View Full Version : BCMGUNFIGHTER Charging Handle - Which Mod?

I've only used standard/stock charging handles but want to get nicer parts for my next build.

Would like some feedback if you have experience with the BCM GUNFIGHTER. I've read somewhere that the Mod 3 (large) latch will dig into your body if you are using a 2pt sling (which I am). So I'm leaning toward getting a Mod 4 or 5.

Do the Mod 4 and 5 have a similar enough feel, ease of use, etc?

I would imagine that the longer the latch, the easier it is to pull back, correct?

I use a Mod 4 on my rifle with a vortex viper pst 4-16 scope. Its a pretty big latch and is useful when charging the rifle with the large scope right over the ch. Unless you're running optics which might interfere with using the ch, I recommend using the small latch.

Take a look at the VLTOR ambi as well. I just put one on my scoped .204 Ruger AR with a big leupy on it. I do like it better than the BCMs. It allows me to use either hand in any given circumstance without reaching over the top of the receiver with my right hand. With a big scope. it really makes a difference.

I have the mid size BCM on my carbine and my 20 inch rifle. They work great.
I tried the large. And it no worky. Snags on everything.

I like the ambi's the best.

I have a Gunfighter mod. 4 on my rifle, it just recently came in the mail. When my 2-point sling finally arrives, I'll be able to tell you more.

I like this LMT one. Not too big but has a much better feel than the standard ones. It has never snagged on anything

Mod 3, Large... I only use the gun for target shooting from a set position so no sling is needed therefore I can't comment on the digging in the skin. I can however say the size def makes it easy to charge the weapon!

I have the Mod 4. I like it, not too big but you can get a nice hold on it, especially since I'm running a scope thats right over the CH.

Mod 4 here. No sling yet...

Mod 4. I'm just a range shooter but I shoot mostly off hand.

In conjunction with a BAD lever, the bigger latch makes it easier for me to use my support hand to work the CH when locking the bolt back.

Makes me curios how much better the larger Mod 3 would be.

i like my mod 3. it does touch my stomach with my 2 pt, but its not bad, and obviously its not noticeable with a vest on

Mod 3 , works great in all weather and with gloves . If you run around in a t-shirt and sling your weapon on your back, then it may dig in.

Model 4, medium. Plenty big enough for high speed use without a snag.

I like the Mod 3 but i'm weird like that... actually it comes down to gross motor skills... in an actual gun fight, with adrenaline raging the way it does, I don't have the fine motor stills to operate anything smaller... that's just me though.

It does poke me a bit when i sling it in my MS3 in single point mode... I don't notice with plates and carrier, but in a t-shirt on the "ranch" it pokes me right under my left nipple (i kinda like it :p )

Thanks all. I appreciate all the great feedback.

Looks like a lot here are happy with their Mod 4 setups. Sounds pretty good to me.

Not to say that the Mod 3 doesn't have its advantages. Maybe next time. Will look into VLTOR ambi as well.

Thx again!

I just don't quite get the oversized charging handle Kool aid thing. The stock one works fine the few times you really have to use it. The stock one stays out of the way real nicely and was designed that way for a reason. If you're doing it right, the charging handle is rarely used.

Anything else is just Kool aid in my opinion.

the BCM also distributes pressure better than the stock one and puts less stress on the roll pin. probably not a huge deal, but hey.

ive noticed its easier and smoother to rack the gun now, too.

its not a needed part at all, but i can see how it would be nice to have if you did need it. clearing jams i think would be the primary benefit of the larger charging handle, you dont have to look or think, its right there sticking out, just slap the palm of your hand rearward.

mod 4 will not poke you on a single or dual point sling since its curved the only draw back is the latch can pinch you hand when using a karate chop to cycle the bolt and it may catch on molle vest/gear YMMV. The mod 5 is smaller less likely to catch on gear and not ideal for karate chop actuations. Mod 3 is ideal for scoped bench shooting. For all around use IMHO the mod 4 fits 90% of all situations.
