Long story short, painted my Ruger green.

Long story long? I've always wanted a gun in OD green, there is something about that color that I drool over. So I decided I'd paint my P95. First off let me tell you other P95 owners who plan on taking apart your gun, DON'T. Unless you have any clue what you are doing. I thank goodness am a genius. No really though unless you've worked on guns before, I do not suggest you taking apart every piece, spring, pin on the weapon. Painted the gun with the Krylon Camo that every one loves which I too now love. Next is my shotgun.

Heres a couple of pictures. Tell me what you guys think...hate or love it.

EDIT:
I got a chance to take some better pictures, hope y'all like them.

Thanks! I can definitely see your desire for OD. Haha. I'm just getting started.

I was going to, but decided to let it blend in with the slide and match the trigger. Maybe I'll photoshop and give it a try.

I like it.
Nice pics, too!

Thank you kindly.

I too am partial to OD. I'm about to set up a large oven so I can do my own Cerakote. To this point I have 3, going on 4 guns in OD, but they were all done with Cerakot air-dry which is not a durable. Nice looking guns everybody!

Looks really good. I got mine in stainless because I thought the blued slide looked a little weird on the black frame. But if they had this color scheme from the factory I woulda bought it this way. Good job.

I have the same gun, really like it, it is an old friend. Normally I am not a fan of two tone guns but with the black slide, it just plain works. Mine is stainless, wouldn't look nearly as nice. Good work!

OP, that is very, very nice! Awesome craftsmanship.

If only you are nearer to me, I would have visited you and see if you can give my Kimber Custom II the same treatment! I honestly think that is the BEST compliment I can give you.

Wow that is nice!

Anyone know if I can find a thread here or where I can go to get info on painting my weapon? I would love to lay down some OD Green on my SU-16.. any advice or nudges in the right direction would be appreciated!

**Edit**

Well after I stopped being a lazy *** I did a search myself and realized its just spray paint?? Wouldnt that wear off after a bit due to rubbing and/or heat? Is there something to seal it with to make the color more permanant?

I think what you want is called Cerakote or Durakote. I agree, just using Krylon will probably not last too long.

Sexy. Though if you used rusto it would last longer than the gun.(jk) but all spray paint is water colors now adays.

Thank you and I myself wanted a car in this color, Civic EG to be exact. Still thinking about painting my truck in OD. hahaha

Unfortunately there isnt a sealant on the coat. I've been really giving the gun a lot of handling and in and out of my holster, seems to be holding well. The slide section though is a little worn but very little chipping.

As for advice, this is my first paint job on a gun. I've painted cars and such but I'm sure there are a lot of Calgunners that do have a lot of weapon painting skill. I'm going to paint my shotgun and hopefully gain a little more confidence in this trade.

Only time will tell. If the paint does start to fail, I am actually looking forward to the "worn in" look. Then maybe coat it again.

What kind of prep work is involved prior to paint application?

Absolutely none. Probably not the best idea but I feel that adding a layer of primer wouldnt let the paint sit thinly enough on the frame. And the slide probably wouldnt move well enough.

As I understand it the Krylon Fusion actually bonds itself to the plastic. I painted some plastic agility jumps for my dog about 5 years ago. They've been out in the yard & fading is minimal. It seems to work as advertised.

That P95 looks bad***. I've been posting this up for the OD glok fanboiz for quite some time now...:D

Going to paint a few of mine. Whats the difference between olive and Camouflage Woodland Light Green? Also OP, what paint did you use?

Tawcoma26
06-15-2012, 2:25 PM
I'm actually not sure what the difference is. Sorry I couldn't help you there.

But the paint I used is Krylon Camouflage Olive. I got it at Walmart by the way.

So after a few trips to the range and a cleaning session, the paint has done pretty well. Sweaty hands which seems more like a river in my hands has kind of pulled some of the paint off right at the bottom of the grip.

After I cleaned her, the paint did come off that was inside the slide but that was expected. The top part of the frame has really held up well. No scratches or paint peel off other than the like I said, the bottom of the grip. I'll try and get some pictures up of it so you guys can see what I mean.
