Can I shoot off a front bag and rear bag?

Shooting from a bench with bags, prone, off-hand is all OK. No requirement for that, just use the proper distance and sights for the target that you are shooting. Be sure to annotate your targets with the info as in the OPs post.

Nice shooting usmcchet and great that your son is shooting too. No more for me for a while, I have the cold/flu from H@LL. I think its the worst I have ever had, maybe age related. Can you get refunds on flu shots if you catch the flu anyway? Best of luck to all the rimfire folks in 2012!! :taz::taz::taz:

Rules:
This is an online match. Print off the targets, shoot where and when you want. Come back and post your targets for those in your face bragging rights!! I do encourage meeting up with other match shooters. I shoot with USMCCHET at ASR range and anyone is welcome to join us. I'll post when I'm going next.

Bonus Point
Here is how it will work. This is only on targets that have multiple shots on one target We shoot the targets as normal and add up the scores like normal. The twist is we shoot for groups as well. For example, if we are shooting 5 shots on each target. If none of the 5 bullet holes are touching you get no bonus points. If two are touching you get 2 bonus points. If three are touching you get 3 bonus points on up to 5 bonus points for each target.

Shot the 25 yd Iron Sight target yesterday. Had to contend with some wind, 5-10mph occasionaly. Shot with CZ Ultralux and Federal 711B ammo. Score=115. Also shot the 50 yd Iron target but too much wind at that distance, lousy score.

First off I want to curse good old SnS. That 25 yard target hurt my eyes. At 25 yards those circles look like pin *****s and I could olny shoot 5 targets before my eyes started hurting. Well I scored 112 and now I need to see my eye doctor

USMCCHET: Nice shooting, especially the 100yd irons, gonna be hard to match or beat that one. Yeah, 10X scope makes it pretty difficult on a 100 yd target. I can't use less than 20X to score decently at that range.

I snuck out for an hour last weekend, and with the couple feet of snow we've received the last couple days, I suspect that's the last shooting range visit I'll make for a while.

It was (like it always is) windy at the Dunsmuir range, and you can see it on the 100 yard target. I need to get there early to beat the wind.

I shot two 100 yard targets, and the score only varied by one point (this was the second). Because I'm cursed with a poor memory, I shot the 100 yard targets, walked down to retrieve them, and realized I hadn't fired at the bullseye on the critter's head on either target.

Brilliant.

Raccoon/100 yard target: 54 points

http://troutunderground.com/images/raccoontarget.jpg

(Savage TR, bipod and rear bean bag, SK Standard+ ammunition)

I walked back, mis-read the wind, and missed on both targets in pretty much exactly the same place.

Say what you will about me; at least I miss consistently.

I went for broke on the Know Your Limits target; I missed cleaning the first (top) target by 3/4 of an inch, but cleaned the second (lower) target, so I *guess* I scored a 105. Be nice to have another run at this -- especially with a time limit...

For February, I propose a "Winter Sniper" competition, where you have to ski into the shooting range and fire from the snow.

What, don't you guys have snow down there? Too bad... 8-)

Nice shooting TCWriter

Thanks. Shooting the somewhat indistinct 100 yard target with my 16x scope wasn't easy. I couldn't see the bullseye on the head, and trying to shoot it with a 10x optic would have been pretty damned hard.

In any case, I might be out of this for a couple months, though I suppose skiing into the range would guarantee a certain amount of privacy...

Some of us do have snow but not like yours. (I am at 6000 ft) You are the man for trudging thru the snow to shoot. Nice shooting given your conditions. I applaud you and usmcchet for trying to clean that 50yd scoped target. That is a tough challenge.

Shot three targets today. First was 50yd scoped target, Score 130. Second was 100yd scoped target, Score 54. Thought is was a 62 but on close examination I missed one of the bulls. Last was the 100yd iron target, Score 51 but as I was scoring the target I realized it was the wrong target for this month so didn't post. I blame it on having too many birthdays or otherwise called CRS disease (Can't Remember Stuff ( or that other nasty word)).

