View Full Version : My first Black Rifle. LMT CQB-16 or JP Enterprises JP-15?

Caught the Black Rifle bug and set to purchase my first AR-15 style rifle. Narrowing down choices to either an LMT CQB-16 or a JP Enterprises JP-15. Also considering the JP-CTR-02 in 16” light contour JP Supermatch. I've read excellent reviews on all rifles mentioned but have only had the chance to handle the LMT CQB-16.
I would greatly appreciate any opinions, thoughts, feedback, experiences from LMT or JP Enterprises owners or from anyone who has had range time with any of these rifles. Thank you!

I would lean towards jp purely off of aesthetics have zero experience with the lmt so can't give comparable feedback

Nothing wrong with the LMT. They make excellent ARs. I'm just a little biased towards a semi-custom JP. However, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

LMT makes great AR's. I don't personally own one. I'm biased to JP since I own a CTR-02. I love the trigger on the JP rifles. If you look at DPMS 3G rifles they opted for JP trigger. JP are D@mn accurate out the box. I have the low mass setup and the felt recoil is like a 22lr. Aesthetically pleasing with function. Love the heat fin behind the hand guard.
Low Mass Bolt Carrier Group and chrome bolt. Crazy how much material has been removed
Cooling fin on rifle behind hand guard

Another option could go with a one of the forum sponsors Addax Tactical. Addax and JP are my top 2 choices. I recently took delivery of an Addax Rifle and was able to run 100 rounds through it.

TRIJICON ACCUPOINT TRG-24G 1-4 SCOPE - Thank you Jtrain
LARUE TACTICAL SPR-E MOUNT - Thank you Jtrain
Target was set to 50 yards and shot with my pack supporting the BR.
Top left of the target you can see 1st five shots out of the Addax BR. Next 5 shots was after adjusting the optics. Had 2 fliers due to rookie mistake.
Best 10 shot grouping for the day. Had 2 fliers due to rookie mistake. Ran out of time before I could get the scope fully zeroed.

No experience with the JP I have a LMT MRP DI that I shoot a lot I love it because everything on it is super tight built correct has a small profile monolithic rail and overall IMO screams quality.
I think they cater to different crowds though the JP is more of a competition gun then a LMT.
I love my LMT MRP with piston system but I think it's quite a bit heavier than a JP. If you want rugged reliability and switching calibers quickly go MRP; if it's lightweight handling & accuracy go JP. Either way you'll get a great product.

LMT, no question. EXCELLENT brand.

LMT, no question. EXCELLENT brand.
The question is what does the user prefer?
Innovative quality - JP
Conventional quality - LMT
Hard to go wrong with either though.

Never owned a LMT...but have owned DPMS, POF, RRA, and way back when (1990's) Colt, Oly Arms, and a Knights SR-25. NONE of those compare with JP's. There is a MAJOR down side to JP's though.....
Just like Pringle's.....once you buy one, you will have to have more. I am on my 6th. I have or have had the VTAC, JP-15, CTR-02, and PSC-11 upper based rifles. ALL are tack drivers and run so smooth.
There are Chevy/Ford AR's...Lexus/Acura AR's.....then there are the Lambo AR's being JP.
And I am not biased at all

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you're not going to a 2-way range, run 3-gun or tactical rifle, doesn't matter. Pick the one that you're excited about.

JP's aren't black. More like periwinkle with pink polkadots.

Both are great, and JP makes great rifles!
