OK, I'm bringing a big wad o' tri-tip and a cooler of club sodas (perhaps w/ a few other types drinks interspersed).

If Parag will be in town I think I can coax a platter of samosas out of him.

I'll roust my buddy Phil into bringing something tasty and/or useful.

I can bring a grill, cooler and ice.

Anybody who hasn't been to a Shoot-n-Q, these are always fun. I never miss one. :D

Might have a friend visiting from Texas. I'll drag him along, if he's here that weekend. Bug him for stories, he's got good ones.

If I can convince my wife to come along, I'll bring something vegitarian...

i should be there. It's okay just to hang out and shoot the breeze right. I might be in for cosco hot links or some other kind of hotdog type thing.

does anyone have a sig worked on by grays guns that i could try out. I was looking to get their carry package with short reset done to my 228. I would just like to try it out to see how their work feels.

My dad (Buzz), and I (Just put both of us down for it) will be bringing a 32 can box of 7-up and a 10-15 pack of sausages.

Are we going to get nametags made out for CG members again?

Buzz
06-03-2007, 7:17 AM
1. Our sausage/dogs will be from Costco; no definite type in mind yet. Will bring whatever seems interesting.

2. Also looking forward to some experts' diagnosis of my handgun sights (or the shooter). My new SA 1911A1 Mil-Spec seems to shoot 6 inch too high, and a new SIG P220 SAO 3 inch to the left, all at 15 yds. (anybody got a SIG "sight pusher"?)

I'll bring the AR too - Bill said there were several folks interested in trying out the CMMG uppers.

Any factory ammo is good, the Red Dots are Zeroed for Federal American Eagle. The uppers I have on them are 5.56 Chrome Lined, so shouldn't be to many problems with ammo.

On another note - I still can't find my carbine mags. Someone have an extra that I can borrow for a few hours while I get this thing sighted in? I promise not to be further than arm distance away so as to not break any laws....

Also, it would be nice if anyone familiar with the M1A platform would take a look at my rifle. It's still having some minor issues like FTE.

All I have to trade is my winning personality and some amazing shrimp cocktail.

Let me pose a question.

What can be cooked on smoker within a 1 1/2 to 2 hour window?

Pretty much nothing

Gates open between 9AM and 10AM. Food is served around 11:30-12:00.

To quote the esteemed Professor Evil, the originator of the Chabot Shoot-n-Q, "Nothing good comes off a smoker quick."

We might be able to use it for corn on the cob.

Can it be set up for grilling?

It can but why would we do that unless we are short on grills :D ... Let me know if we need another grill and I'll bring it.

Only if you use it to reheat the meats you smoked the day before! :D

Yes this might be the best Idea. :o If the gates opened earlier like the night before :D I might have some meat ready. If I have any left overs we can reheat whatever I decide to make Friday.

We are definitely good on beverages at this point.

It might be a good idea for those bringing hotdogs/sausages to bring enough buns for what meat they bring. That way we avoid the usual overabundance of bread products.

Don't feel bad. Just bring guns next time, and we'll see you on Saturday.

Years ago I went to the SF Symphony about 4 days early for a concert due to scribbling down the wrong date. Ended up in downtown SF on a later Sunday evening with a lotta stuff closed and some VERY aggressive homeless about (with jail/hospital release bands still on wrists).

Don't go to a Market St. fast food restaurant (gawd knows why I did that) on a late Sunday evening without appropriate backup :)

Hahah, I think I can fit one more.

I always watch out for the cyclists. They always hug the right, so I ride close to the left, and don't go 10/10 so I've got plenty left dodge them or the boulders that sometimes fall into the road.

Err... you sure you want a ride? :43: J/k. I'm taking the Bronco up, and I don't drive like that with guns in the car anyway.

am also bringing the wife along for her first shooting experience

Joekilla and Parag are men of the hour for bringing awesome ethnic appetizers to sate everyone before we could get some real meat off the grill. A lot of people think that Parag put heroine into the Samosas.

