Good Luck. I'm done until next Monday weather permitting. I shot 10-25Yd targets today and the first one was the best. First two shots in the same hole then pulled the third. Just got worse as I continued. Most were 27s with a couple of 26s.

Hiked into my shooting range yesterday; still a foot of snow on the range itself and more on the road up to it (on the way out I found two trucks stuck on the road - apparently driven by optimists).

Did get a few rounds off with the new Ruger Mark III target pistol, but no targets coming from up here in the mountains for a while (unless I start posting airgun targets).

Went shooting with Surf-n-shoot today and this will probably be the last match for my trusty Mossberg M44 and my untrustworthy Savage TR
25 Yards my ole Mossberg shined as usual with a perfect score even though I accidentially shot 5 shots insted of 3. As you can see it didnt make a difference as all shots hit in the white. My ole Mossberg is being retired to the comfort of my gun safe only to be taken out, oiled, and occasional outtings so the boys in my son's Boy Scout troop can qualify for their marksmanship badge.

Dont worry though Izzy and SnS I have a CMP Kimber on order so Im sure I can compete with the both of you. :43:

Next up is my Savage. Now my Savage is within MOA for a .22 but it isnt up to my demanding requirements so I am replacing it with a CZ varmint I am picking up this week. Unfortunately the scope I ordered ened up being out of stock so I will have to wait till next month to try it out. Here is my 50 yard shots.

Nice shootin'!
I hope I can get out before the end of the month. I just did a little free float clean up of my CZ American stock which was a tad tight on the muzzle end, and replaced the original trigger spring with an Ace Hardware #144 spring. Can't wait to see how it works now!

Yeah DHW
I got a DIP trigger kit, picatinny rail, tps rings, and a SS16X scope for it
I still have to send the bolt out to get a new knob and order a McM stock for it.
its going to be my new tactical trainer till CMP releases the last of their 40x's

Here are my targets for the month. Took 3 times out shooting to get it but I'm happy. I've included a pic of my new Iron site gun of choice. The Kimber 82g. Got it sighted in today. I just need to practice with it a bit and its gonna be awesome.

SurfNshoot, very, very nice shooting. Guess all we can hope for this month is a tie after those targets. Competition is getting tighter every month. Nice rifle, did you shoot all three ranges with the Kimber and irons. 100 yd target is really great as well as the 25. What ammo did you use. Congrats again.

Damn you SnS cleared 100
well some time this week Im going to take out my CZ and see if I can match you
damned nice Kimber
mine is in the order line at CMP and who knows when Ill get it
apparently any time I order from them its backlogged
Izzy the 25 yard target SnS shot was with his Mossberg last week
I was there to see it
from what he told me all he did with his Kimber was zero it and get used to the single shot function

Izzy,

No I used my Savage TR for the 50 and 100 yard and my mossberg for the for the 25. The deal for me to get that kind of group is I must never lose my site picture so I keep it on the exact same spot on th target every time. Since the new rifle is a single shot I was having to pick my cheek up off the rifle, pull a bullet out of box and then sit back down on the rifle. Once I've practiced doing it without looking I'm gonna do real well with this kimber though. I think next month I may put up an Iron site competition to 50 and 100 yards. what do yout think? Oh and I used SK standard plus for all those targets.

Holy cow. Nice shooting there surfNshoot... (everyone else too! :))

I haven't forgotten about you all! I finally got out to the range today, but spent the hours doing 50yd ammo testing with the TR rather than shooting at the January targets. Hopefully I can get back out there this week to try to look for a finish other than first. (haha!)

I might be crazy, but other than the ridiculously-priced Eley Club and Team ammo I sprung for, my TR seems to dig the copper-plated stuff from CCI and Federal. :o I will admit, that flat-nosed Eley Team stuff does punch really nifty little holes like a wadcutter in the paper! (But not at 25 cents a shot...) I did manage a few clover leafs here and there, but it's hard to tell if that was a fluke or the ammo! :D It's hard to really draw conclusions until I sit down and measure out the groupings though.

I never would have guessed 3 months ago that I'd be sitting here today with a caliper measuring bullet holes, of all things... what have we done?!

Hope to see more results soon from those nifty Kimber single-shot rifles you guys got... they seem pretty solid for the money!

Iron sights to 50 and 100, GREAT IDEA. It will make us all better shooters. I haven't been out for the last week, been fighting food poisoning. Can't get more than 5 feet from a bathroom. Feeling better today but don't know if I can chance getting out.

