According to Springfield's website it says it's designed around the the same specifications as the Professional and offers nearly the same performance and features. So, what are the differences in the two?

Here is what was posted in the thread i made about the Pro.

The TRP is a factory pistol which has been upgraded with a few features to make it look like the full custom Professional model (FBI SWAT pistol).
The Professional pistol is a full custom pistol which begins with a national match frame which has the oversized slide rails, cut into the frame in our Geneseo machine shop. It uses all custom parts, including the Springfield Custom tool steel hammer & sear, Nowlin barrel & bushing, S&A mag well, Wilson ambi thumb safety, Novak low mount rear sight, dovetail front sight, match skeletonized trigger, standard guide rod system, and 6 specially tuned Metalform 7 round magazines. These pistols are hand assembled by custom gunsmiths in our Geneseo custom shop, under the supervision of master gunsmith David Williams. The Professional models meet or exceed all specifications of the FBI SWAT contract, including the accuracy requirement of 1.5" or better at 25 yards with Remington Golden Saber ammunition. The civilian pistols and the FBI pistols are built at the same time, with the gunsmiths never knowing whether a civilian or FBI agent will be using the pistol. These pistols are built approx. every 45 days, with the FBI order being filled first and civilian orders getting all of the remaining from the production run. These pistols do not have front cocking serrations or full length guide rods because the FBI chose not to have these features on their pistols. (Front cocking serrations catch on clothing and full length guide rods require additional tools for disassembly.) These pistols are finished with the Black T finish done by Walter Birdsong in MS.

The TRP pistol is a factory pistol which has been upgraded with more hand fitting than a standard factory pistol, as well as a 2 piece mag well, night sights, and better tuning internally. It has a quoted accuracy of 2.5" or better at 25 yards with match ammunition. It has the front cocking serrations and full length guide rod, just like the other factory "loaded" models. These pistols are finished with Springfield's Armory Kote finish, which is a painted on, baked on finish similar to the Black T finish.

As stated above:

TRP is a production pistol with some of the same features as the Pro

The Pro is a SA Custom Shop build that has a set of specs agreed to/contracted for by the FBI.

There is a big difference...about $1000-1300 bucks to start. :D

Slightly outdated info above as Nowlin barrels are no longer sourced and Springfield Armory barrels are now used. Additionally, Walter Birdsong has passed and the Black-T coating is now done by his son.

But yes, the TRP is a rough copy of the Pro with front cocking serrations and a FLGR.

Just curious, are nowlin barrels better or worse then the barrels that come with current Professionals? Cheaper or higher quality?

Everything I hear about Nowlin barrels is top rate. However, people that own both variants usually say the SA NM marked barrels on the new Pro's shoot as well as the Nowlin's. Both are oversize gunsmith hard-fit barrels which means the only difference in precision would be from barrel rifling and internal finish. The chambers are probably cut and reamed for each individual pistol anyway regardless of barrel manufacturer.

Theres no reason a company the size of SA couldn't make a barrel as good as a small company like Nowlin; but whether they do or not remains to be seen. I'm not sure if price or availability problems with Nowlin caused the switch.

I'd like to purchase a non-railed Pro with a Nowlin barrel to run my own tests using a Ransom Rest against my railed SA NM Pro.

I own a SA Custom Shop PC9404 with Nowlin barrel. (1996 gun). Very accurate out to 50 yards with Fedral JHP'S and SUPER accurate with Fed 185SWC. My friend has a recent PRO. It is just as accurate with Fed 185SWC ammo but not as accurate with duty type JHP ammo.

Thanks for the info guys. The thread regarding the Nowlin barrel splitting was interesting. Someone posted that they were using SA NM ramped barrels now in the Pro's, but my PC91111LR has an unramped barel, which I prefer.

Thanks for the comparison between the pistols ap3572001; all of my experience with my Pro has been with 230gr fmj and I've been super impressed with the Pro's accuracy with that ammo.

Keep in mind that traditional, custom tunned ACCURATE 1911's like ones by Bob Chow, Clarks etc.were tested for pure accuracy with 185 and 200 SWC target /match ammo. With service ammo, many custom/ production 1911's shoot no better than top notch service pistols from firms like Sig or HK. I once owned a well worn full size USP 45. It shot better at 25 yards than most 1911 that I owned. And it did it with Fed HST 230+P ammunition....

I'm getting a TRP Saturday, and want to pick up a Pro by the end of the year. How much will a non-rail Pro cost me if I find one in the marketplace? I don't really want to spend more than $3000.

Yes. PC9111 is the non-railed Pro

the one with the rail is the PC9111LR (Light Rail)

I asked which one out of the two was the non-rail one. What does that have to do without being able to afford one?