Tomorrow is the last day and hope to see some more shooters post targets.

Edit: Unlike usmcchet and tcwriter, I wimped out on shooting at the 40pt dots (1/2 moa I think) on the 50yd scoped target. Tried it several times before and could get one but not both. Tough target.

I would appreciate some feedback (via PM) on the changes. As I am sure you are aware, different targets can be hard to come by but we'll try.

Hope to see more shooters in February, come on and shoot it's a lot of fun and will improve your skills.

February targets!!

Print all targets at 100%. Colored targets may be printed in grayscale to save on color ink if desired.

25 Yard Irons:
See attachment below.
Take 3 shots at each target for a total of 12 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.

50 Yard Scoped
See attachment below.
Take 3 shots on each bullseye for a total of 18 shots. Center bull is 10, then 9, 8, 7, 6.

50 Yard Irons
See attachment below.
Take 5 shots on each target for a total of 10 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.

100 Yard Irons
Take 5 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.
See attachment below.

75 Yard Scoped (NEW)
See my second post for the target.
Take 2 shots on each target for a total of 18. Center white circle is 10 but shot may not touch the black, black circle is 9.

100 Yard Scoped
See Attachment.
Take 5 shots. Center is 12, then 10, 9, 8.

Note: Iron sight targets have been scaled (at least as close as I could) so that the sight picture remains constant at each range, ie, 25yd target is 2”, 40yd target is 4” and 100yd target is 8”.

For each target indicate your total score and if not already indicated on the target note the distance shot and what type of sights. Ex: Score =xxx, Iron Sights (or Scope) No fair shooting iron sight targets with a scope.

Rules:
This is an online match. Print off the targets, shoot where and when you want. Come back and post your targets for those in your face bragging rights!! I do encourage meeting up with other match shooters. Any rimfire firearm is eligible. Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against is acceptable. Using a rest in which the rifle can be locked down is verbotten.

First time trying this out. Went to San Leandro Rifle & Pistol Range and shot the 50yds scoped. I'm not confident with my scoring yet so I didn't write them down but my guess is I got 153. The range didn't have sand bags or rests in 50yd lines, I think I could do better with a rest or bags, maybe I'll be able to try this out again later this month.

Twas a windy day at the range today and cold as well. 48 degrees with a 5-10mph crosswind. First shot the 50 yard scoped target but shots were all over the target. Gave up on that and shot the 25yd Iron target, not as much wind effect, with the Kimber 82g, aperture sights and Federal 711B ammo. Started with Wolf MT but did not shoot well at all. Think it may have been the temperature.

Scored 127 on best target. Also shot a 126 and 125. Best target was the first one shot.

Great day for shooting, 2-3MPH wind and about 55 degrees. 50yd scoped target score was 185, 50yd Iron target score was 95 (Whoops, miss scored this target, score was 108). Both shot with the Kimber 82g and Wolf MT ammo. Used aperture sights for the Irons and Weaver 6.5-20X for the scoped target. 75yd Scoped target which I thought wouldn't be so difficult turned out to be exactly that. Shot with Savage BTVS and Vortex 8-32X scope. Ammo was 17gr Hornady V-max. Afterwards I tried some CCI 20 gr ammo and turns out the rifle likes that much better.

Nice shooting Izzy, that Kimber's a tack driver! Again, I think I need to get some glasses for shooting irons. Went out to Panoche hills with the family today, and was shooting bright orange clays out to about 100 yards with a Savage model 19/33. I can't seem to pick up anything dark colored though. Too hard to see bullseyes against the front post.

You gotta find someone who has a rifle with front and rear aperture sights and give them a try. Totally different than standard iron sights. Makes old blind guys like me shoot like a youngster. I can't shoot regular iron sights (front post type) worth beans, I have the same problem as you.