I finally got a chance to get out and shoot the January targets. First up is the 100 yard target:

http://i.imgur.com/ZLDD1.jpg

65 degrees and perfect, with no wind, Zastava Z5, Winchester 333 ammo, Simmons 3-9 x 32 AO scope. I thought I could see the first four shots go in and got a little shaky on the last one, but luckily it just nicked the center circle. :p

The 50 yard target proved to be more difficult because the tiny center dot was completely covered by the junction of the crosshairs with this scope. The best I could do was a 50. :(

http://i.imgur.com/D70s5.jpg

Looks like everybody is upgrading their equipment, so it's going to take big bucks to stay in the game. Well, not me: I can't see investing more in a .22 than I have in my centerfire rifles, and paying as much for rimfire ammo as it costs to reload the good stuff. Anyhow, one of these days ego 08 will show up again with his Volquartson and blow everybody away! Just kidding, I got outshot by a guy at the range using my own rifle and ammo, so I guess I can still squeeze some accuracy out by improving my skills, even with my current rig. :D

Great shooting on that 100yd target with that scope and HV ammo. Don't think you need to upgrade to stay in the game. I also have a Z5 and it's pretty darn accurate. Just a hair below my CZ. I really like shooting the Z5, it has a nice feel to it. One of the undiscovered .22 gems in my opinion and it cost half of what the CZ cost. The best thing I like about the Z5 is that it will shoot any ammo as well as any other. Not picky at all. It especially likes the Federal Automatch. :taz::taz::taz:

Yeah, Navyguy0023, 48 is very respectable on that target. That center circle is just under 0.25" on my printout, less than 1/2 MOA at 50 yards. I shot some more at 50 yards and couldn't top 46. usmcchet9296's 59 is way out there, and is going to stand unless somebody gets very lucky in the next couple of days!

Agreed, that's some good shooting. That target is not easy to get 15 shots in a row (more or less) consistently good. The 59 that usmcchet9296 posted will be a tough one to beat!

I was out at the range on Fri with my TR and it just wasn't meant to be... it was cold, foggy, and some light wind on and off -- and most importantly, just an off-day for me I think. Best I could muster was a pair of 37s on the 50yd target. It was just an inconsistent day for me. :(

I really did like the 50yd target this month though... it was very nice for immediate shot feedback... if you pegged the center, it was apparent since it'd black-out almost completely... if you hit black, you'd see nothing... if you hit a shot outside, you'd see the hole next to the target staring at you with the big fat ZERO. :chris:

Not enough time to get out to the 100yd range and it looks like rain is in the forecast for Sunday, so I might have to pass on this month. If I can hit the indoor range Sunday AM, I'll give the 25yd a go around! I need to sight-in a Marlin 795 anyhow... and my 15-22 seems to have developed a taste for Federal AutoMatch... :D

Ya'll counted me out so quickly after seeing USMCCHETS score. It's ok I was pretty worried myself. This wasn't easy beating it. Took 7 targets, 5 hours and a lot of correction. On top of that Lets just say the weather was not my friend today. I was basically laying in a puddle of water getting rained on but I was not giving up so easily. You can see from the targets wrinkled corners that it was pretty darn wet. To get this score I would shoot a target make some adjustments. Look again for trends in each target changing how I was shooting ever so slightly. Finally I was able to put it all together and produce 65pts. I have to say these monthly matches have taken my shooting to a level I never thought possible. The sad thing for the rest of us though is USMCCHET took his second target at 59pts with a brand new rifle that he has never shot before. Once he gets that rifle figured out we are all in a world of hurt.

dang... hardcore props to SnS for shooting in a puddle of water! :gunsmilie:

i happened to be looking at some unrelated stuff from the American Rimfire Association (ARA) yesterday... their 50yd target is a 25-bullseye sheet with each center about 1/2" in diameter. our target center bull for the 50yd this month is actually smaller at 0.25"

however, the ARA guys/gals only score the bull for full credit if the entire round is inside the center circle, i believe, which makes it a tad bit more challenging. if i'm not mistaken, they say a perfect ARA target has only been shot once in history (2500 points, each bull is worth 100 pts)... 2400 point targets in ARA competition have to be sent to the home office for score verification!

anyhow... some fun food for thought to keep things in perspective. :D

Look, Here's how I see it. I got off work, stumbled through the mine field of helping my son with his homework, and I had just got done putting in well over an hour and a half of time counting up everyone's scores, researching many sites and chosing targets to post for a match, and pretty much built up an entire new Feb. match to post. I wanted to double check the Jan. match to make sure I didn't make any mistakes in scoring, and see sNs has posted a Feb. match.

