Is an AR (or any rifle) still registered to you, if you sell it back to the FFL dealer/gun store?

Rifles aren't registered. That paperwork you filled out when you purcahsed it was just a backgroun check. Handguns are the ones that get registered here in california. I wouldn't sell a rifle to a gunshop though. They're going to give you such a low offer. You'll make get alot more money if you sell it here in the marketplace.

Long guns aren't registered. Once they start doing registration, it'll be registered to the new owner when you transfer it(in your case, the FFL). But that's not an issue till 2014 like R.Fisher pointed out, assuming some court case doesn't get it thrown out before then.

Sell it on the market place you should get a lot more than what any ffl can offer.

I want to add to his question......

In 2014, are they just going to register the lowers? Or are the uppers going to have to be registered to?

Uppers aren't serialized, and aren't considered a firearm so I am not sure how they'd be registered.

AR uppers usually don't have serial #'s. So unless I missed something only the lowers will be registered. Like on RAW rifles now, the lower is registered and the upper is just a part.

Going to have to start a new lower project pretty soon then. Would be my first, have been researching.
