I've never understood this argument that blames one state for supplying guns to criminals in another. If it's so easy to illegally acquire guns in a certain state, wouldn't you expect to see domestic criminals in that state using the guns at higher rates than the interstate criminals?

And of course they're still including suicides in their figures, as though people who want to kill themselves will really be affected that much by... what exactly? How could anything other than a perfectly-enforced total ban remove firearms from the presence of potentially suicidal people?

This is getting very old and completely refuted already. VPC is not a research organization. All their "statistics" tell us, is how far they'll go, to push their anti-Second Amendment agenda.

Folks,

VPC propaganda, cheese pizzas out sell pepperoni 3 to 1. So what, if auto deaths are outpaced by gun deaths. Totally different subjects. Why do they do this, long live the Second Amendment. A2

". . . deaths due to gun violence have been slowly, but very steadily, increasing during the same period from just under 30,000 to just over 30,000."

Wow, talk about underwhelming.

And of course they're still including suicides in their figures, as though people who want to kill themselves will really be affected that much by... what exactly?

They also don't bother to remove justified homicides from that figure.

So . . . the opposite is true in 40 states?

You must be mistaken, it is crystal clear that Leeland Lee is the author of this "study"

Yea, suicides and justifiable homocides are lumped in there. Prescription drug interactions kill 100,000 people a year. Hospital medical errors kill 195,000 per year.

I guess those 10 states have pretty good drivers ed programs.

100% of people who ever drank water have died.

Here's another thing to think about; while the statistics say that there are more gun deaths than those cause by motor vehicles, gun deaths include suicide, justifiable homocide, and shootings involving peace officers.

It could be asked of the VPC whether they would rather have dead police officers if it meant fewer people were killed with a firearm...

Out of the 31,000 deaths or so only 11,493 are homicides. So you can decrease those stats by 63%.

Even better, Di-Hydrogen Monoxide (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4534017/), the greatest killer. Present a spin, use some unfamiliar words, and it will sound scary enough for some of our guys to try and ban it.

Is a drive-by shooting a motor vehicle death or a gun death or both?

Sadly, in California, the majority of voters love what the Violence Policy Center have to say. They suck it up like the gospel from Jesus. The majority of voters in this state are stupid sheep. It's just the way it is.

I doubt the majority of voters in California even know what the Violence Policy Center is. California voters select a politician based on how many pockets he promises to pick and to whom he intends to give the stolen goods.

"Science"

Law enforcement officials in California and former gang members here in the Bay Area have told me on several occasions that many of the weapons that wind up on Oakland's streets come from those three neighboring states.

1) They do not teach critical thinking anymore or
2) This guy has no reporting skill.

Good research CC Times...
Good research on what gets handed to you and what your paper headlines expound without checking details / facts.

According to the website traceforguns.org, roughly 25 percent of the guns in California come from out of state.

"traceforguns.org" does not exist.

Patently false. I've drank water and I'm still alive.

I think what you meant to say is that 100% of the people who've died have also drank water.

Maybe if we could talk all the druggies into not killing each other, the number of gun deaths would go down.

They are trying to take away the argument, that if you want to save live, ban cars.

That's why I avoid drinking water. And because fish poop in it.

I think what you meant to say is that 100% of the people who've died have also drank water.

Or, 100% of the people who drink water end up dead.

Or, closer to the original, 100% of people who drink water will die.

Population in 2010 was 13% more than what it was in 1999.
So actually the shooting rate per capita decreased over that timeframe.

The correct analysis would be that the car death rate has dropped much faster than the rate of death by guns - but that wouldnt get many hits.
