View Full Version : BATF approved 80% AK47 receivers w/rails installed, rivets and center support

HendersonDefense

This is a BATF approved (copy of letter provided) 80% receiver blank for the AK47. If you like tinkering with projects or just enjoy building your guns, then this receiver blank is perfect because you don't need hydraulic press or spot welder to "bend" your receiver. These receiver blanks have been professionally stamped on commercial equipment.

All the hard work of bending the receiver to get the correct dimensions and angles along with trying to get the rail height and angle correct has already been done.

Features:
- correct corners from a stamping and not a home "jig"
- the "X" and "Y" trigger and hammer axis locations stamped like factory receivers
- pistol grip nut locating hole already stamped into receiver
- safety raised dimpled to provide proper tension like factory receivers
- magazine well dimples just like factory receivers
- the front portion of the magazine well has the correct stamping
- bolt rails already professionally spot welded into place
- complete set of AK-Builder rivets
- AK-Builder center support bushing and rivet
- template bonded on with all correct locating holes and drill bit sizes
- complete set of instructions on how to finish from beginning to end
- copy of the BATFE approval letter for this blank receiver

ETA: These will work with Romanian, Russian, Egyptian, Hungarian and East German parts kits without modification.

PRICE: $79.95

No. The mag well on a 47 is wider than a mag well for a 74. You put a 74 mag into a 47 receiver and you have lots of side to side wiggle. I have built both.

Dang.. thanks for checking for us CEDaytona..these looked sweet. Hopefully someone offers up some of the same thing + heat treated. Sure it isn't as easy to drill holes once heat treated but its easier to do that than properly heat treat yourself.

So this thing (if it were still available) could have been completed with just a drill press? That would have been exactly what I was looking for. I would have loved to have built this in my own garage. Anyone know someone else who produces and sells this product? This thread got my 'I need to build an AK' juices flowing and then the last 2 posts were a let down.

A press would still be handy to squish the rivets... I built an AK without a press and hammered all the rivets, and its not too fun.

I think that as long as you cut one hole, or do anything else to it, it becomes a "firearm". So, maybe get one, go to a build party, get some holes drilled, and you'll be "in before the ban" (so to speak). Totally speculative, of course... ;)

Agree! These are the nicest ones I've found that make it as easy as possible to actually complete.

Here's a list of Chicago-Latrobe drill bit part numbers in the sizes needed to finish. All are available from Grainger and total about $37 before tax/shipping. I have no affiliation with anything here, just posting some drill bit part numbers and picked a single brand of decent bits from a single source, because I'm simple that way. :)

See my previous post above...

If you want to get pre-bent receivers and drill your own holes, 44mag.com has them in stock:

http://www.44mag.com/product/ak_receiver_blank/ak_magazines

Once you get the receivers, go here to download a template for hole alignment:

http://pookieweb.dyndns.org:61129/AK/docs/templates.htm

Get some of these from your local office supply store, and they stick very well to the receiver:

http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Products/Labels/Shipping-Labels/White-Shipping-Labels_08165.htm

Put a flashlight, or headlamp under a pyrex casserole dish (if you have one) to align the template. Using the mag well, and other "landmarks", you can align the label. I have a video I can post that shows how I did it.

c0re: I ordered one back in April, 2013 and received it in about a week. CEDaytonaRydr's post was several months before I placed my order. Don't know what the confusion is lately, but they were going in and out of stock around the time I ordered (a few weeks before you) and there were no issues with my shipment.

I haven't done any work on mine yet, but I put a Maadi kit on order a few days ago that is now in Fedex's hands, so we'll see how easy it is to actually finish one of these things soon.

Funny thing is I do remember reading it now, for some reason I was under the impression I was getting a better product. (something about polished areas /pin set/maybe im crazy/etc etc) Thats why I went ahead and picked it up as soon as I saw post "#57". At that time they had 16 in stock, card was charged with a confirmation the order was placed. Waiting waiting few emails/phone call. Then nothing... Not that any of this matters at this point.

Really sorry for all the trouble. Hopefully you'll get it before too long...

If it makes you feel any better, the price at 44mag hasn't gone up due to demand. They were $40 when I bought mine, and that's not really a whole bunch of money anyway. If you're in a rush to get your AK running, you could just buy another one, and put the first one your ordered aside once it arrives. Regardless of what happens with the gun laws this year, I think it's safe to say that you're not going to regret having another receiver lying around, and all you'll have to do is knock a few holes in it, and put your name on it to make it a 100% receiver. ;)

Either way, best of luck man!

Just a heads up to anyone who has one of these. It appears the template they are using may require some small adjustments to the locations of the holes for the center support and selector. Ran into a post on an ak board regarding those holes being slightly off and when I checked mine it appears I have the same issue. Easy enough to adjust if you are aware of it. Get a set of plans and double-check the hole locations before you start drilling/cutting. And yes, it is taking me forever to actually get this build underway.

He wants to add some more features but wants an approval letter before adding them (and not have BATF coming looking for the customer list). All of the features on the current model have been inspected by BATF and deemed to NOT be firearms.

UPDATE for the folks tagged in this thread

We are waiting to hear back from BATF Technical Branch on some more features that we want added but need we need the letter stating that it in fact still does not meet the definition of a firearm. There were several variants of the letter submitted at one time with various added features so were hoping at least one of the variations gets approved.

If any of the variations are approved by the Technical Branch then that means you folks will have an even more precise basis to start with.

When these were first offered to us, the very first thing I asked was did it have an approval letter from BATF. He had just received and included in the email because he knew I wouldn't carry a product without that letter. That letter protects Henderson Defense from improperly transferring firearms and it protects our clients from receiving an unregistered firearm, surrendering a firearm that YOU manufactured or any of the various negative outcomes that could result without the Technical Branch's approval.

As a user a while back asked; is there a way to get notified when everything works itself out, or will we have to keep checking this thread and your website?
I'm in for at least 5 whether or not there is a notification but it sure would be nice not to have to check the page all the time to make sure I place an order before you are sold out.
Thanks

This item cannot be returned once ANY work is completed because it will then be considered a firearm. All state, local and Federal laws apply to the manufacture of firearms. Make sure that this receiver shell is legal in your area prior to ordering. NO LICENSES IS NEEDED TO PURCHASE.

Any idea when these are going to be back in stock?

This.

And a quick perusal of the site shows pretty much everyting out of stock except for a few "1 in stock" LE machine guns.

Looks like they've completely given up on the retail side of the business.

Funny, I've had one of these sitting in a junk box for over a year because I have no idea how to build it, I bought it on a whim.
