Whats going on guys, im very new here and I 've just put my first handgun in jail, got 9 days to go. I'm looking for ways to pass the time so im looking for suggestion on where to get 9mm rounds for a good deal. Seeing how this is my first handgun I don't even Realy know what a good deal is. I see guys selling reloads on here but I'm not lookin to wait 3 months to get it. And suggestions would be awesome.

Start at Walmart. Get the Federal 50 round packs for about $11 or the Winchester 100 pack for double that.

Walmart ammo is the "baseline". If you find something online for cheaper, it's a good deal, if it's more expensive, you might as well get Walmart Federal.

That's my opinion anyway.

Ya I heard of walmart I'm in Redwood city so te closest one is about 30 minutes away so that's going to be my first/last option. Unfortunately it's in the opposite direction of Jackson arms where my guns locked up.

Agree with lead waster, check Walmart. They have federal value packs, 100 for $20. If you find it in stock get as much as you can, they go fast.

I'm not a fan of Walmart so I get my ammo elsewhere :) Usually the cheapest 9mm will be the 115 grain bullet. The two other common weights are 124 grain & 147. $10 for a box is excellent for me. I think I saw CCI Blazer brass or aluminum for $12-13 at Turners. I like the $10-13 range. You may want to look for reputable reloaders for cheap plinking ammo. Miwall, LAX, Ammo Bros, etc. I just remember from Miwall I got 500 rounds for $90? But that was before tax so more like $95-100.

Being a fellow Redwood City guy, there is nothing close to us for cheap Ammo except Big 5.

I've had really good luck with Midway Sellier & Bellot 9mm 115grain FMJ.
Midway has them in boxes of 50 for $12.49.

Really clean ammo and I have had no issues at all with over 1,000 in two XD9s

Good luck . . .

Walmart in Mountain view (12 miles away from RWC) has ammo. I work in RWC and live in Mountain view, and I have never had any luck getting ammo in RWC.

+1 on the Blazer Brass from Palmetto. With the free shipping and no tax, this comes out to a better deal than the Federal or Winchester 9mm at Walmart. Plus, it gets delivered right to your door!

Agreed here too, I get my .22lr and 9mm from here... Great prices, no tax, no standing in line... All you have to do is forecast your ammo usage...

We buy in bulk either at gun shows(going tomorrow) or online(I think hubby does bulkammo.com?). I plan on getting 3k rounds tomorrow. I bought 2k rounds a month ago and am down to about 600. I purchased my first gun last month(XD9 sub) and my second on Wednesday(Sig P239 9mm). Bill is now wishing he would have not encouraged me quite so much.... LOL Also awaiting my CCW as I already know I can pass the Course of Fire, I just have to wait for them to clear me.

Where is there a gun show tomorrow? bay area?

Reloads from Serge, (Bulletman_911?) here on the commercial forum are good, but if you want factory ammo, Winchester White Box is available from www.sgammo.com usually for $199.00 per 1k, a very good price.

Vallejo this Sat & Sun.

Another at the Cow Palace at the end of June (23/24th).

My main online goto's for ammo are like many others; SGAmmo, PSA and Cabela's. Also Freedom Munitions for inexpensive (relatively) factory reloads has been good also.

Wal mart, big 5 etc. On average in southern cali I will pay $15 for a 50 pack of 9mm 115 gr. FMJ give or take a buck or 2 depending on brand. That's what you want for range ammo. Defense is a whole new ball game. You want some hydrashoks or some hollow points they are far better suited for HD than a standard FMJ. I recommend winchester PDx1 they run me about $25 for a pack of 20 they arent cheap but they are meant to defend your life so its worth a little extra. I prefer to buy local. Your spending just a couple bucks more to support your neighbor but to each his own.

Bullet_Man911. Just trying to help as his reloads are as good as any new target ammo I've ever bought.

I AVOID Big5 as they are ANTI-GUN in Orange, Ca.

I still can't figure out why ANYBODY goes to Big5.

If you're ever in Sacramento, River City Gun Exchange frequently
has good deals on 9mm. Picked up 10 boxes of PMC Bronze
115gr for $10.99/box (50 rounds). They also have Fiocchi 115gr
and Independence 124gr for $10.99 as well. They usually
have 3-5 brands in 9mm at this price point per month.

Also, has anyone had any experience buying in bulk from:
www.targetsportsusa.com
Good or bad if anyone has info on their buying experience.

+1 on the reloads from Miwall. Ran through my first 500 without a single failure and was hooked.

The 115 gr such as Federal are great for the price, the 147 gr are my favorite for shooting but suddenly are more expensive, and the 124 gr reloads are a good middle ground that are kind on the wallet to allow more shooting...while "keeping things brass."

Shoot for ALMOST anything brass at as close to $10 per 50 as possible, then factor in gas, shipping, and/or convenience to find your sweet spot.

I say ALMOST because I have had repeated bad experiences with the UMC 250 round bulk packs.

Big 5 is way over priced. Since you are in Redwood City, take a trip to the Walmart in Alviso/Milpitas. Other than that, all the online sellers will have better deals. Serge aka bulletman_911 has one the best prices. Also, I believe a few members are doing a group buy. check the WTB/Services tab under the marketplace. Happy shootin

Cheap Mosins with no $55.00 transfer fees? That's the only thing gun related I have ever or will ever buy there.

Walmart is my friend... Sucks that the ones in Alameda/Contra Costa Counties don't sell ammo... American Canyon and/or Vacaville are the closest to the East Bay

If you just walk into Big 5 and buy I would agree. If you watch the weekly sales you can find occasional good deals. I enrolled to get their weekly sale via email and have bought .357 9mm and .22LR as cheaply as anywhere else. Just be sure it is on sale.

To the OP, welcome to the sport, it can become addicting! I would suggest you NOT run lead round nose through your gun. I have been told that Glocks in particular are not fond of LRN and the rifling gets quickly fouled.

Not a huge fan of Big 5 but I am in there on occasion. Got my Mossberg 590 at one several years ago and it was cheaper than most places 500a. As I said in an earlier post, watch for sales!
