I have a FAL that is currently featureless. My sweetie loves shooting the FAL but hates the solar tactical grip-wrap. What are the options to lock the FAL mag release and which one is considered the most functional?

Thanks for your help!

The PRK seems to be the preferred one but seems unavailable now. Let me know if you find some..

For one of my Fals I added a setscrewed and epoxied mag release to fix a ten round mag and load it from the top through a shortened dustcover, works pretty good if you must have the ergos..

Looking at Assault Planet's website, I don't see a FAL bullet button. So, it appears that there isn't one. You might be able to find a non "bullet button" mag lock that releases mags with tthe use of a tool but, it won't be a "bullet button".

Some folks have suggested removing the piston and spring to render the rifle a single shot/ bolt action-- or non-semiautomatic. I understand you could keep the features, but I would want to hear a qualified opinion before I try this...

Interesting suggestion but I don't want to neuter my FAL any more than I have to. A device that requires a tool to unlock the mag release seems like the next thing to try if we want to get away from its featureless configuration.

More ideas are always welcome!

The most desireable FAL bullet button is one that allows the rifle to be opened for field stripping and cleaning without disassembly or removal.

I've made a few for customers guns, the best off the shelf mag lock is PRKarms FAL lock. You could fix the mag in place and top load, it's what DSA will do for ca customers if they ask.

this one. I have the PRK lock, and its essentially this. It just locks the mag, you can still dissassemble the rifle with it intact

FWIW, the prk and the atlantic mag locks will NOT work on Israeli FALs

Thanks for the replies and suggestions guys. Looking at what's available I think I'll make something myself. I'm a machinist and this should be pretty straight forward. I would like something that has holes on the side instead of the back so that I can use a bullet or tool to lever the mag release instead of having to fight with the trigger guard and push from the rear. I'll probably put holes on three sides, LOL... cause I like options.

Thanks Again!

On looking at that pic and comparing with the PRK lock, it's not a total complete ripoff although they both function the same:

The PRK lock is sloped diagonally on the side with the hole for the BB.

While the following ad is not my rifle, it shows a FAL with a PRK lock:

You'll see it's slightly different from the one that Atlantic has.
