Finally got all the pieces together for my M16A5 build. Sadly I wasn't able to get a BCM upper right now so I went with a PSA upper here: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/complete-uppers/20-madness-20-cmv-chrome-lined-stripped-upper-without-bcg-or-charging-handle.html It has M4 feed ramps, the upper has the same forge marking as my BCM middy, and the barrel looks nice. I will stick a chamber gauge in it later this week and confirm it is 5.56. I still plan on getting the BCM upper when it comes back in stock though and probably selling this one.

The rest of the parts are Vltor A5 buffer setup, B5 SOPMOD, Noveske QD receiver plate, KAC 200-600 micro BUIS and M5 RAS rail, BCM BCG and mod 4 charging handle (I like the new design with the gas buster style shelf), Magpul trigger guard and Moe + grip, CMMG lower with a Stag LPK. Optic will be an ACOG TA31XX (not sure if I want a chevron or horseshoe or red or green reticles yet)

I will be assembling it later tonight and hopefully take it to the range this weekend. Some pics of the parts I already have, will update later tonight with complete rifle pics.

Thanks, still a little bummed that BCM is out of stock on their 20" uppers. Oh well I guess.

Nice I've been waiting for PSA to have their 20" FHN barreled uppers back in stock for a short while. I've wanted to something similar for awhile.

Nice.

I've got the PSA 20" CH FN barrel on mine, with the A5 and Gunfighter CH. If I ever get sick of the Midwest free-float tube, I'll probably go whole-hog on the A5-gery thing and get the KAC rail.

Make sure you take lots of pix. :)

Good to see someone man up with a 20" barrel who can reach out to long distances.

Dont loiter on the 50 yard line with the ricky recon crowd.

I regularly shoot 300 yards with my 16" middy and Aimpoint PRO. I built this for shooting service rifle matches up to 600 yards.

So my CMMG lower is no good. It was a blemish lower I paid $99 for and the mag well is a little bit tight, wouldn't drop PMags free. So I sanded the mag well a bit and now it drops them ok, but still a bit on the tight side of spec. Move forward to assembly of the lower and the bolt catch detent hole is too small and now the detent is completely stuck in the lower and won't budge. I'm gonna scrap this piece of **** and get a lower that is actually in spec. Sucks because I have to wait another 10 days for the new lower I'm sure thanks to this states bull**** laws. 5 more months and I move back to VA :)

In the mean time here is a pic of my complete upper. Looks like this project has to sit on the back burner for another 2 weeks or so.

Well I got it all figured out. I will need to drill out the stuck detent next week and get another, but I got the rest all put together. Sucks that 1 hole is about .005" too small and it snagged me up. Oh well, it looks pretty good now. :)

Looks great! Have you shot it yet? I just picked up an A5 stock kit, I am really particular about the lower I am going to put it on. I am not sure if the lower I have deserves it yet.

Yeah, the only reason I went with this CMMG lower over the Stag (which I know to be in spec) was because of the roll mark. I have 2 Stag lowers and I hate that ****ing deer head. This one is gonna work out well for me I think, it was just a bit of a pain to deal with.

Also note, that is as far as the SOPMOD stock goes in on the A5 tube. Not a big deal for me because I usually shoot with it on that exact spot, but thought I would give a heads up it won't fully collapse like on a carbine tube.

The A5 tube is designed to be used with the VLT0R Emod stock, which will fully collapse. (Side note: that's what I have, and I love it.)

You won't really notice that much of a difference using it with a 20" barrel vs using a normal A2 stock / spring / buffer arrangement. You will see a huge difference if you're currently using a carbine spring & buffer arrangement.

I don't like them, they catch beard hair.