Whatever the intent of that post... I was pissed off and hurt! Fine! I got the message. Hard work appreciated little...My matches suck! So, I deleted all my work, and posted my resignatation.

Nobody spoke to me, PMed me, or suggested any changes to the matches! I've always been open to, and accepting of all corrective criticisms, suggestions, and ideas. I've been doing this for near a couple years now. Maybe it's time for someone else to step up to the plate and create these matches!

So, bottom line, SnS... no worries, I understand you meant no hard feelings, apology accepted!

But my resignation stands. Hope I'm not omitted from participating in any future matches.

I just want to say I had no corrective criticism to give you at all. I think you have run these matches like a champ and I thank you VERY much for it.

I posted a 50 and 100 yard iron site match only for the reason that I didn't want to ask you to manage more and I did not want to interfere with what you had going. I should have discussed it with you first to see if you wanted to include it in yours and I'm sorry for not doing that.

If there is any way I can get you to reconsider let me know. If not I'm sure one of us will step up to the plate and try to run it as well as you have for so long.

I'm really bummed about this guys and I'm sorry to the rest of the participants that shoot in this monthly match.

I understand your feelings completely but honestly you are the core of these matches, just won't be the same without you in the lead.

I know its a lot of work and I for one (and I am sure there are many others) appreciate all your time and effort to put these together.

Wow... what happened?! I sense drama.

I'll go back and get caught up in a bit... here's my 50 and 25 yd targets for this month, although they are nothing spectacular. Just didn't turn out so well this time around for me... :(

50 yds was a pair of 37 pts, as mentioned in my previous post (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showpost.php?p=5715194&postcount=43).
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=84150&d=1296546851http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=84151&d=1296546873

25 yds best I could muster tonight while trying out the Marlin 795 for the first time was a 25. I was shooting off a front beanbag with CCI MiniMag 40gr CPRN.

So if I'm reading this right... SnS posted 50 and 100 yd irons-only targets like was discussed earlier and dwh100 somehow took that as a sign that he needed to be replaced completely?!

Wow...

My understanding was that SnS et al. wanted to try a separate 50 and 100 yd effort with irons only... in parallel with the iron-25, scoped-50, scoped-100 like we've been doing.

For what it's worth, I hope you guys work this out... shooting these things has been a lot of fun and good excuses to sit outside for an afternoon at the range trying to make perfect holes in the paper. Especially since I'm somewhat of a newbie shooter! This has been awesome.

Thanks and hope to see you all again in Feb! :D

Well guys I've slept on this and really have a whole new perspective. I think the biggest issues here are no communication and the fact that I have really taken advantage of these monthly matches with no gratitude. I can't speak for anyone else but I realize that I've kind of treated DWH like the garbage man. That thankless service that we all just expect. DWH has been putting these matches on for 2 years now. Until this happened I personally had never sent him a PM saying thank you or giving any feedback of any kind. I have not even added him to my friend list. This was not just a service that Calguns offers, it’s a guy taking his own time to better our shooting skills and makes a fun path for it. For this I feel awful.

I still have hopes that DWH will reconsider however I'm going to let this sit for a few days to see if it can be ironed out. If DWH sticks to his decision (which I totally respect) I will temporarily step in to run this monthly match not because I want to take it over but because I owe it to you guys the shooters.

Great shooting this month guys. We will have a Feb match one way or another I just want to give this a little time to cool down in hopes to get it back the way it should be.

Regards
SnS

50mph wind would be...

1.45" at 25 yards
5.61" at 50 yards
21.31" at 100 yards

this is with my ammo though. will be a little less with yours.

Shot today out in my local U.S.Forest land range. Rifle was the CZ Ultralux with BRNO Target Sights (Peeps) using Federal AutoMatch. Seems I had a few fliers so may try some different (spelled better) ammo next time. The fliers couldn't possibly be due to my shooting skills?:taz:

Shot the 25 and 50 yd Iron targets and scored 46 on both (odd, huh?) As usual my first targets were the best ones. Too much wind for the 100yd iron target but looking forward to shooting this target as I have come to love shooting with the peeps.

Targets attached as when I put them directly into this post they are too small.

PS: Very happy to see the matches continuing, Thanks DWH!

Great shooting izzy. Did you have to readjust your sites for the 50 yard or did you hold over?

As I use an aperture sight I find it difficult to hold over/under on a target. I just aimed to the center of both the 25 and 50 yd targets. Looking at the targets the 50 yd was shooting about 1/4 to a 1/2" low. On the 50 yard target I just put 4 of them up and shot, never checked to see where the shots were impacting. Next time out I will adjust the sights up a couple of clicks. Love shooting the Peeps. I think I can shoot just as good as I do with a scope at least out to 50 yds. Thanks for the comment.

