I haven't fired it myself. The bore looks pristine: shiny with strong lands and grooves, no nicks on the crown.

The tang is marked 56 (factory re-arsenaled for service in 1956), and the barrel may have been replaced with a new one at the arsenal. The serial number on the barrel matches the receiver, but the barrel proof mark is post-1943.

The soldier that the rifle was last issued to was born in 1936 according to his tag. 1956 is when he would have started his service. The rifle was most likely re-arsenaled for him. So, the rifle was most likely was owned by two soldiers. First owner had it from 1934 to ~1956, second guy had it from 1956 to whenever he was issued his Stgw. 57.

Local pick up takes it for $200.

I'm in the L.A. area, is the rifle still available? Any cracks in the stock?

Best regards
