I have an ar-15 a ar-10 a ak-47 I even have a Saiga 12 but I now have a new favorite !!! It's my ar-15 7.62x39 !!! I took her out for the first time today and way maddly impressed , right out the box I threw my eotech on and took her to chabot gun club . Two or three clicks later she was dialed in and shooting 1 moa accuracy at 25 yard ! At 50 I put two bullets on top of each other ! And my grouping at 100 yards was impressive . This is now my go to gun for hunting ! A lot more knock down power then a .223 and a lot lighter gun then my .308 , plus the ammo is cheap ! You gotta go out and get yourself one of these !

Nice upper.

Who makes it?

Whats the price?

What are you paying for ammo?

Because I pay 75 cents a round to shoot at my local outdoor range. I would not run corrosive ammo in an AR either so the Yugo stuff is out. Any magnetic ammo is a no go for me at the range.

Below moa accuracy at 25yds is < 1/4"

How many rds in that group.

It's a vltor mur1 upper with a yhm diamond fluted barrel / yhm mid leanth Handgaurd and a jp break . A fellow cal gunner built it for me for 900$ complete with bcg and ch . Today I was shooting tulla steel cased 7.62x39 fmj that I picked up from CTD for 119$ for 500 rounds , I think that breaks down to somethin like .24$ a round

hows the magazine situation working out for you? Seems to be one of the biggest issues, IMO.

CTD had them in stock , so did my local shop Valkyrie arms . I had no issues at all today no fte no ftf , I'm using the asc mags

Congrats on the nice looking upper. Mags for the 7.62x39 upper are a hit and miss. YMMV

What's the advantage to an ak?

dunwitjayz
06-23-2012, 9:33 PM
The barrel harmonics of an ar are far superior to an ak . That's why greater accuracy is achievable with an ar , but an Aks round is better for penetration and knockdown power . And it's easy on the check book

Get us a range report for 100... then we'll talk about dropping dimes.

My cousin has one. It's excellent and of course much more accurate than an AK because of the action and all. You do not want to feed it cheap ( wolf ) ammo! TRUST ME!

Next time your going to chabot give me a message. I've been debating on a x39 ar for awhile. I would pay your fees to go shoot and supply my own ammo. I just want to shoot 20-30 rounds. Maybe beers after on me?

Bring it out to the Chabot silouette rifle match the first sunday of every month at the 200 yard range.

Lots of fun and everyone is helpful, make back some of your match fee too.

Mine eats Wolf ammo all day long. It's the Golden Tiger ammo that's a joke.

I bet you won't stop there (7.63x39). I see a 300 Blackout in your future. :D
I know I'll be getting one soon. Now after your post though, I'll consider a 7.62x39.

Some specs and parts I used that you should consider when running 7.62 x 39

My upper is from redxarms.com
I used the Chrome BCG from Model 1
Superbolt from AR15Performance
Enhanced firing pin from Galati. (Not sure it's any different than the 1 that came with the BCG from Model 1)
Wolf XP Hammer Spring
ASC magazine. (44mag.com has a ton of them in stock.)
