While I have a whole bunch of black guns, I think I just prefer the stainless look. I think I'm going to focus on mostly stainless stuff from now on...

+1 for stainless all if my handguns are stainless, not only are they rust resistant and durable but they look as if they are brand new and mine are over 4 years old

If a gun is offered in blue or stainless, then I'm definitely picking the ss version.

I can also deal with bi-tone guns, those are ok too.

I also prefer SS but they require more work to clean.

Renaissance Wax will keep debris and finger prints off the exterior. Overall, I'd say that parkerizing is more difficult to keep clean since the finish attracts dirt, grime, dust, etc.

I felt the same way, and still do to an extent, but I got to looking at my stable and noticed that I didn't have any blued revolvers, or a blued pistol. They were all black or stainless, or stainless/black. I believe there is more inherent beauty in a finely blued pistol or revolver. I've recently begun to remedy the imbalance I see in my safes.

Nice trio of SS pistols! While most of what I own is blued/black, I've finally ventured into more diverse options. I recently picked up an MC Operator and an OD Glock 17. Finally got my first stainless pistol as well, a Springfield Loaded in 9mm. Now I just need to find something in FDE, perhaps another XDm.

I got the SS bug when I picked up a S&W Model 60 - took to it with rags and Flitz and the result was sooooo nice. It started a run of buying really sexy SS guns that I think are so much nicer than the black alternatives. There is a lot of not needed polishing and couch brandishing going on in the collection at the moment :-)

I started buying blued guns in the beginning, than switched to SS in later years. My handgun collection is 2/3 stainless and 1/3 blued. My shotguns are all blued or parkerized.
My stainless faves are my GP100 with both types of Hogue Grips and my Dan wesson PM7 with wood grips. Heck, even my Stainless Speed Six with Hogue Rubber grips is beautiful.

my Colt King Cobra 4" barrel revolver is stainless but all my other guns are blue/black...i am debating whether or not to get my next gun, the Beretta Px4 Storm in inox...its just the slide and about $100-120.00 more, so im not sure if its worth spending the extra cash just for a stainless slide...plus i have to bring it in most likely from out of state since no local shops are gonna be carrying it and asking them to order it in could end up costing even more

what do you guys think? my son wants me to get the inox, which i do like, but i actually like the regular finish too...so many gun decisions sigh

Beretta has a slightly unique, and very vibrant secondary market. People buy/sell/swap EVERY single part for their guns. Barrels, slides and parts are always available.

Granted, that mostly applies to the venerable 92, but with the solid popularity of the PX4 line, I do notice some parts for sale now and then.
Point being, you could always just buy the regular model in CA, then look to track down the Inox upper on your own. Even CDNN or MGW might be a good spot to check, as they seem to get interesting factory parts all the time.

yeah, i already put all that into perspective, even going so far as contacting Beretta to see if they sold the inox slide by itself, and i could just interchange it whenever i felt like it...thats probably the route i'll end up going so ill be keeping my eyes peeled

I like stainless for pragmatic reasons, but aesthetically, nothing beats blued.

Glocks are butt ugly, but I like the tennifer process they use on their gun metal. I wish 1911s came with factory nitrocarburized metal.

I will always prefer all stainless guns. However, I am partial to certain classically blued guns. But it's unfortunate that almost every single manufacturer has jumped on the me-too-tactical bus. I understand the need for durable, "mil-spec" choices. But, there are a ton of us shooters who don't/can't carry, and don't need ninja-grade finishes on our guns.

Just look at the gorgeous blue finish on a Python, or an old pre-lock S&W revolver, or an old Colt 1911. Just awesome, and those finishes hold up just fine with minimal maintenance.

Get it while you still can! As a fellow CG'er recently pointed out to me, the stainless Sigs are discontinued. You can get the Stainless Elite, but you may or may not like the beavertail and FCS (and you'll have to SSE it). The Platinum Elites were pretty awesome looking too, although discontinued as well. Any idea what the story is with those Sig slide lock levers? On every stainless model I've seen, those parts are always noticeably a different material. The piece is much more yellow. I don't know if it's just the result of some kind of flash-chrome treatment, but it always seems to strike me as odd, because it's clearly different than the plunger tube and thumb safety material.

The slide stop is an MIM part, thus the matte finish. You can swap it out with an aftermarket part. Wilson and other companies make replacement slide stops out of billet if you want to throw down some cash. They may require some custom fitting.

The mismatched color irritates me a bit on my stainless Sig 1911, but the MIM is deemed to be mechanically sufficient and then some, and I have other fish to fry, so I've left mine alone for the time being. It's held up just fine thus far, and I have no doubt it will continue to work just fine in the future.

My friend made me aware of this a couple weeks ago. I'd always been eyeing a 226 stainless, but I just bought a Sig SP2022 a couple months back so I wasn't in need of another Sig so soon. But once I heard the stainless was being discontinued I had to jump on it.

