This was my first training hike for the upcoming D14 deer season. While I was at it I did little cottontail rabbit hunting, with 4 cottontail rabbits seen I ended up with 3 shot at and 1 in the bag. My pack weighed in at 40 lbs.
After a late start about 1:00 in the afternoon my prospect of limiting out on cottontail rabbits was weak at best and that’s how it turned out, but I didn’t get skunked.

It was drizzling on and off, so I used the sealed camera housing and that caused a weak audio capture. The desert started heating up at about 3:30 when the overcast sky started to burn away, the sky was clear by 4:30. Being able to hunt in July and in the desert is unusual in itself, I was very thankful for that.

To make it easy and fast to view I’ve posted the captured screen shot of the rabbits on both videos.

The first video is of the missed shot, if you don’t want to see my rabbit hunting technique (keep my eyes and head moving) skip to the 5:30 minute mark of the video, the missed shot is taken at about the 4:39 minute mark.

On this day you can see the rabbit running from my left to right. As the rabbit is running you can see how I anticipate where it will present itself for a shot. I move to the lane and wait; when the rabbit arrives I take the shot. As with the missed shot video if you don’t care to with my boring technique skip to the 4:00 minute mark of the video, the shot is taken at about the 4:10 mark. The rabbit ended up being shot clean with not shots entering the stomach or intestines.

I have the GoPro Helmet Hero TSC. I'm going to upgrade to the GoPro 2, with it I'll be able to capture videos at night.

Just checked out the GoPro website. I think I'm going to buy one and capture my hunt for this season's deer hunt