Shot the 100yd scoped target today with a Marlin 925M (.22WMR) and a Savage 93r17 (.17HMR). Not the best of conditions with a 8-10mph wind gusting. Pretty happy with the results from both rifles. The Marlin shot a 53 and the Savage shot a 54 (correction: score was 56, didn't count both two holes touching on original score) with two, one hole shots on the outer 10 ring. The Savage group measured 7/8" center to center. The Marlin 4 shot group was the same but the 5 shot group was 1-1/8". Wind was blowing shots to the right and try as I might I couldn't hold off enough to the left to get into the bullseye consistently.

This looks like a lot of fun. Up north here in the Central Valley (Manteca), we've been doing a lot of informal shooting at the indoor ranger at my club over the last several months (6pm). Link here (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=520485). Its 50 ft though so we've been using different targets (mostly A-17). If you've got a recommendation on equivalents, i might find a couple of people to add results to the thread.

Some of us have been working on the Winchester Marksmanship Program (http://www.nrahq.org/education/training/marksmanship/) for light right, or reduced Appleseed targets (see attached).

Always fun to get out there and a little competition is fun.

Congratulations to the Winners!!!!!.

25 yard Irons: Izzy43 Score-127

50 yard Irons: USMCCHET Score-113

50 yard Scope: Covingtonhouse Score-186

75 yard Scope: Izzy43 Score-164 (easy win, no competition)

100 yard Iron: USMCCHET Score-52

100 yard Scope: Izzy43 Score-56

March Targets!!

Talk the match up to your friends to hopefully get more shooters.

Print all targets at 100%. Colored targets may be printed in grayscale to save on color ink if desired.

At the request of another Calgunner here is a target for 50 feet. Its an Appleseed target but will have a little different shooting requirement for this match.

25 Yard Irons: (Same as last month)
See attachment below.
Take 3 shots at each target for a total of 12 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.

25 and 50 Yard Scoped
This is a new target for scoped shooting @ 25 yds and the same target for 50 yd scoped. The twist is that for 25yds the maximum scope magnification that can be used is 9X and the maximum scope magnification for 50 yds is 16X. If you use a variable scope ensure that you set the magnification appropriately for each target and annotate the target accordingly.
See attachment below.
Take 1 shot at each bullseye for a total of 10 shots. There are two sighter bullseyes Center ring is 10, then 9, 8, 7, 6.

50 Yard Irons: (Same as last month)
See attachment below.
Take 5 shots on each target for a total of 10 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.

100 Yard Irons: (Same as last month)
Take 5 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.
See attachment below.

100 Yard Scoped
See Attachment.
Take 5 shots. Center is 12, then 10, 9, 8.

Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against a tree is acceptable. Using a rest in which the rifle can be locked down is verboten.

Bonus Points
Here is how it will work. This is only on targets that have multiple shots on one target. We shoot the targets as normal and add up the scores like normal. The twist is we shoot for groups as well. For example, if we are shooting 5 shots on each target. If none of the 5 bullet holes are touching you get no bonus points. If two are touching you get 2 bonus points. If three are touching you get 3 bonus points on up to 5 bonus points for each target.

Finally for any questions just drop me a PM and I'll get right back to you. Feel free to also PM me with feedback/complaints/errors I make, etc... These matches are based on “Gentlemen's/Ladie's Honor” so go shoot and have fun.

It's been warm, so snowshoes were only barely needed to get into the range and shoot. I can't complain about the weather -- it was 64 degrees there (an astonishingly nice day for March).

(Everything shot with my Savage TR using SK Standard+ ammo -- same as Wolf Match).

50 Yard Scoped: 85

http://chandlerwrites.com/images/50ydmarch.jpg

Those 7's are killers. I shot two of 50 yard targets (the other was an 84) and I was a lot happier with them than the 100 yard target:

100 Yard Scoped: 52

http://chandlerwrites.com/images/100ydmarch.jpg

Because everything takes longer than you think it should, I only shot one 100 yard target, and I'd love to sneak out for an hour so to try and beat it. Sadly, the dreaming and the doing are two different beasts.

