Costco has these motion activated & light sensitive LED lights at ~$20. I picked up a set today and have been playing with them at the office. In Auto mode, they only activate when they sense motion in the dark - in the light, they won't activate - great battery saver. I plan to velcro these into the safe at home :)

The same item can be found at Amazon for $30: http://www.amazon.com/Megabrite-Wireless-Motion-Sensor-Undercabinet/dp/B0079M7ASM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Sorry I don't post safe pictures online, but they are plenty bright. The package includes batteries too!

eBay is a good resource for LEDs and SMDs. Might take a while for shipping, but rock bottom prices.

I don't see it on Costco's website, but I found these near the battery/flashlight section in the store (Redwood City location - ymmv).

I have these and they work great

Put a peice of black tape over the light sensor and just use the motion sensor.
You need to trick it to think it's alway dark so when it senses motion it turns on and when there is no motion for 30-60sec it will shut off

I installed these in my safe, and it's really bright. Note to others installing these: regardless of how you affix it to your safe, make sure you can easily remove the unit so when you need to replace your battery, the compartment is accessible. The battery door is on the back, and will most likely be inaccessible if your mount it flush against the inside of the safe. I used Velcro, works like a charm.

A lot of items found in the store don't show up online. Also, a lot of items vary from store to store.

I told a friend about these lights this morning and he found them at the Santa Clara Costco this afternoon. So it seems like they are widely available.

Finally picked one of these up @ the costco in Sunnyvale today for 21.xx OTD. I was surprised how big they are, about a foot long.

I only mounted one inside, right above the door frame and lights the whole safe, activated when I open the door. I’ll have to post a picture later on.

Worth checking out if you find yourself in need of some light. :)
