I just got my Shield a few days ago and finally got to the range with it.
Only had time to shoot about 200rds, no problems at all.
It is everything I wanted for a single stack. This will be my CCW.

As usual, others wiill have their opinion, but I'm very pleased with it.

How did you acquire it? Single shot exemption? I have my eye on one and am glad to hear your experience is positive.

Yes, it was a SSE.... I would imagine that they will be on the roster soon though.

+1 on pics. Hows it feel in your hand?

My Shield became my #1 CCW gun overnight. Smith made the gun I waited for for years, and I assumed Glock would do it first. Trigger is similar to PPQ.

Sorry no pics, but you can find them easy enough on S&W's site. It fits my hand very well. I'll carry it with the 7rd mag, and keep the 8rd in my pouch.
Your price may vary, but I paid retail $449....no complaint here.

Which ffl performed the sse?

Who had the kit to perform that SSE on such a new gun?

And, that thing isn't going to make the roster in its current form. At a minimum - no magazine disconnect and no protruding LCI.

I held one on Saturday at my local FFL's house. I don't remember how much he was asking for them. They are very small and light. If I had a CCW, it would be on the top of my list.

Word is that there will be a CA version.

Island View guns in Ventura is doing SSE on these. Went in to buy one a few days ago, but they were sold out at the time.

According to my emails with S&W, it should be on the roster in mid-June.

But who wants a Cali neutered piece?

Like my full size M&P, it has a Loaded chamber indicator and mag disconnect. Nothing that I would consider neutered, especially since one can easily remove the mag disconnect safety and the hole on the top of the barrel(LCI) is hardly even noticeable.

A viewing window type (hole in barrel) LCI does not meet the current CA roster standard for a LCI.

How would compliance with roster requirements make the Shield "neutered?"

I guess he means because the mag disconnect and anything else they need to change to make it comply with CA rules...it wont be in its natural form!

Just talked to guys at ventura shop. They will not be doing any SSE of this gun and are waiting for the ca legal version. Anyone have a place that will do an SSE for this gun? You can send me a PM instead of posting! I really want to pick one up for the wife!!

Exactly. That's why I want to know what S&W is (supposedly) going to do? It would be an extraordinary cost to have to make a completely new slide. So, I would have to assume that they would use a modified extractor, which protrudes when the chamber has a round.

Yes, mag disconnect and LCI.

Okay, but how does that affect your ability to use the gun as originally designed? It doesn't. California restricting magazines with a capacity of 11 or more is neutering a gun part because that legislation restricts your ability to use the part as originally designed. Is the roster a good thing? No. But having a mag disconnect and LCI does not negatively affect the gun's ability to be used as designed, as a CCW gun.

I am checking daily as well for the CA availability. I want to compare it to my 18 year old 3913, which is still my favorite carry pistol.

what makes you say that? When I spoke to them by phone a month or so ago they said a month or two (which should be any day now)... even with delays it should be before fourth quarter... but from what I can tell (and have been told) it will happen.

The S&W M&P-22CA is on the approved list, just have to wait until S&W produces enough to ship them to distributors (summer time?).
So, start buying factory 10 round magazines while you wait. :p

They aren't easy to find right now... except on GB at an inflated price. I have an 07 FFL trying to get one for me (waiting game)... the CA version may come out before his supplier has any normal versions... if I get one through sse I'll post source (but not before I get mine :D)-
