On memorial day a few friends and i went shooting to celebrate a new baby girl going our lives. We took about 40 different guns and 6000 rounds of ammo. Near the end of the day we found ourselves dumping ammo just to get it out of the truck. We took our shot timer and i wanted to see how fast i could unload 10rds from my glock 34. I have done a lot of trigger polishing and well every place metal touches. My first time was 2.23 but i thought i could get faster. I did my fastest time was 1.85 sec. to empty the mag. Anyone have times for something like this? Any thoughts? Can i get faster?

Have you worked on learning the trigger reset point for your GLOCK? It is far shorter than releasing the trigger completely. 1.85 is pretty respectable in any case.

Faster and actually hit something or just unload in the general direction of the target?

Anything under 2.5 sec when you are doing a Bill Drill (from concealment) is pretty darn good.

Please don't waste ammo. Actually try to hit something. It is ranges like these that I try to avoid.

Then again it is your money :)

i really hadn't put much thought into it. i just kinda did if for fun. i wasn't letting it all the way out but thats not to say that i could have gone shorter.

So the next time you go out shooting with your GLOCK, take a shot but keep the trigger pulled all of the way back. Then slowly let the trigger out until you feel a click. That is your reset point and as far as you need to let the trigger out to start your next shot.

Practice that drill until you can do it quickly while practicing double taps.

Then use that knowledge to impress your friends! :43:

And that's what we in the industry refer to a "Ballistic Masturbation". It doesn't do you any good, but it feels good to do it.

Now do that same exercise with a target and goal....then you're doing something beneficial. And any extra ammo you don't want......don't waste it, unless you're wealthy, if you are I'm up for adoption .

I've only dumped ammo like that a few times. I've never timed it. Got every shot in the target, though.

Unload 10 rounds in a general direction of a target, I don't know exactly, but just under or just over two seconds. HD scenario, two rounds center mass and one to the head in under a second at the distance of 15ft.

If i knew where u were shootin, i would of tagged along just so i could shovel up ur brass. It must be nice to have lotsa mula to do ammo dumping like you fellas do. The only ammo dumpn i do is with 22lr bulk stuff. I shoot everything else with practice and to train. I want my lead to hit what im aiming for.

Depends on the firearm, and how far the target is... I usually don't waste ammo w/out target acquisition with "Zombies" popping up everywhere. :)

It wasnt 10 rounds but I did 6 on a steel target from concealment at 7 yards in 2.28. It was 1.2 seconds from beep to first shot. And yes all 6 hit the target.

I'm with you on that one except on 1 caliber. my dad has a S&W 22A (22LR) handgun and if you hold it left handed and work the trigger with your right hand you can empty its 10 mag in about 1.5 seconds. it's fun and cheap to do and just aim in the general direction of the target.:D:cool2:

From my understanding, Rob Leatham says you need to "slap the trigger" to go fast and accurate. To consciously stop at the reset takes more time and effort than to slap the trigger. I don't do either cause I'm not that good :)

If you ran this on a shot timer, and not an iphone app, and it was from the first time to the last shot time (a shot timer only hears and records shots), ie, 2 seconds on the first shoot, 4 seconds on the last, so 10 shot in 2 seconds ( .2 splits). Yes, most USPSA Grand Masters can run splits down into the .14's. Jerry Mickulek 8 shots in one second, .125 splits.

These guys are fast. If you can do this, come back and post. Just shooting randomly into a dirt mound as fast as you can is useless.

Fast at some things, slow at others.

On the original subject, I haven't not shot at a target in 10 years, so this is not my sport.

Learn about trigger reset and how to exploit it. Not only will you be faster, you'll actually hit what you're aiming at when shooting full speed.

The less finger movement between pulls the less hand movement you have and the less you are pulled off target and the better you shoot.

A professional course will help with this. See the competition, action-shooting and training section on the main menu on Calguns. There will be ads for schools near you.

This website probably has a video on the subject in their libraries as well...http://firearms.atactv.com/ but you have to put in some effort to find what you are looking for. Site needs a keyword search feature. But the info in the videos is great.

I thought it was illegal to shoot into, over, or across a waterway in California?

And without a shot timer, you don't know how fast is fast anyway....

That's why Ben Stoeger won the USPSA 2011 Production Nationals hands down. And the first time it was won ever running a Beretta.

If it is, somebody might want to have a talk with the Kingsburg Gun Club. About seven of the trap houses shoot out into water:

Also, I didn't mention how fast I shot specifically because I didn't have a shot timer. I just posted a video of me shooting fast since the OP asked.
