Just got back from Utah and Idaho to visit family. My cousin told me about an interdynamic kg-9 that might be available to him. If you are reading this then you may know that this an open bolt pistol with a barrel shroud and a magazine outside the pistol grip which I did not see listed on the flow chart. I'm wondering two things. One: can I get this gun into California from my out of state direct relative should they decide to sell it to me if they buy it and don't Ike it themselves. two: what is the value of this gun in and out of Cali?

Am i staying out of this? Options? I know this is a pretty rare gun so thanks!

Update
Anyone know now to date these? The ones I have seen online have 5 digit serials and this appears to have 4 if indeed this is the serial. What I saw on the magwell was:

Interdynamic
Miami Fl
9mm Luger
Mod KG-9
Maruzen
70xx

I don't recall if there were other numbers elsewhere.

Open bolt would be pre-1982, it seems.

But to get it here you would need to butcher it by adding a magazine locking device - detachable mag outside the pistol grip or detachable mag anywhere plus barrel shroud = California 'assault weapon'; import is a felony - and block any mags to 10 rounds. All mods must be applied before the gun crosses the border into CA.

Some North Carolina seller wants $1000 (http://www.armslist.com/posts/235419/fayetteville-north-carolina-handguns-for-sale--interdynamic-kg-9-semi-automatic-9mm-pistol) for his. I doubt it would hold its value if modified for California.

It appears to me that this is an off-list gun. You would need to have a maglock installed before it is sent to a CA FFL who can then transfer it to you. It will also need to be single-shot-exempted as it is not on the roster of guns approved for sale.

Since it would be an interstate transfer you will need to use a FFL and it can't be a PPT transaction.

You can not import 10+ round magazines.

Per ATF Ruling 82-2 (http://www.atf.gov/regulations-rulings/rulings/atf-rulings/atf-ruling-82-2.pdf), the Interdynamics KG-9 is a MG.
Those made before 01-19-1982 are "grandfathered in" as Title 1 pistol.
Those made after 01-18-1982 are Title 2 MG.

Do you know when the KG-9, you are looking at was made?

There is a 2008 thread by PRKArms where they had one for sale, http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=141226, NIB for $5000.

I have no idea how they sold it, or if they did, but it might be worthwhile to ask them.

Might have a problem with Roster; might be legitimately a Curio/Relic by designation (not 50 years old yet).

All open bolt guns are not banned, but most if them are machine guns. Finding an open bolt gun that isn't a machine gun is hard to do.

If it is one of the 2500 or so pre-1982 guns then it's just a pistol. You can use the method I posted above in that case. Try not to damage the frame when installing a bullet button as there are not many of these.

If its post-1982 then it's a MG and we don't get to play with MGs here in CA so then my previous post wouldn't apply.

Nope. I have an open bolt .22 rifle. Some open bolt guns snuck in before the ban,
