View Full Version : How much does your AR weight?

Hey Guys,

I am "finished" with my AR and according to the wife its too heavy. I didnt build it for her so who cares :p But it got me thinking how much do AR's weigh on average? I figured since there are soo many setups it varies quite a bit.

I am mostly interested in lightweight set ups for future builds. But lets just see what we got out there and fight out what lightweight and heavy sets up are out there.

To make it fair and consistent we will have a few rules.

1.) Bathroom scales are OK

2.) Weight without magazine

3.) provide weight

4.) Build specs

5.) Optional pic

I figured this would be fun, I mean who doesnt like to talk about their own rifle:D

I will start with mine. It weighs exactly 8 lbs according to the bathroom scale.

- Troy TSX rail
- Knights Armament fwd grip
- Troy BUIS

Mine is heavier than I'd like but it was built to outlast the zombie apocalypse ;). My next build will be as light I can make a BCM mid-length and still keep an optic of some sort and maintain absolute military grade reliability. This one weights 9-1/2 lbs all decked out and about 8-1/4 minus the magnifier and laser/weaponlight/grip. The 700 lumen light in dazzle mode should absolutely dazzle any intruder. :D

~8 lbs for mine, but i think the calculus for weighing your rifle should be done with a mag, since the mag is part of the rifle.

mine is an LWRC M6A3 with a BCM CH, BAD lever and AFG.

I don't know, Don't have a scale. But my bushy stock weighs according to manufacturer weighs 6.35 lbs, that's I think a pound lighter than a Colt. With all the stuff I added to it including spare parts in storage compartments. I'd guess my rifle is probably up to about 8 pounds, maybe lighter I don't know.

My RAW is about 17 lbs. Have not checked weight with scope. Without scope is 14.5 lbs. it's a Sierra Precision 24" fluted bull (1") stainless steel barrel with stainless steel lower. Has 3 lbs of lead weight in the stock to balance the rifle. Scope is a Tasco Custom Shop 8-40x56 Target Rifle.

Here's a pic of rifle without scope.

I don't know how you guys handle that weight and I'm a highpower shooter. My Compass Lake space gun is 13.5 pounds and it feels like it's bolted to the floor when I pick it up. When I shoot it offhand, it wears me out.
I just got a WOA service rifle for plinking, it's got some weight to it but I think I wont put any lead in the stock and see how it shoots.

Just over 6 pounds.

I used:

Cavalry Arms polymer lower
DoubleStar 16" A1 contour chrome-lined barrel, with the standard A2 front sight
Primary Arms Micro Red dot clone with riser
Magpul gen 1 MBUS rear sight.
Cavalry Arms muzzle brake

Everything else was standard. Carbine buffer, m16 BCG, regular synthetic handguards with a single heat shield, the usual.

I'll try to post a picture of it later. I built is as a lightweight for my wife. But because the Cav Arms lower has a bulkier pistol grip, she didn't like it because her thumb couldn't reach the selector. Ah well. Maybe one of the girls will like it someday. If they don't steal my other ARs first.

I forget exactly, but when I weighed it with a scale that had pounds and ounces, it was just over 6 pounds. However, add the bipod and scope and it is back in the mid 8 pound range.

I would upload a photo, but photobucket says its down for maintenance.
