View Full Version : What, if anything, would you buy BEFORE moving to PRK

I may have to move to CA sometime in the near future for work. I currently live in a free state and can buy anything that I'd like. I'm wondering if there is anything that I might want to buy before moving that would be difficult or impossible to acquire but that can be LEGALLY possessed if I become an inmate of CA. For example, I've considered buying a 1911 (never owned one). Would it make sense to get one here if they are not on the CA "safe handgun" list, or are they easy enough to acquire once in CA? So, in a nutshell, what do you guys wish that you owned, but can't currently buy because of the draconian and illegal CA restrictions? Keep in mind that if there is no legal way to own it in CA, it does me no good, so RR listed weapons for example are moot.

Or maybe anything that can be legally owned, can also be legally acquired once there. If that's the case, I'd like to know that too.

thanks for the help,
v

Any handgun that you like but is not on the handgun roster.

There are many 1911s on the roster, and many more off it. If you don't care which one, no big deal. Me personally, I want a colt 01980rg but it's a pain to get. Look for threads on Single Shot Exemption for more info on that.

As far as rifles, I think your screwed walking over the boarder... Doesn't matter if you have one before or after...it's gotta be Ca legal.

Buy every non-roster pistol you can possibly afford. Think of it as a long term investment ;)

If you are speculating this would be the way to go.

Ruger SR1911 & LCP aren't on the roster. You might also consider older Colt's & S&W's if you are into wheel guns.

I already have an LCP :) Would I have to worry about any of that "single shot exemption" nonsense when I bring them in? Convert to SS, then register and convert back to normal, or can I just bring them & register if not explicitly banned (looks like you have 60 days to register)?

I have both sold and purchased pistols at our local gun shows (primarily Cross Roads of the West). I can honestly tell you that there is a HUGE PREMIUM on COLT firearms. Specifically, 1911 type and classic double action Snake pistols. Also a tremendus demand on Nickel 38 Supers

Here a quick list of what I would purchase.

Pre-70 series 1911 (Blued or Nickel) (in .45 or 38 Super)
70 Series (Blued or Nickel) (in .45 or 38 Super)
80 Series (Blued Stainless or Nickel) (in .45 or 38 Super)

Any type of

Python
Diamondback
King Cobra
Anaconda

Nah, SSE is only to purchase. PPT, or bringing them in you are gtg.... Im fairly confident.

I would try to get my hands on:
Ruger SR1911
Ruger Charger Pistol
Ruger LCP

S&W Shield

either Sig 1911 or 226 scorpion

possibly a python if available.

Ruger SR1911 is hard to acquire even in free states. Much want! And I am not alone.

Pinned barrel S&W revolvers are not rostered a get a pretty good premium.

For some reason 9mm 1911s are really popular on Calguns.

And pretty much everywhere else where people have open minds and like shooting. ;)
