Definitely the .22lr. Don't believe the people that say that bigger bullets do more damage.

personally i only use tracers for home defense...i like to seem the lights bounce around inside my house whenever some tries to break in.

so really u can use both as long as they are tracers

just mount an m2 50bmg on the banister, or you could always go with the mark 19.

Go with the 50, you never know when an entire military force will break into your house to steal your laptop and flatscreen

50 cal muzzle loader! The smoke cloud it puts out is great for moving around your house like a ninja!

I use to keep a pair of M2HB barrels in my livingroom. They would have made great HD clubs. Other than that, my 50s are too heavy to use for inside the house SD but, I would use them to defend the house from the hoards of zombies coming up the road. For inside the house HD, I prefer .22lr shotshells or .22BB caps (CB caps are just too big). Using them doesn't leave big holes to patch yet, they are just enough to dispatch the ocassional mouse that attempts a home invasion here.

Is this a CCW or a nightstand rifle? I'm leaning towards .22lr because .50 cal MAY over-penetrate on you.

You can not own a 50 bmg unless it is your own RAW. Honestly .22lr is a bit to strong for hd may I sugest a .17 hmr.

If you want to get technical, some 50BMGs were registered as RAWs but, most are registered as "50BMG rifles". The two are NOT interchangable. I can not legally configure either of my registered 50BMG rifles as AWs but, I could change to chambering of a RAW and make it a 50BMG rifle.

Diameter by itself means absolutely nothing.

Excellent!

OP:

Why not have both? Barrett's can be sold with .22lr conversion kits. .50BMG for casual plinking and .22lr hollowpoints for when things get serious.

Solidux
05-27-2012, 9:08 PM
Not sure is the OP is planning to shoot them out of the gun... or throw them at the bad guy... I would rather throw the 22lrs. because .50cal rounds are expensive and the robber could pick them up and run... effectively robbing you of $100's of ammo they could put up on calguns marketplace.

.22LR for HD. Definitely, the way to go for Zombie apocalypse. Ruger and Marlin make a smorgasbord of Rifles for you to choose from. The vast consensus is simply that a .22 Rifle could possibly be the most important firearm that you possess.

If you open up the possibilities to other calibers than obviously 5.56 / .223 through an AR platform or Ranch file should give you all you need for HD.

Anything bigger is a waste and you have consider collateral damage from over penetration.

Think about it, do you really want to put someone else's kids through college?..

Haha. Otherwise, I like the Harry Potter wand if you can get it on sale.

Good choice. This will come in handy if the invader decides to answer his cellphone while standing in your hallway.

"I'd buy that for a dollar!" Lol

On a serious note, the Mosin Nagant 91/30 with the fixed bayonet is a formidable HD weapon. If one round with a soft tip 7.62 doesn't stop the threat, the muzzle flash would blind him, thus allowing you to leap forward with the mighty bayonet that can reach halfway down the hallway, thus impaling the threat.

For those with cqb issues, just choose the M44.