I also had the (dubious) honor of shooting bench next to Bill and just shoot the general BS with the crew. I finally was able to literally blast the entire center of my pistol target today as well as getting my AR to finally work right. The modified shrimp cocktail scared the hell out of me but I obviously did not go home in an ambulance. Thanks to Sage's friend I can really shoot an AR-15 correctly. I'm pretty sure Joekilla took an incriminating photo of me holding the evil Blackstar Rifle as well as my efforts to exceed 137.8 pounds. Black rifles just dominated the entire range.

Funny story. My dad left his backpack at the range, he just started driving back in hopes of being able to get it back. And just in case any of the Chabot crew is reading, if you see a Blue Jansport backpack (3 big pockets, one smaller pocket) to just watch out for it, its still at large (apparently forgotten at the rifle range?)

I found your back pack and turned it in to the range office. It is there for you to pick up.

I had a great time! There was awsome food good friends and I got to do something B Wiese could not! That is hit the center of his target!:D

The 1919 was a great smile maker. I did not see one disapointed face after they got finished shooting it. I went home with 3 empty cans of linked ammo. Some guys were walking by with their kids and I made them shoot it, the youngest kid, about 9 or so, almost cried with joy! That is what makes these things so much fun.

I felt like the baton in a relay race for a while but finally got to shoot some pistols. Leelaw got a hold of my CZ-97 and showed me what a target is supposed to look like. I hate the bastard!:p

salmon carpaccio, anyone?:D

Had a great time. The older gentleman on 42 was shooting his black powder rifle & with every blast, I was covered with smoke & concussion. GOD! I felt alive!

It was nice to finally meet a lot of you. Xeno, I love your rifle. Wanna work out a trade? food for guns?:p

NoTimetoShoot manning the grill. Fantastic!

I'll see if I can actually bring a wok & cook some noodles next time.

Thanks also to M. Sage for the ammo trade (I promise, I will trade you the ammo!)

I know ya will. I know where you live, remember? :43: Lol

It was a great day, thanks to everybody who brought the food to cook, it was great! It was really good seeing people again, and seeing some new faces for the first time. And having people walk up and ask "is this like a club thing?" and giving them the Calgun URL.

My friend Mike from Texas had a great time, even if the black rifles did look a bit funny to him. I just had to explain that they've mutated from being exposed to stupid rays emanating from Sacramento.

Big thanks to Ted for getting us organized and to the Chabot staff for putting up with us.

Too bad my wife couldn't make this one. I'll definitely drag her along to the next one.

See you all next shoot. Maybe at Panoche?

I know there were two more of us there looking forward to the next Panoche shoot. (Hint: I'm one of 'em.) Hopefully I'll be able to partake in some ammunition-wasting, disgusting and senseless bump-fire at that time.

Here are some pics I took while we were getting the feast started.

Glad to meet you guys. I did more chatting and eating than shooting.
It was a blast even after the fact the I left my M1A mags at home.

I wanted to get a group picture but I had to leave to do some family time.
Will definitely try to get that picture at the next shoot.

Again, glad to meet all of you guys.

PM me if anyone want the full size image of these.

Thanks for teh grill props, yo. Thanks for fingering the tubular meat, M. Sage!

I'm glad the beowulf runs well now, except for the ammo expense. :laughing

I know who printed out the tags, but I've had a few and don't remember. :p

Ted, thanks for hanging out to button every thing up.

Bill, you are allowed to be two hours late, not 3.5. :p

Nice meeting/seeing everyone. Good times.

and I got to do something B Wiese could not! That is hit the center of his target!:D

Hah, you're lucky I had new upper and scope that needed elevation cranked way way down.

Actually I made a few adjustments that threw me further off because I assumed I was indeed hitting target center area. At least I was shooting crap ammo and not the GMM yet :)

Thanks to the cooks - ivanimal for aracheras, and NoTime2Shoot Jake for cooking my tri-tip to perfection.

