what is the best way to open the spam can. i see on line some come with a special can opener. i was not that lucky. i do want to do a clean job and not hack away at it. is it true that some come with strip clips inside. bought it at ammo bros for 108 plus tax. it is rusky with 188 in big letters on the can.

Usually you get a big can opener and that just hacks it open that about the only way usually from the Russian stuff I've seen it wont have clips it's usually jut boxes of 20 sg ammo have 660 crates on strippers for 150 shipped

Sheet metal snips the heavy duty kind. For leverage wrap each handle with a foot long metal tube

How about a grinder? :D

This was the only video I could find of someone using a grinder to open his spam can. There was a better video, but my YouTube-fu must be weak today.

You just need to get a hole in it large enough to take a few of them out and the rest will slide into place. I just take a screwdriver to the sides of the can then a set of tinsnips across the center to open up a say 5x5 hole which is enough room to pull the rounds out.

I use a fat flat head screwdriver and a rubber mallet worked awesome for me

Whether or not it is mute is a moot point. I doubt they speak your language anyway. ;)

As for opening them, before I had an opener. I just took a small chisel and a hammer and cut it open along the top inside edge of the lid. It went pretty fast. I would cut enough to to peel it back and get a few boxes out. Then it was pretty easy to get the rest out. As for it going bad, I wouldn't stress about it. I still have some bulgarian heavy ball that was made in 1955, and opened up for sale in the early 1990s. It still works just fine.

Shooting a Mosin = Fun

Opening a spam can = NOT Fun

Yes some 7.62x54r come on stripper clips.

Your's from ammobros will 99% probably not be on stripper clips. It should be the same ones they sell by the pack that are just 20 rounds in a paper wrapper.

Like others have said chisel and mallet

tell a Rusky there's vodka and cigarettes in it....it'll be open before you can say "Kalashnikov"

usually the 300rd and 600rd cans come with clips, the 440rd and 880rd are paper packed....