Because I didn't want to haul the equivalent of a small pickup truck up there, I kept the gear limited; the Savage TR, Millett "Tactical" 4x-16x scope, bipod and small shooting glove for the rear rest.

I've been playing with the Strelok ballistics software on my android phone, and naturally, the numbers don't come close to matching my dope.

Glad I could enter this month, and hope the worst weather is over.

Shot the scoped targets today. Shot the Zastava Z5 with Simmons 3-9x scope and Federal 711B ammo for the 25yd scoped target. Score 92-5X. Shot the Marlin 925M with Weaver 6.5-20x scope (set at 16X) and CCI Maxi-Mag ammo for the 50 yd scoped target. Score 78-2x. Shot the Savage BTVS with Vortex 8-32x scope and Hornady 17gr ammo for the 100yd scoped target. Score 60. Shooting conditions couldn't have been better. Overcast, 50 degrees and 2mph wind.

I found a couple references to a BC of .131 for Wolf Match, which is the same as SK Standard+. What are you using?

What I really need to do is get my steel measure out there and make sure their 50 yard and 100 yard target stands are actually 50 and 100 yards.

Then I'll start messing with the software a little more seriously.

Im using .129 for sk std +. last time i checked drop at 100 yds for a 50 yd zero was about 7 moa. Its close but i dont think it will x-ring a target just using the calculator. Ive found that you still need some fine tuning to get it right on. Works well for getting on pap er at long distances w/ high power rifle. But i dont think theres a chart or calculator out there thats better than good dope.

I think the tables call for about 7 MOA, but I'm up at 8 MOA at 100 yards (50 yard zero), and that's at 3500' of altitude (100 yard range).

Which seems backwards, but like I said, I'm going to confirm the distances with a contracter's tape. I'm not looking for x-ring accuracy, but I do want to shoot the .22 at longer ranges (upwards of 300 yards on our higher-altitutde range) and would like to nudge everything so I'm at least in the ballpark.

So how much does temp. and altitude affect a .22?? I shoot anywhere from 120-1300ft. and from 35-90 degrees?? I've only noticed minimal effects when plugging numbers into the calc.

A bump to call attention to the Match. I know the weather has not been good but still a lot of time left in the month for some shooting. I'm under 18" of snow this weekend and 16 degree temps so tough to get out and shoot. Hope to see some more targets before month's end.

I'll be posting the April match as well and will be adding a 15 and 25yd Pistol Match. Requested by some fellow members so we'll give it a try.

I tried to shoot yesterday (not enough snow to stop me getting in), but a series of snow squalls were coming in -- along with the 20 mph wind, the 35 mph gusts, horizontal snow, and "damn, I can't feel my face or my fingers" sensations.

Not exactly ideal for a 3/4" group at 100 yards.

Maybe next time...

You are a real trooper to try shooting in that weather. I froze just running my snow blower for 30 minutes. Then it dumped another 8 inches on my driveway last night and CalTrans built a nice 3 ft snow berm at the top of my driveway. Still, gotta love the snow.

Most of the snow is staying south of us, but it's damn cold; couldn't force the utility room door open this morning when the dog had to go out (froze).

All I really wanted to do was work on the 100 yard targets; as soon as it warms and the 300 yard range opens up, I want to get the .22 out to 200 and 300 yards, just to see what's going to happen...

Yes. Any type of support can be used as long as it it not a rest where by the rifle will maintain its position after being fired such as the type of rest where the rifle is locked into the rest.