We should have Calguns shoots more often so I can get more Jake-cooked tri-tip :) I'm not a cook, and I can't get food like that in a damned restaurant.

Well I'm thinking Labor Day.

Chabot allows .50 BMG on Mondays...

...and of course there HAS to be a 5th Annual Day-After-Turkey-Day Shoot-n-Q At Chabot.

I'll be in Reno.

There's a RIB-FEST going on.

Hmmm........

Field trip?

Confirming a blue bag is in the office lost-and-found box. You can pick it up during regular range hours Fri. - Mon.

And on behalf of the range staff, thank's for all the yummy food! :p

I'd like to thank whoever it was that jump started my car (was it John?).

I wont leave the damn headlights on again, and I'll replace the damaged cables in the trunk. :D

Glad everyone enjoyed the samosas! They are addictive, aren't they? I find that even folks who've never tried Indian food before fall for samosas if they like spicy food of any sort.

By the way, the place that makes 'em is Rajjot Sweets & Snacks on Wolfe at El Camino in Sunnyvale. They're a bit awkward to get to - the parking lot is shared with a 7-11 and a Persian restaurant.

It's a low-cost no-ambiance place that looks worse than it is. :) They happen to supply samosas and other snacks to various Indian grocery stores in the area, which is how I found 'em.

Nice meeting some Calguns folks again, and some new folks as well. Enjoyed talking to Matt's Mom, who was sitting behind the BBQ area. Hope I didn't make her *more* anxious!

Well I'm thinking Labor Day.

Chabot allows .50 BMG on Mondays...

...and of course there HAS to be a 5th Annual Day-After-Turkey-Day Shoot-n-Q At Chabot.

Um, unfortunately Chabot can't accomodate .50 BMG's on holiday Monday afternoons (after 1:00PM), IF it's really crowded. Normally on Monday afternoons, the 100 yd. line empties out after 1:00PM and the .50's can have a couple of empty benches as a buffer between them an the rest of the shooters.

If it completely fills up on Labor Day afternoon,(like it was on Saturday), then the .50's will have to be a no go, so bring other stuff to shoot, too.

In the past, on packed holiday Mondays, the .50's muzzle blast have driven off numerous shooters from adjoining shooting benches. More than a few of them stopped at the range office and gave us a piece of their mind before leaving, more than a bit p.o.'d.

We just want everyone to have a good time... :o

If it turns out to be one of those weird holiday Mondays where no one shows up in the PM, then the .50 BMG is a possibility. However, if the hordes later all show up, then you'll have to shoot your other guns....

Hello Everyone,

Big Thanks to Ted for organising the event. Thanks to everyone who brought such scrumptious food, although I didn't get a chance to try any of it this time around (sadly, I missed Ivan's aracheras :( ).

Thanks to Ratters, Susan, Leelaw and Ivan for sharing their guns with the ladies I brought along. Therese had never picked up a gun until that day, she left with a big smile plastered on her face and lots of good experiences and memories. Special Thanks to the lady and her husband in the shooting station next to us, you both allayed a lot of Therese's fears about picking up and handling a gun, we are grateful for your kind words of encouragement and practical advice/instruction (we have a new convert! she now wants a gun of her own).

I plan on bringing more ladies to future events, I've been on a bit of a mission since my return from countries that have draconian gun laws and am grateful to even have the opportunity to educate and dispel a lot of erroneous beliefs and fears about guns and their proper use (here in the USA and abroad).

Thanks Again!

Had a good time with y'all. Thanks.

But did have a few hangups with my new Stag lefty AR. Often didn't eject casing, and never placed a fresh round into the chamber. Any suggestions?

Here's a suggestion about the name tags: Apply a couple wide pieces of masking tape to your back, with your screen name, real first name, and city of residence. Being that that is the side that most of us see when you are on the line. What do you think?

Take care, and look forward to the next shoot.