My eyes are not very good either. I wear progressive lense glasses and of course I cannot shoot while wearing them. I am lousy with iron sights but aperture sights (peeps) seem to be a lot different to my eyes than regular iron sights.

I use apertures front and rear and all I have to do is put the bull in the center of the front aperture and fire away. Its amazing how well I can shoot with these sights. I was using high magnification scopes but I get too much wiggle in the crosshairs to be effective, so I tried the apertures and a big, big difference.

Bottom line I don't think you need great eyesight to use apertures just have to center the bull and let her rip. The one thing is that you have to have the right size target when shooting. Need to have at least a little "white" showing around the bull when looking through the aperture.

If using a rear aperture and a front post it works best to zero with a 6 o'clock hold in order to get a good sight picture and the front post can't be too thick. I also have a Williams Receiver sight on another rifle (Zastava Z5)with a front post. I am not as good with that setup due to the thickness of the front post. Gotta do something about that.:taz::taz::taz:

Looks like I have a real Irons shooter here. I shocked myself with these 50 and 100 yard irons targets. Kimber 82g Rocks!!! I started out using a post front sight but switched to an aperture front sight. what a difference!!

It's really tough to score this 50 yard irons group. Feel free to correct my scoring on it.

I'm gonna keep trying on the 100 yard scoped. The wind picked up a little at the end of my session.

That is some phenominal shooting on that 50 yd iron target. Gotta love that front aperture, huh? It makes all the difference to me when shooting peeps. The target gets tough to score when you shoot one hole like that. Score looks right to me. Imagine posting a 60, now that would be tough to score. If I can't equal that with my CZ I'll be out looking for a Kimber. :taz::taz::taz:

Love the Aperture sights. I was really shocked with both those groups 50 and 100. I kinda want to put a scope on the kimber just to see how accurate it really is. I get a lot of conflicting info from others that own the 82g. even read that someone was grouping 3" at 25 yards. I can't really see how that is possible with this rifle though.

Shot my Mossberg at 25 and while its a winner most of the time with small targets like these it shows its age. Large peep and front sight post the target looks like a pin ***** at 25 yards. Sorry ole Mossberg but I cant wait to get my Kimber with multipul front sight incerts.

Shot again today. The 50 and 100 yard iron targets with the CZ and Wolf MT ammo. Did a little better on the 50 yd. Score was 51 or 52 but I'll settle for 51. The bullet holes look like .17 cal or smaller. 100 yd target score was 46. I had it going on the first three shots but then 2 flyers. We think (Me and Taz) that it was probably the shooter. Don't know if I can do better on the 50 yd but will keep at the 100 yd to try to clean it. (Fat chance). The Wolf Ammo seemed to help on both targets.

Can you guys post a pic of your front apertures? How big is the aperture? Are both apertures the same size?

My rear aperture is .050" and the front is about .375". At 100yards a 6" bullseye just fills the front aperture. For zeroing I use a 2" bullseye at 25 and 50 yds and a 3" bullseye (4" would be better) at 100yds. I would post pics but my camera will not take good photos closeup to show enough detail. I'll see if I can find a link to what my sights are and post that.

Also the thing is the rear aperture needs to be as small as possible for target work but still large enough so that you can see the entire front aperture through it. Then all that you need to do is center the target in the front aperture and shoot. Not necessary to focus on or center the rear aperture because the human eye will center the rear aperture automatically. Also the rear aperture is sometimes called a "Ghost Ring" because it appears like a circular haze to the eye. You will not believe how accurate these sights are. World classs competitive shooters use these type of sights due to their accuracy.

Try to find someone local to you that has this type of set up. Its hard to describe the sight picture but once you see it you will be amazed. The 100yd iron target we are shooting this month just looks like a really, really small dot in the front aperture but once centered you can shoot MOA no problem (if the gun and shooter are up to it). Well enough rambling.

Ok, here is a picture of the rear (pretty small hole, huh?) aperture and the front aperture (called a globe sight). On the front its the small black circle inside the sight hood. These are exactly the same as the sights on my CZ. One thing, the farther apart (long sight radius) the rear and front apertures are, the better the accuracy.

