View Full Version : Are these acceptable M4 barrel cuts?

I had M4 barrel cuts added to my barrel to match the receiver by a reputable company.

It just doesn't look right to me - I was wondering if there are any experts on barrel cuts out there willing to share their opinion.

I came across this old thread and it had some good examples and mine did not seem to fit anywhere - Link: http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=431434
Bushmaster barrel and CMT keyhole upper receiver.

Worried I might need a new barrel extension

Thanks

in the link you showed, it looks like the top picture on the right.

Yours looks good to go.

Looks great to us. Keep in mind they only need to match in angle, the fact that they might not be "perfect" in the center is not a big deal.

Not to stir the pot but it's funny that a lot of the guys on AR15.com have mixed opinions.

I guess the question is based on the work performed would you use this barrel in a life or death situation

Run it and see how it works.

IF! you have trouble with it, I would just take a small round file (or maybe a dremel tool if you are REALLY good with it) and clean up the receiver a little. If you have no trouble, then run it forever just as is.

OMG, Totally UNSAFE!!!! You NEED to give it to right away so I can dispose of it IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Been cleaning the garage a bit, may be had a few beers....

Just make sure that the cuts in the barrel extension are 'equal' or 'lower' than the feed ramps in the upper, otherwise it may catch the tip of the bullet as it rides up the ramp.

Like the others have said, it should be fine, not exactly quality work, too much material removed, however it shouldn't effect function from the looks of it, should go shoot it and find out.

As long as the cuts in the barrel extension are the same size or larger than the cuts in the upper receiver you will be fine. It's when the cuts in the barrel extension are smaller than the ones in the receiver that you run into problems.
