I just got my summer bonus, time to buy a new rifle.

Im thinking of a Remington 700 SPS tactical in .308

what else though? ive got like 3 rifles in my mind and would like to see/ hear about more. budget is around $1500.

purpose= fun at range, able to hunt with, and accurate out to 1000yards

What do you want to do with it? What do you already have? Do/will you reload? Does the $1500 budget include optics, reloading equipment, bipod, etc?

my collection is thin and im trying to keep it to the "essentials"

i have an AR-15, kimber 1911, glock 22, benelli nova, ruger 10/22, and a browning buckmark.

i plan to start reloading, but thatll be a bit in the future, probably with my winter bonus.

$1500 budget should include rifle and optic, if any. one gun that im thinking about is an M1A, in which case i would not be putting optics on it, and ill get a hunting gun later.

.308 bolt action would make a solid addition then. Unless you need a shorter barrel, I'd go with the SPS varmint, rings and base, then get the best scope you can with the left over money, Vortex PST would probably be in that range. Savage and Tikka rifles are worth a look also.

im struggling between a bolt action and an M1A, i like the semi-auto with a detachable mag of the M1A, but i also like the accuracy of the R700.

i dont have a "battle rifle" or a precision rifle, so either would fit right in.

M1A....they will probably never ban a bolt action rifle. I recently bought a Socom II and its the best rifle out of my arsenal.

I agree too if I had to pick 1 the M1A Socom would be it!

Can't go wrong either way.

That's also a high ranking choice. More range time with the guns I do have...
