View Full Version : MY HOLSTER, UGLY MUTT OR WORK OF ART?

My new Guncrafter No 2 didn't want to wait 12 weeks for his new Custom Ted Blocker shoulder holster. So with $45.00 + $10.00 shipping, and no sales tax I might add bought a reproduction 1911 U.S. Holster from USWINGS.Com. The No 2 has a full rail and only a few options when it comes to holsters.
After reading online about how to make your own holster, I dove right in.
This is how it went.
Started with this:
Next make rail guard and attach to gun:
Oil and wrap in Cellophane.
Soak holster in hot water and dish soap for about an hour.
Insert into holster and mold to shape.
Dry for 3 hours. Hang to test:
Add Black shoe polish and Mink oil and buff:
UGLY MUTT OR CUSTOM ART WORK?
IT WORKS PRETTY GOOD! :43:

Looks 50 years older overnight!

Thanks. Only 4.5 hrs. 3 hrs dry time.
The only thing I don't like is the outside safety isn't covered.
What I do like is there was enough room for the full rail to fit.:43:

Does it feel as soft as it looks?

I really like what you did with that holster.
Someone from another forum posted his hand made zombie holster for his 22/45.
I really like this as well. Wish I had the talent.

The vote is in I'll be leaving my semi custom holster as is.
Next I will be customizing the shoulder straps.
Posting pics when ready.

So I've finished the straps to my ugly mutt holster.
Colored them and replaced old fashioned buckles with screws.
It rides real nice.
Next I'm going to try and modify for under the shoulder concealment.
Pics to come.

Got a real good deal on a Blackhawk Serpa holster for a 1911.
The only problem is, it doesn't fit my full rail.
So once again I will adapt.
I'll hit it with a torch to smooth it out and I'm good.
