How can this be, I thought the Police are there to protect us every minute?

This article alone says it all, we as the people, law abiding citizens should help the Police. They are not able to control violent crime commited by criminals all the time. It is therefor our duty as citizens too make America a more safe and peaceful society. In order to do that, you have to meet force with force. I'm not advocating vigalante style justice; I'm telling it like it is, American's (law abiding, non-criminal), should be allowed to be armed legally with no restrictions placed upon us. This will bring down the violence. It has work in Texas and Florida.

June 04, 2007 WASHINGTON — The nation's murder rate rose slightly last year but the number of robberies skyrocketed by 6 percent, preliminary FBI data released Monday show.
The statistics were part of an overall 1.3 percent rise in violent crime across the country in 2006 -- the second straight annual increase.
However, car thefts, arsons and other property crimes dipped for the second straight year, the data show.
The modest increase in murders reflected a mixed bag for cities. The number of homicides in major metropolitan areas -- those with at least 1 million residents -- climbed by 6.7 percent. Smaller cities, meanwhile, saw their murders decrease by a collective 11.9 percent.
The spike in robberies marked the highest increase in any category of crime surveyed in the FBI report, which was compiled with data from more than 11,700 law enforcement agencies nationwide.
Violent crime rose in every region of the country except for the Northeast, the FBI reported. Western states saw the largest jump in violent crime, by 2.8 percent, the data show.
The new numbers come amid a Justice Department push to tamp down violent crime with millions of new dollars in funds to local police and a surge of federal agents to troubled cities. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales -- who took office as violent crime started to rise -- has called the crackdown one of his top priorities for the remaining 18 months of his tenure at the Justice Department.
In a spot of good news, violent crime grew at a slower pace than initially expected. In December, the FBI projected a 3.7 percent increase for the first six months of 2006. The year before, in 2005, violent crime rose by 2.3 percent.
Property crimes decreased overall by 2.9 percent from 2005, the FBI reported. Burglaries, however, rose slightly -- particularly in mid-sized cities, where the rate grew by 3.3 percent

how can we expect the police to be everywhere when there are not donut shops everywhere?

Heard the same thing on NPR this morning.

My worry about this is that the anti's will try and pin this on the sunset of the Federal AW ban. AW Ban ends in 2004, crime increases in 2005 and 2006. Someone will try and take the logical leap nevermind that rifles are rarely used in crimes.

Preliminary FBI data released today here (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/06prelim/index.html).

Not all that interesting; final data may be better.

Hmmmm..... large metro areas experiencing a 6+% increase in murders while smaller areas expereinced a nearly 12% decrease? I see the heavy-handed gun-control laws in the big cities are definitely helping to reduce crime. Stupid little hick towns "allowing" people carry arms on their person.

one news report says during 90s when crime declined, was due to klinton adding $$$ to get more cops.

although one researcher says crime droppping during late 80s and 90s is due to abortion becoming legal in the 70s. and those "class" of people who would be committing the crime are well... aborted.

You mean the drug-running gangs that are WALKING over the border from Mexico might have something to do with this!?:eek:

That couldn't be the true! One look at TJ or Mexico City would disprove that theory!

The violent crime rate rises and falls with the proportion of young men in the population. It's almost as simple as that.

Crime declined dramatically during the last thirty years as the baby boomers grew into mature adults. Now the boomers' kids are starting a new crime wave of their own.

And so it goes.

Gang problems are our problems. Because they use firearms during their gang wars it makes all firearms look bad.

That's what liberal people think, all firearms are bad and should be destroyed, love and peace crap. There are a plethora of people that have never even held, let alone fired a gun at a target. What they see in the media convinces them that all guns should be eradicated.

What am I trying to say here, we need to convince people it's not a firearm problem it's a people problem.

The people problem, e.g., gang members, illegal gang members (MS13), these are the concerns because they affect all of us. It will affect out 2nd Amendment rights.

Here what’s going on now, LA wants more money to prevent gang violence, including tattoo removal. Here’s one, deport the gang members!

Very good post and I really like your out of the box thinking on the tattoo removal strategy.

This country is under assault and our political overlords want to disarm us! I recommend folks read up on MS 13. They are organized and completely ruthless.

Nice article. I like one of his phrases... "We are not arguing that such a relationship is good or bad, merely that it appears to exist."

My question is if you are pro-gun, pro-gambling, pro-choice, no taxes, anti-welfare, anti-national-health-care... who do you vote for?
