To the top...

Like an HK 91 but not black and "evil" looking.

Thanks for looking,

is it really like an hk 91? as in gas system, bolt, etc?

Here is some good info...

quoted from: http://www.remtek.com/arms/hk/civ/sl/sl.htm
From the end of its steel buttplate to the tip of its hooded front sight, the HK SL6/7 carbine is more than slightly reminiscent of the famous World War 11 German semiautomatic G43 rifle. But the similarity is only superficial. The G43 was gas-operated with a gas cylinder above the barrel in the same manner as the Russian Tokarev M38/40 rifles and locking was by means of hinged flaps set in recesses on each side of the receiver in imitation of the Soviet Degtyarev light machine gun.

The HK SL6/7 carbines are different. They use the delayed-blowback, roller-locking system of operation - a hallmark feature of Heckler & Koch's entire line of small arms. HK bolt mechanisms consist of two major components: a bolt head and bolt carrier. Although referred to as "locking-roller," the action is never completely locked. In the battery position, inclined surfaces on the bolt carrier lie between the two rollers on the bolt head and force these rollers into recesses in the barrel extension. After ignition, the rollers are cammed inward against the bolt caffier's inclined planes by rearward pressure on the bolt head. The bolt carrier's rearward velocity is four times that of the bolt head. After the bolt carrier has moved rearward four millimeters, the rollers on the bolt head (which has moved only one millimeter) are completely depressed, pressure has dropped to the required levels of safety, and the two parts continue their backward movement together...

This a very unique rifle, I don't know about interchangeability of parts with the HK91 but there are probably a few, I think most of the parts are tweaked a little so it is a true sporting arm.

Here is a comparison picture of the SL7 and 91 locking piece...

http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/1214/sl791lockao1.jpg
(SL7 on the left, 91 on the right)

But the action is the exact same as a 91: bolt, lock and trigger group...

You want to hear something sad... I have not shot it since I bought it earlier this year. I am regrettably selling this rifle because the funds are needed for other things, and since I have not shot it yet I don't feel that attachment like I have for my Garand's and M14's.

The barrel is brand new looking and I bet you a dollar that it is sub-MOA, like most rifles, it will shoot better than me.

Wow! I just searched Gunbroker and found a SL 7 auction that ended recently - It sold for $2300 and had less magazines.

Just an FYI...

what kind of groups do you get out of it?

It is possible to achieve Sub MOA with the the right loads, bench rest, shooting conditions etc.

I currently own both the SL6 (.223) and SL7 (.308) and they are an absolute dream to shoot.

The rifles have that special Polygonal rifling you will find on SR9T rifles, which is supposed to help with accuracy and barrel life.

These are excellent hunting carbines.

For those considering this rifle, the asking price is worth it!

Especially with the extra 10 round mags (which are a pain to find, and the original HK 05 Scope Mount and rings which is even harder to find).

If you read the ad carefully, it is a $1450 rifle + 3 mags... But take into account the extra magazines that he's including. HK magazines ain't cheap especially on hard to find ones.

I'd suggest you to contact the seller via PM for these type of comments. I think he's willing to part it out if you can't plunk down the price for the total package.

Yup, as I stated above...

I am willing to break up the package into smaller lots... If you just want the rifle + 3 round mag. + sling = $1450 and no ten round mags. or the scope mount that works with me.

That is a lot less than $2k, these rifles were imported in small numbers and are rare. There was a scope mount that sold on Gunbroker recently for $380 (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=72296323)

Huh? It most certainly is a collector's rifle and the inherent accuracy would shock you. And they weren't a very common find to begin with, and they don't pop up for sale all too often. They are much more sought after than the 770 series rifles. I have watched the value of these go up and up in 5 short years. The only reason I haven't bought this one is that I just laid down cash for a nice Tula SVT-40, a Sommer and Ockenfuss Marksman in .308, an Arsenal Inc. SAS-7, and a Walther P88 in the past 2 weeks. If toolman9000 had a way to accept credit cards, I would have bought it by now, otherwise I need to wait about another week.

Wow you need to get a clue and do some research before you crap on someone's thread...........There's one on gunbroker right now for $2700 maybe a little better shape, but no where near as much accessories. As stated the scope mount alone is another $300-$400, and the mags are not cheap either.

I would have bought this except I already have a couple of each of the HK rifles.

Considering that this is collectible, comes with 9 mags, a scope mount, is capable of sub-1" groups and is probably a lot better made than the cast M1A's, I'd say it's a pretty good deal. I'd buy it if I had a couple grand lying around, but as it is I'm just a poor student.

Thanks for the free bumps!

I have been thinking hard about other partial trades I would consider:
1. Marlin Camp 45
2. Beretta 12ga. Over/Under
3. German Luger

Thanks again for looking!!!

I am just not that into newer guns right now, I am digging older revolvers, I do need a S&W 642 which is new. If you have any old colt semi-automatics that would be neat.

You know what blows me away. These were maybe 600 new back in 86. And what stings me the most. I bought an KH91 new in the box for $500 at a gun show in 1986. Shot it like three times and ended up selling it a year or two later to paint my 69 mustang. I was 17. I cry now all the time when i think of that stupid maneuver. But who knew there would be a ban in 94?

Nice rifle. I'm sure some one will buy it. It would be a great addition to a German collection.

10 rounders were the highest capacity ever made, that is one reason I like this rifle - you don't have that crappy feeling in the back of your head since you can't get larger free state magazines. You know, like you are always missing something.

That is why I like my Para Warthog, ten is the max from the factory nothing held back from us.