Here is the type (and their are many different designs) of bench rest that is NOT allowed for these matches: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003DWQGU0/ref=asc_df_B003DWQGU01961874?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B003DWQGU0&hvpos=none&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=110669002112204298&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=

Went out and hit Los Altos Gun Club today to shoot the 50 and 100yd scoped targets. Scored 140 on the 50 scoped, and 56 (if I scored correctly) on the 100 yd scoped. 50 high score was shot with Federal UM22 UltraMatch, and the 100 high score was shot with SK std+. Both scores shot with a Savage MKII BV with a Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40 scope.
I scored the 100 as follows. 12, 12, 10, 9, 9 for 52. Bonus points for two, two shot groups at 4pts. Total 56. I can also read it as two individual groups at 1 pt each for 54. Jury???

Shot the 100yd scoped target yesterday with Savage 93r17 BTVS using Hornady .17HMR V-Max 17gr ammo. A little wind but don't think it affected the outcome that much. Shot another target with a much tighter group but it was off the bull. Score-58.

holy crap Izzy. That is an amazing group.

Just more proof that:

1. 32X magnification is not always best, lower is sometimes better.
2. If you are willing to spend the $$$ on endless ammo you might shoot a good group.
3. It's nice to be lucky cause you don't have to practice luck.

Seriously, thanks for the comment. Always have to have a little luck in all we do for the best results. Happy shooting.

Any rimfire rifle and rimfire caliber for the rifle targets, any rimfire pistol or revolver and rimfire caliber for the pistol targets. Semi-autos are fine.

OK folks, finally got out to ASR today for some rare shooting.

25yds=126pts used 10/22 tech sights
50yds scoped=136pts used CZ452 American with a Mueller APV scope.

It was fun to finally get out and throw some lead down range. Tried the Winchester 9422 with little success. I liked my new sights-Lyman globe front/ Williams rear combo, but need to find the right ammo.

Thanx for keeping the matches going!

Our second 70+ degree day and with the snow finally gone, I made it out to the range with the Savage TR/Millett 4x16 combo.

I shot the 50 yard scoped prone (well, I shot three of them prone). Less comfortable but for some reason it seems more consistent (maybe the ground effect on the wind). This was the last of three targets:

http://chandlerwrites.com/images/scannedtargets-1.jpg

At 100 yards I'm not getting the groups I used to, suggesting it's probably time to clean the barrel. When I do a thorough clean, it takes 20-30 rounds for the gun to start grouping like I know it can, so I tend not to clean it (outside of dragging a patch through it).

When I can't get a good 100 yard group, I know it's time to clean and take my lumps for the next 30 rounds. In any case, 56 points. Got lucky with how the groups formed on the bull -- the other two targets were loose and to the right.

http://chandlerwrites.com/images/100yard42012.jpg

Everything shot with the wildly fun (and accurate, and affordable) Savage TR, Millett 4x16 scope, SK Standard+ (same as Wolf Match), cheap Caldwell bipod and bean bag rear rest.

I didn't have time to shoot the pistol targets (I've got Savage Mk III), but I can say there doesn't seem to be much point in buying an iron sites gun given the incredible groups I'm seeing. Scheez.

Well 2 weeks ago I shoot the 100 yard irons and scoped. Didnt do as good as I wanted. I felt a little off that day. Well it was because a few hours later I was in the emergancy room after I threw up blood and lost 3 pints of blood.
100 yard scoped I shot 48-51-55. The groups are OK but could be better and will once I get my CZ 455 PT. This was shot with a 452/Super Sniper 10X

Personally I think 25 irons is just too far and would change it to 7 yard irons, 15 yard irons/reddots, and 25 yard 1 to 4x scoped but I do really like the option to shoot pistols even though I need more time to get better.

PS got a S&W 617 last week but it was a little off as was I. Looked and the barrel is canted about 1mm or less to the left and I need some more time behind the gun before I see if that is causing the problem with my grouping.

Print all targets at 100%. Colored targets may be printed in grayscale to save on color ink if desired.

Take 2 shots at each target for a total of 16 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target. bull is 10pts

50 Yard Irons:
See attachment below.
Take 5 shots on each target for a total of 10 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target. X-ring is 12pts.

