I think these specific matches are .338 caliber maximum. Someone can correct if not.

Just talked to Gary the match director and he said you can bring your .416 if you shoot the whole match 60 rounds. You dont have to be a member to shoot pm me if you want any other info

The range does not allow anything larger than 338 LM per the BoD. Not even for matches.

So hopefully you were just joking :)

wooger

It must be a joke, they won't let me shoot my 20mm.

What is the minimum caliber for 1000 yards? Could someone bring out a .223 with 69 grain SMK's?

robtech
06-19-2012, 1:30 PM
i'd imagine the minimum caliber would be something that can reach out that far reliably

damnit i might be able to go for a lil bit in the morning, i'll try to at least watch

I cannot go, cause it will not be fare to others since I'll take first place easily :)

.223 won't cut it, you need 5.56 ;)

mattt

I heard the 223 wont even go threw the cardboard target most of the time at 1000 yards even with a real heavy load like a 69 grain.

From a 1:8, 24" barrel, my spotter said the 68gr bullets were subsonic from 800 yards and my group was crap. More crap than usual even!

75s, 80s, 82s. Sure they flew better but once you've sipped from the 6, 6.5 or 7mm well, there's no going back.

When are the 1k yard 'practice' days? Do the F class guys still do it on tues/thursday etc? I have a rifle I want to try but a 60 round match with it would be kind of silly.

Have plans I can't change this weekend, see you guys at the 3x600 in a couple weeks.

Have fun.

Twinspool we were just joking about the 223. There are some 223 rifles that do well out to a 1000 yards.

We had 104F in Coalinga (3x600) last weekend - and no roof to give shade.
- I may need to wear my long-johns for this :)

See you all up there!

I only have a 20" barrel and a scope I haven't even bore sighted yet.

Truth told....1000 yards is more than I want to try a 5.56 at. I WILL try to make the next 200,300,600 match.

The non-bore-sighted part isn't as bad as you would think.
- I saw it done at the 1,000 yard line by just looking through the barrel and lining up the crosshairs.
A little harder with an AR type weapon than a bolt rifle.

As for .223 ballistics, I have no idea what's required for 1,000y.

For a .308, factory ammo(175SMK) and an 18"+ barrel can work at Sac's 1,000y line. More speed will be helpful :)

Low overall. 5 moa on the gun with 4moa holdoffs don't make for good scores. I'll post them when Craig sends them out if you would like.

I have not seen an email, but this is from a photo I took of the screen.
- 4 out 7 shooters were named Nick :)
- Not to mess up spelling further, I used initials. (Let me know if you want your initials changed.)
- I don't think I ever seen so many misses. The wind changes were pretty quick and big.

I had tremendous help by being next to Andrew; I could see his impacts as a consequence of the wind change.
- Assuming he was aiming for the center, it somewhat helped me gage how strong the winds were :D

I still don't know why his bullets only seemed to move one third of what mine did due to wind ;)
