I'm thinking about building a 300blk. I would appreciate any input. I hear ammo is expensive. I was also wondering about mags. I did a quick google of 300blk mags and came up with nothing. Help me out I am relatively new to this stuff. Thanks!

Ammo is more expensive than .223, but no more expensive than the other alternate calibers. If you want cheap, get a 7.62*39.
Magazines are the same as .223 because .300 BLK ammo is made from .223 brass.

If you have other caliber ARs, then building a 300 BLK would be fun.

The only difference between a 5.56 AR and a 300 BLK AR is the barrel. That is it. Same bolt, same magazines, same everything else. I use USGI mags and pmags for 5.56 with my 300 BLK ammo.

Ammo is definitely more expensive than 5.56, but then again, 5.56 is creeping up. Ordering in bulk always helps, but you can get 115 grain Remington UMC ammo for about $0.60/round. Whenever I buy 5.56, I now only buy steel cased because I can get it for less than half of that.

I personally only use my ARs for casual shooting and I built a 300 BLK upper simply because I wanted a really short rifle with a suppressor (I'm in a free state).

Thanks for the info guys. I'm guessing the chamber would be different.... So if I bought a 300 blk upper, It would be ok to swap with my 5.56 upper???? Is that true?

That is correct, if you have a complete 300 upper, you can just swap uppers onto the same lower.

As for ammo, if you reload yourself, you can load 300BO for less than $.20 a round, I have it at $.17 a round for supersonic, using mostly milsurp components.