Oh well... My wife will eventually forgive me.

The Tommy Lee Jones quote from US Marshalls comes to mind. I'll let ya look it up if you don't know what I am talking about.

Stainless is very pretty. No question. However it scratches and scuffs very easily. It shows wear right away when you actually use it and train with it. So unless it is a safe queen it stops being pretty very quickly. Not that I mind a scratched up gun but that amazing look you get from stainless fades right away. I definately like the looks of 'em when they are new. However I prefer to shoot my guns and train really hard with them. The idea of a safe queen bugs me. Stainless begs to be a safe queen. I feel guilty beating up something so pretty. However, the right deal is the right deal. I certainly would not skip out on an amazing deal just because it was a certain color. I'd buy any color if the price was just right and it was a model gun I really wanted. The color doesn't change how it shoots.

There are plenty of us who don't have the slightest interest in any kind of tactical theatrics. I collect nice guns and enjoy target shooting. I have no need to worry about being rough on my guns, because I treat them well. They will never be run through the sand, because the last thing that I'm going to do when I go shooting, is crawl around in the dirt.
My stainless guns aren't safe queens. Furthest thing from that, in fact. But they all look as nice as when I bought them, and when I need to fix a scratch or blem, I can do so with ease, because there is no black painted finish to worry about.

I 2nd that… I’ve read a lot of “tacticalcity’s” post and commend him for his knowledge and experience in tactical warfare. However, a lot of the tactical pointer I’ve read is way over my head. And like you pointed out, a lot of us here have the slightest clue or interest in all the survival commando tactics.

And another thing, the barrel’s black coating on my Beretta was fading, which is the reason why I decided to make it all stainless. I never have that problem is my SS guns…

I also don't have any issues with stainless guns. I find them actually easier to maintain outside of Glocks.

I've owned 3 Sigs in stainless, all my revolvers were/are stainless, my Ruger Mini 14 is stainless, if I didn't get my 22/45 at such a good price.. it'd probably be stainless too.. haha.. so yea.. I like stainless. That said, I own(ed) plenty of black guns. I have no safe queens. Also... as much as I love stainless... nothing beats the good looks of Colt's blueing process.

I agree that stainless is easy to care for. My XD bi-tone has somewhere around 30k rounds through it. It is a competition gun and doesn't get treated quite as easy as my others. It has only slight scratches from the holster. You have to look close to see them. My ruger 22 pistol is stainless and still looks great after many range trips. I think small scratches on stainless are less noticeable than on black or blue. My S&W revolver is the newest in my collection. It gets so dirty that I have used stainless polish to get the really tough residue off. It shines up very nice. The cylinder is almost like chrome now. Other people use a super fine scotch brite pad to replicate the brushed finish on theirs.

For the average target shooter, like me, the looks and durability of stainless is great. I like the bluing on my shotgun but I know that if I scratch the finish, it will be quite noticeable and harder to fix.

I dont think I would ever sell my XD. I have too much practice and range time with it to let it go. Its still my go-to pistol and my home defense pistol.

The stainless Sig 1911 is just something I wanted to buy to show off and enjoy at the range. I dont have plans on making it my home defense pistol but you never know... It sure is fun to shoot.

Nice SS 1911. I take it this gun was off the roster with that long @$$ single shot barrel. Never did an SSE purchase so it's cool to actually see one done. The things us Cali folks have to do just to be equal with the rest of the US. I’m just glad that we at least have options. Congrats and enjoy…

Correct, this is a single shot conversion of an off-roster pistol I bought from a private individual out of state, second one I've done. It's pretty straight forward - if the seller-FFL is ok with shipping the gun to California. Since in this case the FFL didn't want to send it to California I went via Table Rock Arms in Oregon (I highly recommend!) who did the SSC and they sent it on to here which is an extra hoop to jump through but essentially not a problem at all...

So these are my Sig stainless offerings, there is other shiny stuff in the collection but these are my goto range guns and rank as the best of the best for me.

While I love the mirror stainless on the revolvers I think this Sig satin/brushed finish is a really nice working finish.

Not exactly a sucker - but, the low maintenance factor is attractive, especially for a field gun.

Here's a pic of my latest aquisition - a S&W Model 66-4 4" .38/.357 and a group pic prior to the M66.

Looks nice but you don't get the weight (if you want it) & durability benefit of the stainless steel. This about sums it up...

With you on this point that the brushed stainless is generally nicer. There is an exception for me though - wheel guns. They are just so sexy with a polished mirror stainless finish. Takes maintenance but so nice to look at.

In the days when men were men and cops carried revolvers :oji: :D my duty and off-duty guns were both stainless (S&W 66 and 60, later a Colt Officer's Model). Nowadays, I sometimes carry a Glock... but if I'm not, the odds are very good it'll be a stainless steel pistol.

Seeing as there's a few stainless pieces in the safe, I can safely say that I'm a sucker for stainless steel firearms.