Thanks, thought I was gonna clean that 100yd iron target but UP JUMP THE DEVIL (and twice). I spent a lot of time today adjusting my sights till I finally got them really close. I was only moving the elevation a click or two at a time. Shot a lot of rounds to get it on at 100yds from a 50yd zero. The rear sight is removed. Near the front of the rear sight blade you just have to push it down with your thumb (may take a little force but don't use any tools) and pull rearward on the sight blade and it will come right out. Front sight hood and post are also removed and globe installed. Pretty easy actually and no permanent changes are made.

Not bad but I am almost at full right windage so I am going to have to shim my Kimber and re-zero.
The winds were up but I reshot at 100 with my CZ and got a 41. I just need a good no wind day and Im sure I can do better,

Well this is my final targets for this month. It looks like Im only going to take the 25 but considering I am shooting with 2 new rifles I can handle that
First is my new Kimber 82G
at 50 I scored a 48.... prolly could have done better and prolly should have but I overall Im happy with my score.

I just did a triggerjob on my CZ and Im almost sure it is now a 1LB trigger with almost 0 creep but like my last outting by the time I got to 100 the wind picked up and so did the cold. Shooting in the cold sucks *** but while my lower scored targets wont win the match I am really happy with the groupings. One inch at 100 yards in high winds isnt bad at all for a 22 and unlike my old Savage I have no cold bore issues.

Shot the 25yd and 50 yd iron sight targets today. 45 degrees with a 5-8 MPH wind at the range. Rifle was a Mossbert 44US using rear peep and front globe sight. Ammo was Aguila Match Target (Blue Box). First target is the 25 yd, Score 167. Second target is 50 yd, Score is 56.

I found the 25 yd target to be a real challenge, could barely see the bull in the peep sight. Good Choice DWH.

The 50 yd target gave a nearly perfect sight picture through the peep sights with the bull being just smaller than the peep. Another great target.

Hoping for nicer weather this month so more folks can post targets. Good luck to all.

Well, I am taking apart my 10/22 Fungun (tommygun kit for sale in the Classifieds), and using the receiver, putting a Clark 18.5" bull barrel, OEM trigger set up, an older laminated Ruger T stock, Tech Sights and a GI sling on it.

I got out this morning and shot one of each scoped target. In the last few months I have spent a little time working on the bedding, but have yet to see any positive results. I only had about 20 rounds of the 20gr ammunition and about 10 rounds of the 17 so it was just enough for sighting in and shooting a target. I left myself plenty of room for improvement! haha

iLawson: Nice shooting. Too bad .17HMR shooters have a 25 point reduction in their score on each target due to the inherent accuracy of that ammo. :taz::taz::taz: Just kidding. With a little more practice I think you are in the competition for best shooter.

Move that 100yd group up a little and that's in there with the best of em. What rifle and scope are you using? Good luck on your next shoot. Hope I don't have to go out and buy a .17HMR just to stay competitive.:banghead:

I hope this forces EVERYONE to have to go out and pick up a .17. THey're too much fun! I'm shooting a cz453 varmint with a Nikon 4-16x monarch scope. It's a sweet little gun that I've been tinkering with all winter. I devised a little tuner this afternoon that I need to do some more experimenting with. Preliminary results were shocking to say the least. This guns used to HATE (1" plus 50 yard groups) 17gr FMJ ammunition from CCI, but with the tuner I shot two consecutive 3/8" groups at 50 yards. Don't worry though, I won't be using it for our friendly little matches. It'll be my secret weapon when someone starts talkin money!

Ok went shooting at ASR yesterday (1/2 price on Thurdays!) so I could get some good dope on my new rifles and decided since I was there I would shoot the MRM targets just because. Now I wasnt trying to hard that day because getting the dope was priority but overall not too shabby. BTW thru irons some of these targets looked like pinheads DHW.

Please elaborate! Some?
One? Both? All three?
What is the minimum size outer diameter irons targets for the distances that would be visible to you for a decent sight picture? Is the 25yd, 50 yd, 100yd too small? Should the outer diameter be bigger? Your insight would be helpful!

50 was fine as you can see with my groups

25 you really only see the center black dot so at 25 the picture you see is about the size of a pinhead

at 100 the alternating black and white stripes make the target look like a blurry grey circle

this is especially true when its bright out as the white paper makes a big glare.

DHW its doable to shoot but for us older guys its just a little more difficult

Izzy43

I'll jump in here on the iron target sizes. As USMCCHET said the 50 yd is great. It is the right size (my opinion) and a solid bullseye gives the best sight picture. For the 25 yd I think the ideal size is a 2" to 2 1/2" solid bullseye. For 100 yd irons a 5" to 6" bullseye might be good. I am a little biased here because I shoot with aperture sights both front and rear and my ideal sight picture is a solid black target that is just a little smaller than the front aperture (I can change the aperture size to fit the target, usually). For regular iron sights I think these targets will also be good for a 6 o'clock hold sight picture.

