I have a remington 870 12 ga with 18.5" barrel, i want to buy a longer barrel to shoot trap. I was thinking 28" should work, is that right? and where is the best place to buy, i am in so. cal? Thanks

24" + I think 26 to 30" is best but I just got my first 28" the other day. So I'm no expert. But know some ranges only allow 24" + and 26/28/30 seem to be popular.

Try to feta ribbed barrel due to mirage. Mine doesn't have a need installed and I actually prefer it. But to each his own.

As noted above, 26 / 28 / 30 are likely you best choices in trap. Longer is thought to be better and I've seen 870 Trap models with tubes out to 32 inches.... too long for me. It comes down to fit and preference more than anything.

I run a 28 inch standard contour, vent rib barrel on my 1100, and have had similar on a couple of 870s over the years. They score well for me. Sometimes I shoot a 24 inch on my Mossberg 500 and some of the old birds with the super fancy guns look at me like I am dumb, but I get on them fast and break them hard with it.

Like all above. I use a 26" vent rib on my 870 for trap and skeet. I find the 26" on a pump or auto most mimics my O/U's with 30" bbl's. My Beretta auto has a 30" bbl. That's one long gun but it shoots them all under the table in trap.

+1 and then some for the 26"+ I would also look for one with the rem choke threaded barrel so you can change the chokes for skeet etc.

Yes, indeed. I got mine from AI&P with tall 3 rem-chokes. I believe he stocks them. Then added the Carlson skeet extended choke.
