View Full Version : Most desirable off list handguns?

Currently I'm happily living in Nevada, but my work situation has me keeping an eye out for other opportunities. Unfortunately my skills and experience mean that my best bet for a good salary would be to return to California if my current position should end. This has me thinking about off-list handguns. If I had to move back then I'd need to get the good stuff before I do. I know to gather up all the pre-lock S&W revolvers I can at 49 state prices. I'd also like a Kel Tec PF9 which I believe is off list.

What do you think are the most desirable handguns that I would want to bring with me? I'm not talking about rare or exotic stuff. Just normal guns that aren't on the roster. I don't think I'll actually move back to CA, but if I did I don't want to be saying "I should have gotten one of those before I moved back".

XDMs, H&K's, off-roster 1911s, etc.

Bring back a bunch of 1911 frames too lol

Prelock, pinned barrel S&W revolvers that are in the age window where they are not yet C&R and therefore subject to the roster.

Glock Gen 4's

I have been wanting a pf9 for a while but no one out here (so cal) seems to SSE for them.

I say 1911's, probably get the most for your money. Most places do SSE for XDM and Gen 4 Glocks, so they are pretty easy to get a hold of.

Having made the move myself somewhat recently, I'm certainly glad I purchased an HK 45 and HK P30 prior to leaving.

You definitely don't want to be a straw buyer for people, but if you were to buy a Ruger LCP and then decided you didn't want it later, they seem to sell for well over retail here in CA.

Not as popular as some, but I've noticed a few people looking for the FN FNX pistols recently, not sure if anyone SSE's them.

Kimber Solo.

And if they're you're fancy, Gen 4 Glocks. I'd focus on guns that apparently never will make the roster in its current form.

Well, I buy pre-lock Smiths whenever I see one at a good price already. But you guys have given me some ideas. I figure as long as I'm growing my collection I should do it with the roster in mind, just in case. Glock gen 4 sounds interesting.

".... Glock gen 4 sounds interesting."

Lipseys (Glock distributor) recently did a run of Flat Dark Earth Gen3's and Gen4's and they sold out quickly. Rumor has it they are planning to do a second batch in the near future. I was lucky to find an FDE Gen4 17 and I'm digging it.

If you would happen to buy an SR1911 and an LCP and not shoot them and bring them back to CA and then just so happen to want to sell them to me, then I wouldn't complain.

Sig P210s, high quality 1911 frames, and various rare HK squeeze cockers. Everything else can be converted with relative ease.

Sa xdm's and gen4 glocks are hot sellers. Those two esp the xdm45's are hard to keep in stock. Buy a whole lot of mags too and convert to 10rds or keep as rebuilds just in case.

I see no point in the PF9 now that the LC9 is on the roster.
CZ P07 Duty
XDs-45
Sig P939
Steyr M9-A1 or S9-A1
Kel-tec PMR-30

I don't see much good in buying something to sell for a small profit. The time and hasle would be better spent doing something more profitable, like working.

Sig 938 is another one, particularly if you will live in a part of California that allows CCW.

I see two of you mention the Ruger 1911. Just so you know, we can't get them here either. I don't know where they go but I haven't seen one at any of the local shops and my regular dealer says he's never seen one.

I'm not looking for guns to sell, just guns I won't regret not having bought for myself. Right now I'm not in a hurry for a lot of guns I would like, but if my situation changes I'm not going to suddenly be able to acquire them all.

Good point on the PF9 though. A good alternative is available.

The PMR-30 is neat, but would it be as neat with a 10 round magazine?
