I recently purchased the RedxArms SS 7.62x39. I was looking for another project and figured why the hell not. Should make for a good plinker. The people at Redx are really nice and the upper was in stock and shipped quickly. The Muzzle break is slightly off color from the Stainless barrel. Could possibly be two different grades of stainless? Or maybe the muzzle break is aluminum? The free float handguard mounting/trim ring has a bad anodizing job and looks like a faded purplish black color. The barrel is very nice. Rifling looks very clean. I ended up buying a Chrome BCG with black bolt from Model1Sales since RedX was out. I mounted the upper on a tactical machining lower with a standard lower parts kit and right now just using the cheap standard issue buttstock. The whole idea was to build a cheap gun and shoot cheap ammo in something that actually works. I installed the Wolff HP Spring and the Galati enhanced firing pin. I'm still waiting for a scope to arrive and the Magazines from ASC.

So today I went out to the desert, I live in Palm Desert so literally my backyard, loaded up a 6.8 magazine with 5 rounds at a time and squeezed off about 100 rounds. The gun worked great! I'm surprised how well 5 rounds at a time cycled through a 6.8 mag. Golden Tiger ammo is a joke. The primers are either junk or they forgot to drop gunpowder in the shell. Don't buy it. The Tula and Wolf ammo cycled flawlessly without any misfires.

All and all it's a pretty fun setup. It'll shoot cheap ammo that is readily available. Definitely not a bummer of a gun that it's made out to be.

If the scope arrives and the 10rd mags I'll go our and pull off another 500 or so rounds and update this post.

Funny, I had similar issues with Golden Tiger. The AK guys love it and when I had my SKS for a short while the GT ran fine. Unfortunately I have another half case on the way.

Ya the Golden Tiger is pretty lame in the AR. I should have taken some pictures of the primers. The firing pin was definitely putting a seriously deep dent in the primers not sure why it wasn't igniting.

Same here. I tossed two rounds. DEEP hits.

Four Loko - I just looked at your FS ad. I'll bet that most of your problem is you're not getting enough gas down the gas tube with it being tilted. The holes probably aren't completely lined up. Try a different gas block and you'll probably have a different experience with your gun.

Already had that done. Sad result:

Ok, back with an update. It might have taken a little longer than 5 minutes but it took someone who knew their stuff very little time to get the upper in working order. That someone was Harrison over at http://www.ar15performance.com/ Yes this is a plug for them even though it seems they're swamped with business and suffering from the same supply issues other builders are.

In any case, I sent an email explaining the situation and that the only part of the upper that "had his name on it" was the barrel. His first reply was to send the thing in and if I paid for return shipping he would fix it free of charge. I was amazed and excited. A little three day UPS trip to their shop and THE SAME DAY I get an email back from him telling me what was wrong, how he fixed it and that it was in working order and tested with a variety of ammo.

Long story short, the "experienced builder" who put this thing together installed the front A2 sight so that it was covering a part of the gas port. "Messed up gas port" was the last diagnosis I got after having some helpful forum members play with the upper at the range. Now I can't wait to get it back and deplete some of the ammo I've been sitting here staring at.