100 Yard Scoped & Irons
See Attachment.
Take 5 shots. Center is 12, then 10, 9, 8.

15 Yard Pistol:
See attachment below. We are using the 50 yard irons target.
Take 5 shots on each target for a total of 10 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target. X-ring is 12pts.

For each target indicate your total score and if not already indicated on the target note the distance shot and what type of sights. Ex: Score =xxx, Iron Sights, Scope, Red Dot. No fair shooting iron sight targets with a scope for score.

Rules:
This is an online match. Print off the targets, shoot where and when you want. Come back and post your targets for those in your face bragging rights!! I do encourage meeting up with other match shooters. Any rimfire firearm is eligible. Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against a tree is acceptable. Using a rest in which the Rifle/Pistol can be locked down is verboten.

What position did you fire from?

Brian

I was shooting from a seated position. It was a standard range bench.

Also, a general question about scoring. The way I scored was that if my hole was in the majority of a number (more than 50%), that's what I went with. I did not count the higher score if my hole was just touching it or even 30%-40% inside the number. If the hole was split even between two numbers, I went with the higher score. Is that sound about right?

G-forceJunkie

I have had my S&W 22A-1 for a year or so but never really shot it much. So yesterday was practice day. I ran 500 yds of various ammo thru the pistol for practice and to determine the ammo that it shot the best. Turned out to be Aquila Pistol Match 1080fps. The pistol never malfunctioned even once. Shot Blazers, Centurion, Fed Automatch, Wolf and the Aguila.

So today I shot for score at 15yds using the iron sights. Scores were 72, 74, 77, 78 and finally after putting on my glasses so I could focus on the front sight post I shot a 90 (top bull score is 49 not 48 as I marked on the target, can't add) which is the target I posted. Put three thru one hole which was a shocker for me.

Put three thru one hole which was a shocker for me.

Damn, I need to start hitting the range more and step up my game. How did the federal automatch do? Trying to find the best "target" ammo that I can pick up at walmart....

The Automatch funtioned perfectly but didn't seem to group as well as the Aguila. I didn't really shoot a lot of the AM so I wouldn't judge my experience on that ammo. It does shoot good @ 25yds out of a couple of my rifles. I got a ton of it.

You might want to try the Federal Lightning @ Walmart, gets good reviews on RimfireCentral.com. I have some but haven't tried it in the pistol.

Are you ready for this, two years ago during the upcoming new ammo law here in CA ( which eventually was ruled unconstitutional ) I bought 50 boxes of Automatch which ended up being a small portion of what I bought in total ammo.

Keep at it, you'll get better. If you can shoot one 12 then you can shoot a bunch, just keep practicing. If you don't mind a suggestion most of those Savage barrels just love Wolf Match Target. Might want to try some if you can find it locally.

My 10/22 really likes WTM. The first time I used it I was pretty happy with the results, the broad side of the barn had some holes in it, which was a nice improvement. Keep a rag handy when you load it, it can be a bit waxy.

Been quietly following this competition/thread for a while now. I need to get out to the range more often and see if I can hit some of these targets.

Should be no problem cycling a semi-auto. Works great in my S&W 22A-1 pistol. If it won't cycle your semi-auto I would look to the gun as an issue, not the Wolf ammo.

Good choice! Pro-tip - field strip this thing in front of a computer for when you inevitably get stuck putting it back together. The thing I missed was pulling the trigger to push the hammer all the way up(with a rod or something from behind) before re-inserting the mainspring. It is kinda a PITA to clean but a great gun(I've got a Mark III Target).

Agreed, Nice shooting usmcchet.

I just went yesterday to sight in the UltraLux and lets just say I won't even post my first attempt. Getting used to the sights on the UL. It looks like I need to bring the front sight up because it's constantly shooting high. BRNO match sights on the way...

