I keep hearing conflicting reports about what SB249 says. Some folks are telling me that the current form allows the bullet button... some are still of the opinion that it doesn't.

So... where can I find out for sure? Where can I get the ocular proof?

And the link to the bill page - with links to votes and analyses and different versions of the bill - is in the first post of the main 249 thread, http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=576813

Good luck figuring out what the bill means.

You can also read the analysis of the bill - which is almost just as important as the bill itself.

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/11-12/bill/sen/sb_0201-0250/sb_249_cfa_20120702_100005_asm_comm.html

I keep seeing new threads that the sky is falling, and don't know whether to laugh, cry, or make a tinfoil hat.

The bill has not changed since June - and so far only seeks to prohibit "conversion kits" and specifically names the mag magnet.

Why is legislative history and analysis important? - because any legislation will be misinterpreted at some point, and both the history and analysis are used in court when a law is challenged to show the intent of the law when it was drafted and passed.

I totally support the Stop SB249 stuff - but the new posts about the sky falling and the government banning all rifles is just (currently) total BS.

Actually, it [as currently exists] does not name "Mag Magnets".

You might wish to reconsider your option of the bill. We believe that Sen. Yee may be making things a bit more express soon.

Right, the text of the bill does not - but the history does. That's why it's important to read the bill, history, and analysis when interpreting legislation.

Sen. Yee seems to agree with you that more express language should be used to ban currently-legal common semi-automatic firearms. However, as you'll note in the ACOPS analysis,

According to information provided by the author,
"The problem this bill seeks to remedy concerns 'conversion
kits,' [plural] which, in combination with a magazine locking device,
is a tool that transforms some fixed magazine firearms into
assault weapons. One such conversion kit is a tool called a
'Mag Magnet.' Emphasis added.

Legislature is on vacation until Aug 6. Won't see anything until next week (probably).

While the bill may not CURRENTLY seem to be going after BBs, etc., I take posts like THIS from people like THIS to heart.

This is not just an attempt to make the ALREADY illegal mag magnet EVEN MORE ILLEGAL. Do NOT let your guard down. This is how the PRK gets its anti-Consttutional business done.

I just got a scary email from the NRA. I'll post it when I get in front of a real computer. iPhones don't cut and paste well.
