Hi All,

I've recently moved here from Australia. I'm going to be in the USA for a few years so I plan to build my AR style firearm.

Having lived in Australia, the CA firearm laws are a bit more relaxed. However I see you guys also have politicians bent on an anti-firearm agenda. So my advice to you guys it to standup for your rights where ever you can. Otherwise one day you might wake up to find out you don't have them anymore. If anyone cares you read about the sorry tale of firearm laws in Australia here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Australia).

So what I am wondering is, are there any workshops/evening/weekend classes where I can work on a 80% lower and assemble it into a AR of some description?

I'd prefer to assemble one myself since there is no chance I'll ever get to do that in Australia. Plus I think it would be pretty fun.

Regards, Paul

Welcome Paul.

Just like pTa stated, just look around in the forums. Every few months there are build parties for 80% lowers.

Welcome to California and the Calguns family.

Hi Paul, welcome to CA and Calguns. Here are a couple of assembly guides in case you haven't already seen them.

http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/

Safety tip - the disconnector spring is wider on one end. The wider end must go down into the trigger assembly or otherwise the disconnector may malfunction.

Welcome Paul

A few days back I was in picking up a Benelli pistol at Irvington Arms..
During the process I overheard a few guys discussing CA gun laws, AR builds, and the ballistic virtues of the ACC's 300 Blackout...
One of the gentlemen had a an Australian accent, could the have been you?

Nope, this wasn't me. I have not checked out a local gun store yet.
This weekend though, I plan to go shopping.

I think a few colleagues want to join me.

Is Irvington Arms a store you can recommend?

I bought my first handgun and did the HSC test there. It was fine.

I've also been told bizarro info there that just isn't true about Saiga rifles.

You in Fremont too?