First 'match' and I feel like an id-10-t - I shot the wrong targets. Grrrrr. I used the 50 yard iron target from the Feb match I downloaded it some time ago.

When is the last day I can post targets for this month? I maaaaaay be able to get to the range early next week.

Here is my best anyway - 89 on the Feb target. ~84 Corrected for May target. That last shot the top target, geez, I have no idea what happend! eye spasm.. I must say this was much harder than I thought it would be. Those bulls are tiny when you get them out 15 yards.

My gun: Browning Contour 5", iron sights, right outta the box.

Ok, right targets this time. I tried two different guns so I'll post two targets. Both guns have iron sights - Browning Contour 5.5 and a Browning Challenger II.

The Challenger is so much nicer than my Contour, but I have to shoot it single shot as it won't cycle well with anything other than CCI MiniMags. I only had some left over Winchester whitebox stuff. I should have more time in June to find 'better' ammo.

I am not 100% sure about the '7' on the Challenger top target. When I took the target down, the line was torn. When placed flat on the scanner glass, one can't see the tearing - so I'll leave it to the official scorer to render his opinion.

The nice thing about .22's is the case is the same diameter as the bullet. Stick an empty case in the hole and see if it it touching the line. If its so close its hard to tell, take the higher score, thats how most associations do it.

Nice shooting. Those BRNO sights are the way to go with the UL. Try some Wolf Match Target ammo in the UL and you'll see a great improvement in the groups and precision. Good shooting with the Ruger. I have heard some issues with leading in pistolas with the Blazer, keep an eye on that. Just put a Ruger SR22 in jail about an hour ago, got it for the wife. Appears to be a great little pistol.

I've got the basic hi-viz sights on my 10/22, do you think upgrading to tech sights might help with accuracy? Right now my accuracy isn't great, but I think that other than a scope, tech sights might help. Hoping to enter with the 10/22 for next months challenge.

Izzy and g-force, see this http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=570473

My 22/45 has gone through about 5k rounds of blazer without any lead fouling or build up. I've never had to clean the barrel besides it's first ever range trip. My 22/45 really likes blazer ammo.

On the SR22p I ran less than a hundred rounds of Blazer and it got some pretty bad build up. I had to bronze brush it and was able to get everything out. I'm only shooting copper plated ammo on that pistol now.

Sorry for the thread high-jacking...

Thanks Izzy, First time using the sights so still getting used to them. I think I could do better with a rear bag, but the sights are awesome. I'm also going to try a smaller diameter ring up front at some point. I have some wolf MT but want to get better with the AM22 before I get spoiled

50 Yards Scoped
See attachment below.
First Target is 12,10,9,8. Take 3 shots. If touching take your bonus points. The rest is gonna be a bit tricky. I really like this target and can't wait to see peoples results. This is a hostage target and you don't want to shoot the hostage or you get -points. Take one shot at each hostage situation. if you break into the hostage you lose all point and take the minus for what you hit. look closly before you shoot. Some its safer to take a head shot and some safer to take a body shot. You choose whats best for you.

100 Yard Scoped

Take 5 shots. Center is 12, then 10, 9, 8.

15 yard Pistol Target, Iron Sights or Red Dot. No Magnified Optics.
Use the 50 yd Iron Sight Target
See Attachment
Take five shots at each bullseye. Score your target. Target may be shot off hand or from a bench rest. Off hand shooters will compete separately from bench rest shooters.

25 yard Pistol Target, Open Class. Use any optics you want.
Use the 100 yd Iron Sight Target
See Attachment
Take five shots at the bullseye. Score your target. Target may be shot off hand or from a bench rest. Off hand shooters will compete separately from bench rest shooters.

Can you clarify the 50 yd scoped. It says 3 shots, but then later one. It also says scores start with 12, but the scores on the target are 10, 9, 8, etc. I would assume one shot on each of the hostage pairs (9 total shots) then score as printed?

