Thanks to all your posts that help me decide on the RIA 1911 tactical. To return the favor I give you all my range report. I got it out of jail on last Tuesday and went to the range this weekend. I went through 250 rounds.
First off I really like this gun. It shot great through 3 different kinds of ammo and seems very accurate. I mainly shot at 20-25 feet but most of the strays were me trying to figure out my grip. I know its the shooter that needs accuracy work, not the gun. Below is one of my targets.
I did have a problem with a couple of the cheap MetalForm mags (from CDNN) but I marked those so I don't rely on them for HD. The stock mags and the Kimbers functioned fine.
Also below is a image I took after I cleaned it up for its photoshoot. Thanks again for your advice, feedback, etc. I love this gun. I know there are nicer 1911s out there but for the money I am very happy and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Very nice! Thanks for including target photos. I can't stand "range reports" that only talk about feelings without proof. :D

I'm happy with mine so far (my first 1911 pistol). Very accurate.

Where did you find your Tactical, and how much did you pay?

I like the full rail look on that RIA. Have you shot other 1911's and if so, how much recoil does the rail seem to absorb?

I looked for the full rail version but could not find it in 45 so went for just the regular tactical version but its a great shooter. Thanks for the range report good shooting
Nice! I was thinking about getting that 2011 RIA , with the full rail, and great minds think alike as I have the same grips on my 1911 tac
Glad you are enjoying her!

Nice! Now put that on your gate on the side of the house and write "Forget the dog, beware of owner" :)

Thanks guys for your kind comments. I got the gun as a SSE at Direct Action Solutions in San Diego (Solana Beach). Those guys are awesome and have the coolest stuff. Definitely stop in if your ever near the place.
I was worried you guys would dog me on the targets. I am shooting left and down so I got to work on that. Any suggestions?
I can't comment much on how recoil stacks up to other 1911s since it has been a while since I shot any others. This gun is heavier than most I held so I assume its got less recoil and the spring is very strong. I can say that my overall feeling was the recoil is not bad at all. Next trip I will bring my Glock 21 Gen 4 with me and compare the two 45s.
Funny you mention to hang the target and ditch the beware of dog sign. My dad did that at his house and I always get a kick out of it.

I thought you did fine on the targets. If this was a real life situation you probably put enough hits in body to stop whoever you are shooting. You are shooting low the the left because you are anticipating the recoil and you are dipping before the shots go off.
I recommend that you setup your cell phone to record yourself when you shoot. This way it's easy to see what you are doing when you are alone. As for the actual technique, I'm emptying my mind when I shoot. When I think too much I do the same thing you do.
