Below is a quote from a PM I received from a member here at Calguns a couple days ago.

Hawk, last year you sponsored me for a life membership in the NRA for 300 dollars. I want to thank you again, and give you an idea of what you have been responsible for. I have since upgraded to Benefactor member, and on various forums, my gun club, I have sponsored 325 new life members so far this year, about 115 of them were here at calguns. I would like to say thanks again, and as I promised when you sponsored me last year, I have done my best to pass this on.

I was blown away when I received this and thought I'd pass on his comments (with permission) to all of you for motivation.

Just think, one thing leads to another...;)

Not sure what you're asking, PPL?

Certain times of the year NRA allows a life member (and higher I think) to sponsor another for life membership. They reduce the rate to $300, but also do not ship any of the freebies like jackets etc...

No, each person pays his own membership fee. Not the guy sponsoring. :D

The "sponsor" is only there as a vehicle to allow the member access to the $300 price.

no, I am pretty sure he just got them reduced rate $300 life memberships. You need a current life member to "sponsor" them - which really means "vouch for". He most likely did not spend any of his own money. However, NRA netted quite a bit of money they most likely would not have received. $300 is a lot easier to swallow than $1000, so more people would have taken the deal. I'm sure they had a few people who may have paid the $1000 but found out about the $300 deal and took the cheap way out. However, I think the NRA still came out ahead... by a lot.

What's not confusing, is that $97,500 went to the NRA.

Thanks Hawk and thanks to the Calgunner who also made it happen!

Now, we need to make that happen for CGF. :D

Awesome & great job!

It's important to join & I hate that some people say that NRA didn't do much for CA (may be just their excuse not wanting to pay the membership I guess).

Or, there are the ones who feel that getting a few pieces of "junk mail" somehow begs the reason to not fully support the RKBA.
It's truly Bizarre.

It goes without saying, NRA is the big dog that has fought for the 2A for the last 141 years.
If not for NRA, we would have lost the RKBA a long, long time ago. Just that rationalization alone, is reason to join and become NRA.

I hear people complain about this... and then I think about all the people who complain about gun owners and I just smile as I sort through it knowing I'm pissing them off.

I am an NRA Life Member because of this program. And I would not have done so at the full price.

I'm not sure if this is the person the OP helped out. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=556869

Good job to the OP.