USMCCHET: Those two 25 yd targets are just slightly above excellent. Nearly cleaned the left one. That target is, as you said, like shooting at a pin head with irons so that is just subperb shooting.

LOL sorry
at 100 a solid would be better
with a scope it no problem to see it but with irons its just a greyish blur

I may try colored paper at 100 to see if the contrast would work better to see it if thats OK

I shot the 25 and 50 yard open sights today. I have to agree on the 25 yard being hard to see. I made the mistake of posting a couple targets adjacent to each other and on one string I shot the bottom L and R targets when I should have been shooting the center L and R. That being said after swapping front inserts around I found that I was able to shoot some decent groups on them. The 50 yard was fine though giving a clear picture like the other guys said. I should have brought more of them with me as I shot several of them at 25 before deciding to shoot at 50 as well.

Only going to post my 50 yard targets for today. The wind picked up this afternoon so I have a lot of vertical stringing with the 100 yards targets.. Ran out of time and didn't get to shoot the 25 yard. Maybe next weekend if I have time to get out.

I was really bummed to see my savage thrown that flyer on the first shot (shot left to right, bottom to top). otherwise i would have done awesome. Oh well 131 ties me.

One would think scoped would outscore irons but no I tied myself. True the CZ isnt a match rifle like my Kimber but for some reason I generally shoot better with irons. I guess its because I cant see the target well I dont stress it as much. ;)

I am finding the same thing, in fact I haven't shot a scoped rifle in a couple of months. Seems with the peeps I shoot just as good and sometimes better than with a scope. Can't see my heart beat in the peeps like I do with the scope so I think I concentrate a little better.

Went shooting today at ASR and well some targets I did great others I would have done great if I shot all the shots that were required but I was hurried because the LA county Sheriff SWAT team shoots on the rifle range in the afternoon on the 2nd thursday of each month and we needed to leave by 1 and I only shot 2 shots per target for 50 irons. Im pissed I missed that because as you can see my Kimber is a tack driver at 50.

I've been planning to do this for a few months and finally got it done today.
I'm shooting 50 yards with an Izmash CM-2 with aperture sights front and rear. I was getting good groups last time out but I decided to clean the bore a few weeks ago and today I couldn't get very good groups... maybe I will quit cleaning it!!

This is my first time entering the rimfire match, let me know if there is something I am missing on my score sheet:

Flyin Brian: Nice shooting. As SnS said don't clean them barrels until accuracy falls off. Doesn't hurt to clean the chamber though, must the first inch or so. Welcome to the matches, nicely run by dwh100. Nothing missing from your target by the way. Only us old guys forget to shoot enough rounds or shoot too many or forget to put the score on it.

Thanks for welcoming me aboard. I hope I can shoot these each month and improve my limited skillz. This is my first .22 and I can see why everyone says to get one, they really are a lot of fun and also a good challenge.

I would like to get some different apertures for my sights, I plan on doing that in the next few weeks. I bought this Izmash at an auction and it did not come with any accessories, but it was in perfect condition and looks like it was new so I can't complain. I saw a set of apertures that are small plexiglass discs with various sized holes in them, does anyone here use these?

I have been using 3 brands of ammo: Aguila, Wolf Match and Lapua high velocity. Is there any other brand or type I should try? I spoke with someone at the range yesterday who mentioned the subsonic ammo is good but I've never tried it.

Here's a pic of my .22 along with one of his ancestors ;)

If you are using Wolf Match then you are using subsonic, also called standard velocity. Which Aquila are you using. The Aguila Match Rifle, Match Target and Match Pistol are all subsonic.

Those clear front apertures I am using in my BRNO Target Sights on my CZ Ultralux and I like them. Gives a good sight picture for me.

The Aguila I am using is the Match Rifle. I had no idea the subsonic is the norm, I guess it's all in the advertising ;)

Made it out to the range yesterday. Shot the 50yd scoped target, Score 134. I apologize for the condition of the target on the left side. It got wet from the carpet on the shooting bench. I think I scored it fairly. I decided to scope my CZ UltraLux to see what it could do. I put a Simmoms .22 Mag 3-9x32mm AO on her. I have higher magnification scopes on my other rifles and I am starting to believe that maybe high mag scopes are not all they are cracked up to be. The Simmons is bright and clear and a heck of a scope for the price.

