Just remember its a converted saiga, but done by a company that is known as one of the higher end builders.

Nothing you couldnt do on your own, especially since its a bolt on gas block/FSB, not a pressed.

Yea I'm sitting down now researching making a check list for all the parts and doing a cost difference...I wouldn't mind replicating it ill post the cost here in awhile

Here's my converted Saiga as a comparison. Obviously the other gas block looks better but other than that and the railed gas tube, FH, and the welded receiver holes, it's the same.

Mine cost around $700 otd.

I shot this 5.45 today for the first time and I really love it. Shot it side by side with my M4gery and I like the Ak better. Even though the AR is around 3 times as accurate... hitting the steel at 100 yards with the AK was more fun! (and cheaper)

I'd really like to get one of those gas blocks so I can cut my AK barrel down to 14.5 they also make a pinned gas block now.

Rifle Dynamics are a great group of people, very responsive and polite in the correspondence I had with them. Unfortunately, I do not like the gas block they use. Aesthetically, it looks darn purty on an AK, but you have to file down the front post to zero it. There's no going back if you fudge that up, you have to buy a new front post... not a big deal I guess, but it kills the deal for me. I hope they correct that one day. Otherwise, their work is superb and well regarded. And you could always just run an optic anyway.

It's a collection of parts - if you start with a good rifle to begin with (or good parts kit) this would be easy to replicate.

I took my M70B2 build further than this into the "modernized" (tactical is a daft label) category but used many of the same parts. The only one I can't readily identify is the flash hider (which you can't have unless you go bullet button and use a 10/30 mag for the "look" if that what floats your boat).

* Magpul adjustable stock
* Some type of AR15 commercial buffer adapter, I don't think they use VLTOR, too pricey
* US Palm Battlegrip
* Ordinary AK74 lower polymer handguard
* Ultimak gas tube, probably the M1B
* Venom Tactical Bolton gas block/front sight
* Funky flash-hider, source unknown
UPDATE: Battlecomp flash suppressing muzzle brake

A partial AK74 parts "kit" or just a heap of the bare essential parts will get you there for under $1000.

You don't necessarily have to file down the front post, height is going to be build dependent. I'm assuming you had it screwed all the way down (flat bladed screwdriver) and ran out of adjustment?

In my case, it was too low and had to be turned out until it lined up before locking it down with thread lock and doing my fine tuning from the rear sight (Tech-Sights AK200Y). A front blade with a white stripe or even a tritium insert can be had from Rifle Dynamics. They will install it for $15 (the tritium insert costs $50, white stripe is $25).

Looks interesting, also agree nothing you can do yourself just have to wait on parts!

Just got reply for a quote on the 702 from RD price is kinda hefty but the wait is really hefty I have no patients to wait almost a year for something I paid for already..The ten day wait is long enough..So it looks like ill be building my own, now i got to hunt down a Saiga

I believe RifleGear, Parallax Tactical, and Atlantic Firearms all have the Saigas with the AK fore-end and not the normal Saiga one. Please post a build thread or pics, I've been pondering a similar build.

Nice! I'm considering building my own AK from a parts kit and adding what I want as it's being built up. Been browsing 69Mach1's threads endlessly.

I've been thinking about building an AR stocked AK for myself. I'll be making my own side folding AR stock adapter that will work with my side folding trunnion. I want to have the capability to pop the stock pin and slap on the original triangle folder anytime I choose.

I just checked with Jim Fuller awhile ago and he mentioned that he has pretty much never been busier than now... In case you change your mind, they do excellent work.

Best of success for your project - hope you'll find that Saiga soon and get it under way.
Atlantic (http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=1096&virtuemart_category_id=23) has them, but they are $430.

Hadn't checked on prices in awhile - ouch!

Cheers.

I know some people dont like the modern look on the AK, but I do think that the RD AK is done tastefully.

Good luck with the project,,,, Defintely want to do a similar project in the future.
