I just picked up my Saiga AK47 7.62x39. This is my 1st AK. I was wondering if I should clean it before shooting it for the very first time. And if I do clean, how much cleaning?? Appreaciate any feedback. Thanks.

I shot my last two AK patterns uncleaned...Worked.

Clean it like you'd normally clean a gun. Shouldn't be very filthy, so you shouldn't need to do much(kinda self explanatory). Clean it like you would any other gun.

Wipe bore with oil. Lube rails. Shoot.

Be careful of the packaging that your Saiga comes in. That stuff is supposed to be pretty toxic.

Just drive 65-80 mph to your local range and shoot it. That should clean it pretty well. Worked for me.

Thanks. Went this route. Can't wait to shoot it this weekend.

Clean? Dude, I've shot my AKs totally dry and caked in carbon.

Seriously, don't stress it about cleaning and lubing your Saiga. This is not a match grade precision AR, this is an AK.

Throw some dirt into the action and go to town.

Only thing you need to be sure of is bringing enough ammo.

How do you clean it??

1. Make sure gun is unloaded and pointed n safe direction.

2. Load mag with ammo

3. Load mag into gun

4. Safety off and charge handle racked

5. Point at intended target

6. Pull trigger until mag is empty.

7. Repeat until satisfy or out of ammo...

Lot of preservative on a new saiga. Gets all over your hand if you don't remove it.
Hot boiling water rinse for all metal parts. Warm water with some detergent for plastic.