We have shot this before. The bullseye target takes 3 shots. The rest is a bad guy/hostage type of target. One shot at each bad guy/hostage. I think if your shot hits the hostage (the one in front) you have to subtract from your overall score. Surfnshoot will chime in soon to clarify the 50yd scoped target rules. I'm not sure my memory of it is 100% correct, but close.

Shot the 100yd scoped target again today. A little windy again with occasional calm periods. Shot the .17HMR and .22WMR rifles. The .17HMR still suffered from the wind but the .22WMR was less affected. Shot my Marlin 925M with a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40MM BDC. Very happy with the results given the low magnification of that scope shooting @ 100yds. Score was 55. The .22WMR rounds make nice holes in the target. The shot in the 9 ring was the last of the 5 and I pulled it trying to beat the wind.

Both targets with scoped savage MK-II .22lr. Shot at Project 2000 (P2K) in El Cajon CA on their 100 yard indoor range. Yeah no wind, no rain no cold no heat good light...no excuses.

50 yard was a lot of fun, but the hostages didn't fair too well. Not sure if I should have tried to run a score on the hostage section?

It's nuts really. I had heard they were accurate but I'm not an expert shooter so I'm very pleased to say the least :)
Does your precision trainer accept the barrel swaps?
Thanks!

Yeah so eventially I may get a barrel

Not sure if I scored this right. If it rips the paper into higher point section it counts, correct? If not I need to deduct two points.

I do encourage meeting up with other match shooters. Any rimfire firearm is eligible. Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against a tree is acceptable. Using a rest in which the Rifle/Pistol can be locked down is verboten.

When I get a chance to get to the range (might not be until the 28th) I'll shoot a target but I won't provide much competition. My .22 is a CMMG upper with irons and it hasn't (read: I haven't) been terribly accurate. Regardless, I will give it the old college try.

50 yard scoped. Nothing to brag about, a 4x barska makes a fine bunny scope but sucks for precision. I should have a nice vortex on the gun but the vendor sent me the center fire version not the rimfire so hopefully I get the replacement prior to end of the month so I can try again. http://img.tapatalk.com/4c5e1813-060f-59e2.jpg

Crackerman: Nice shooting with a 4X scope, What Vortex did you order?

SurfNShoot: Excellent with the Automatch ammo. My CZ UL likes the Aguila Pistol Match ammo ($30/500 from CheaperThanDirt.com) almost as much as the Wolf Match Target.

I have been having lots of back problems this month so doubt I will post any targets, first time in over 2 years. Its been a chore just to get out of bed everyday. I'm having Rimfire withdrawals.:taz::taz:

Not bad for 4x scope!

SurfNshoot, I tried Wolf MT and it liked Automatch better! We'll see after it's more seasoned, rifle is new.

Get well soon Izzy!

Izzy I ordered the cross fire 2 2-7x. The gun is still a huntin gun a heart and that is a perfect bunny and ground squirrel magnification. I have another 10/22 on layaway to turn into an ultimate. I like precision shooting but with a new baby center fire range travel and match ammo is not gonna happen for a while. So it's clays and rim fire for a while

It is correct. Maybe I should have shot it first to see how dificult it is but aim small miss small. I'll try it tomorrow. I've never really done the pistol shooting but I think I'll take advantage of the indoor shooting range accross the street from my work.

So all you rimfire afficanados just a quick note to let you know I will be running the matches from Sept thru Nov to give surNshoot a much deserved break. Cudos to him for taking the time to do it.

At the same time I would like to invite all of you to consider running these matches. It would be nice to have 3-4 folks ( surfNshoot, myself and 1 or 2 others) who could run the match for 2 or even 3 months at a time. Any help would be appreciated and hey, you might enjoy doing it. I would always (at least until I'm on the wrong side of the grass) be available to help with targets when needed. I've saved a ton of em.

For anyone interested drop a PM to me and surfNshoot.