Now for the real surprise. The ammo used was American Eagle 38 gr HV HollowPoints, copper washed. Bought two cases from Dunn's just for the heck of it. The CZ loves em.

I think prone, standing, sitting, bench, top of your pickup and one handed are all OK. Only rules are in the first post of this thread. Easy to follow unless you are old like me.

As far as online 3P competition you might want to check over on rimfirecentral.com, they may have them. They have a lot of ongoing online matches. Ours are a HOOT!:taz::taz::taz: Give em a try, will make you a better shooter.

Shot 100yd scoped yesterday with the UltraLux, 3-9x Simmons Scope and American Eagle 38 gr HV HP. Score was 40 or 41, couldn't really tell on one of the shots. So I'm sayin 40 and I'm stickin to it. I also shot two targets with Wolf MT and I can't figure out why this rifle shoots the cheaper stuff better but I ain't complaining. $1.60/50 is a lot better than $4.50/50. One target was a 1" group but 1/2" below the bullseye. Discovered mu scope had walked on the rail, bummer. Gonna try one more time before the month is over on this 100yd target. Oh yeah, dropped the order for the Kimber from CMP in the mail yesterday, hoped they haven't sold out.

Targets printed on April 1 but can't shoot until this Wednesday. First concentration will be on the 25yd/50yd irons and 50yd scoped. I was hoping the Kimber 82 would arrive before the end of the month for the 100yd targets but that looks very iffy. May just have to go with the CZ and Zastava for the long range.

Shot yesterday with two different rifles for the 50 yd iron targets and one rifle for the 100 yd. Little bit of wind that didn't seem to effect the shooting at 50 yds but at 100yds it was moving the POI around a little.

First targets are the 50 yd irons shot with the Mossberg 44US. Used two different Aguila ammos. Golden Eagle Match Target and Golden Eagle Match Pistol. Match Pistol score was 46 and the Match Target score was 45.

Second 50 yd targets (iron sights) were shot with the CZ UltraLux using Wolf Match Target ammo for both targets. Scores were 46 and 47.

Lastly I shot the 100yd iron target with the CZ and Wolf ammo. Score was 46. Above the X ring at 1 o'clock is two shots. Wind was left to right and shows in the POI of the rounds. I think I can do better on the 100 yd target.

Nothing annoying about pertinent questions.
You may shoot from any position. Most shoot from the bench!
Unless positions are noted in the initial match post, shoot from any position you prefer.
Shoot at your leisure, sight how you like, and post your best target.

Shot the 100 yd scoped target today. Shot the CZ and Mossberg but there was just too much wind and it was gusting so could not get anything close to a decent group/score. So switched to the Marlin 925M scope @ 25X to see if it could do better. Scored 2-x's so not too bad. Score on the target was 52. The 22WMR bullets make much nicer and cleaner holes. Guess its the extra velocity.

First string after taking some warmup shots was a 181 with RWS R50. Susequent target s fell off rapidly for some reason, and the next best string was SK standard plus with a 174. Shot the 50 yd scoped target today.... Just missed last months. Nice sunny day, wind at my back to slightly left. Shooting a Savage MkII BV with a Nikon 6-18x40 target scope. First string after taking some warmup shots was a 181 with RWS R50. Susequent target s fell off rapidly for some reason, and the next best string was SK standard plus with a 174. Got some work to do on my technique and maybe the rifle after that...

Nice shooting. How do you like the Nikon scope? Good clarity, repeatable adjustments, minimum focus? I have been considering one for my Savage BTVS. Have you used it at 100yds?

I like it. I'm not real high budget so this is about as much as I'd spend for a rimfire scope. Actually I'm kind of dissappointed with my set up. I had one of the first run 10/22 t's back in the mid 90's and it shot circles around this rifle.with just a sally world bushnell 4-12 and some cci std vels. 10 shots into a dime at 50. I haven't really done any 100 yard with this.one yet. I'm still trying to see what it will do at 50 now that I've narrowed down the ammo choices.

Shot the 25yd Irons today as a quickie after breakfast. Haven't shot too much open sights lately. 10 sighters to get reacquainted, then the next 5 for a score of 49. Shooting an old JC Higgins 44DL with the stock open sights, using CCI CB longs. This ammo isn't very accurate out of any of my 22's but its nice and quiet. The bullet/pellet trap makes more noise than the shot.
Actually, after looking at the picture I'm gonna have to call this a 48.

Went out this morning and shot the 50yard scoped. Best score was a 179, what magnification is everyone running on their scopes? I've got a fixed 4x and really think I could improve if I could see what I was aiming at a little better.

