Got bored one day and decided to find a quick project to work on. Out of a whole garage full of unfinished projects, I spied an old IKEA table top in the back corner. This used to be our computer desk several apartments ago. The wife had to have it. We brought it home, assembled it, stained it, accesorized it, cherished it briefly, and then several months later it was dissasembled and retired to the pile of old IKEA crap furniture in my garage as we upgraded to yet another craptastic piece of IKEA furniture. Welcome to married life....

Fast forward about 6 years, 4 beers, 1 bent jigsaw blade and 4 orbital sanding disks later and you get this:

I added some strips of adhesive backed non-skid to the front of the table to help with front loading bipods. I also stained the surface with some dark walnut stain, mostly because I had it around. Finished it off with several coats of boiled linseed oil just to rehydrate the wood which was begining to dry up and split.

BLM land. That's about as much as I'll give away for location. Don't mean to be a d#*k, but too many people know about that spot already. I normally haul away 2 to 3 industrial size trash bags full of other peoples trash whenever I go out there.

Cool! Definitely needs a cup holder. Maybe an umbrella stand for shelter? :)

Considered it actually. Had a cupholder off of my kids old car seat (also taking up space in my garage) in hand checking to see where it would fit best, but opted to leave it off just to keep it simple.

That's my Cheap Bastard LR308. I ordered parts for it over the course of my last deployment, just waiting for things to go on sale or good deals to pop up. Ended up being about the same cost to build as a mid priced AR-15.

Upper:
-Billet 308 Upper from Surplus Ammo.com $89.00
-308 Bolt Carrier Group (Surplus Ammo) $159.00
-Rainier Arms "Select" 16 inch 308 barrel $259.00
-GRG MFG 308 forend $129.00
-BCM Gunfighter (mod 3) $55.00
-Troy low profile gas block $35.00
-UTG max strength QD rings (med) $29.00
-Sightmark 2.5-10X32 mil dot $229.00
-Carlson Comp muzzle brake $40.00
-port door, fwd asst, etc. $40.00
Total with optics/mount- $1064.00

The lower is off of a previous build and is built up on an 80% lower from Tactical Machining. Trigger is a Rock River Arms 2 stage. Magpul ACS stock and MOE grip for the kool aid factor, along with an LR-20 pmag cut down to hold 10 rounds (and for prone shooting).

Nicely done....I wish I had the talent to make stuff like that...
How steady is it? Does it need another leg?...

And for god sakes...get off your a*s and get on your belly...LOL..just kidding..

It's actually pretty steady with just the 3 legs. Having 3 legs also makes it a lot less likely to wobble like it could with 4 legs (picture that washing machine that slams up and down on spin cycle because one leg is too short).

I actually prefer to shoot from prone when possible, it lets your body absorb recoil a lot better than bench shooting. I like to be able to get back on target quick enough to spot hits/misses. I built this to get a bit more elevation at the muzzle. Someone decided to hang up a few new plates out here that are well beyond 1000 yards. I can't find a good spot in the dirt to get my 6-9" bipod high enough to hit out there with the 308 (Like a mortar) I could get a longer bipod, but I hate shooting from prone with really long legs on a bipod. it's just goofy.....
