Are my search skills still failing? What has some of you seen in the way of availability of 18" Mid Length barrels with Extensions? This is for a new build on my Upper. Appearently I'm not seeing to many brands available.

I know white oak makes an spr 18 mid length, but most spr barrels will have rifle length gas systems.

and its in stock!

Out of curiosity, why the mid length gas system? One of the great things about the SPR design IMHO is the rifle length gas system with the 18" barrel. It makes for a very smooth recoil impulse which allows for very fast follow up shots.

Get a rifle length rainier ultra match if they are in stock. It is worth it.

Thanks for all the input, I will definitely look at the barrels mentioned. Why a Mid Length? Just taking advantage of parts I have existing. I have a SPR that I converted to Piston, so I have a Low Pro Block and tube sitting around. A lot of research I've been seeing is, there isn't to much difference in felt anything between a rifle length or Mid Length and dwell time differences hasn't hindered or helped performance. If all I can find in what I want comes in rifle length, then rifle it will be.

gas tubes are like 13 bucks, thats dirt cheap, go rifle length.

White Oak only has .223 chambering Looking for 5.56

BCM, although everything 18" is out of stock, but they restock stuff pretty fast and often.

WOA uses the 223 Wylde chamber which can shoot both 223 and 5.56 safely and a little more accurately. BCM uses some type of match chamber as well on it's 18" barrels, not a 5.56 chamber.

RRA also uses the Wylde in a cryogenically treated barrel.

DPMS MK12 is another option. Cheap, well made, and extremely accurate. A buddy of mine ended up getting the White Oak SPR barrel, I went with the DPMS. side by side at the range there is no discernable difference in accuracy between the DPMS and the WOA, both will shoot easily into .75" at 100 yards, often shooting into much less.

Be sure to include JP, Noveske, Loki, Firebird in your search for an 18" barrel. All of them are excellent.

+1 on the Rainier UltraMatch... mine does sub .5 moa.

From a bagged rest I've made sub 1/2" groups with 52gr all the way to 77gr. Off a bipod best I can manage is about an inch but then I know why that is...

BTW my 16" rainier ultra match makes almost identical velocities to what my 18" white oak did with the same ammunition.