I use a 3-9x, 8.5-25x or 8-32x dependent on which rifle I am shooting. Shooting a 179 with a 4x on that target is pretty darn good. I find I shoot a little better @ 50yds on a medium magnification scope, say 14 or 16x. The higher magnification scopes really amplify the breathing and heart rate. That's just me, YMMV. Last time I shot that target I used a 3-9x.

I tore down and sold my10/22 Fungun tommygun kit, kept the receiver, got the T stock on Rimfirecentral, dropped in a Clark metal trigger group, Clark 18.5" fluted barrel, and Tech Sights. It was my first time out with it. Seems to shoot ok. I will probably pillar bed it later, and will be putting a little white bead on the front post sight as the 50 yd target sight picture was crap with a black oxide finish sight on black target.

Thanx Izzy, I was pleased with that group. I had only taken 10 shots previously with the new barrel to adjust the sights. So that target was shot with the initial rounds 11 thru 15 with my new rifle set up. With a few tweeks I hope to get some groups even tighter.

If they get any tighter we'll have to scream "FOUL", he only shot one bullet. Seriously that's great to put a rifle together and have it shoot that good first time out. Don't fiddle with it too much, the groups might get looser.:taz::taz::taz:

Almost forgot, what ammo?

I'm going out tomorrow to try again. I want to get the torgue settings correct on my CZ American after doing some trigger work and free floating it. On Monday it shot well, but seemed to send more fliers than it had in the past. I had a real good 50yd scoped target going, but in the last 10 shots had 4 "0"s

Went to the range again today.
Tried the CZ again today, but I think I might need to put a pressure pad at the tip of the stock as it was sending fliers every so often at all the different torques I tried.
However, the Ruger kicked butt today. I put a little dab of whiteout on top of the front post and that helped with the sight picture quite a bit. Shot 3 targets at 50yds irons and this is the best:
score 52 (amended after I learned how to add)

I know what you mean.... The hooded sweatshirt that works great for that very reason, has a decidedly unibomber look to it....not the greatest choice of style for the gun range.

I may have done better if the hot brass from the next lane wasn't hitting me in the neck.

At the range where I shoot we politely tell the shooter that his/her brass is flying our way. If that doesn't work its off to the range manager and he then informs them to do something to prevent the brass from hitting another shooter. If it continues, the shooter is invited to leave (think bounced from) the range. After all safety is key at any range.

Are these friendly competitions throughout the whole month (you can submit your score from 1st-last day of month)? Also, what happens if there's a tie  For example, two shooters got 50/50 or 200/200.

I don't run the matches but yes, they are friendly competitions throughout the month. Shoot as many targets and post as many as you want. Be sure to post the target and annotate it as per the first post in this thread. If there's a tie then both shooters win and get the same bragging rights. There are no tie breakers or prizes. It is just a fun match.

Well, I shot the 100 yard scoped target today for 10 targets with 5 different ammo choices. First time testing this gun at 100 yards after thoroughly testing ammo at 50 yards. Normally I wouldn't have bothered with the scores, but this was a good opportunity for seeing how the ammos performed under a scoring situation.
After taking 10 shots to dope, then another ten for grouping, it was time for two targets of each ammo. RWS Rifle Match produced the best score for my day at 58. Federal UM22 produced two scores of 54. Low for the day was 43 with Eley Match EPS. This was shot using my Savage MkII BV with a Nikon 6-18x40 target scope.

I went out on Fri. My 10/22 did really well. I'm shocked. My hundred yard targets are pretty bad. The wind picked up. I had a great target going on 50 scoped till a guy with a 300 win mag and brake took his shot. Yes I totally flinched!!! it's the one with a score of 180. If I could have just put it in the black ring it would have been a 188. I'm still happy with the 186 though. Also happy with my 50 yard Irons. Thought it was pretty good for shooting off my range bag.

Hi,

50 yd irons and 100yd target link isn't working, at least for me. I did find the targets (I think) by going to the website. 1000yd reduced for mini Palma and 50 yd NRA. Are these the correct targets? Sorry if I'm just inept or my computer is throwing up. Thanks once again for running the matches. Oh Yeah, the Kimber 82G is delivered tomorrow. Maybe some smaller groups in my future. BTW it's getting hard to not be redundant with some of these targets, so if you have some links to new targets that will work for some of the specifics sizes that some of you guys want, please send me a PM. I'm running out of sources, and it's getting to be chore to find decent targets, especially for irons. Did I say it's getting to be a chore!!!! I see my tenure as match master waning!
