Hi all:

I am new to the gun world and looking to buy either the Sig 226 or 2022 in 9mm. Beside one being polymer vs. steel, for a newbie, which would you suggest? Have shot both and love them.

Thanks!

If you have the budget for a P226 then by all means go for the P226. I absolutely love mine. It's one of the best 9mm pistols in the world and it's a proven firearm.

I like the balance of the 226. Haven't shot the 2022, but I own a Glock 19 and XD9 4". Polymer frames are lighter but there's something good to be said about the wighted balance of a P226. I have a Stainless Steel on my "must get" list.

Can't go wrong with either one. The p226 is an incredible pistol in all regards, however it's not cheap. I just picked up an sp2022 in like new condition for $350 and think its the best gun for the price I've ever found. Depends if you're buying a pistol to see if you like handgun shooting then maybe start with the 2022, if you want something that will last forever and hold a higher value (albeit at a higher initial price) get the p226.

I will have to agree with what the others have said. If you have the budget then a P226 is the way to go, but for a very awesome afordable shooter you can not beat a SigPro. The sig pro is the only gun I regret getting rid of, so much so that I am still looking for another one.

P226 all the way if you have the funds.

Buy the 2022 in 9mm and .40 for the price of a fancy model P226.

But if your limited to one only then the P226.

Had the SP2022in 9mm for a short time, and it was great gun for the price. But like others have already said, if P226 is in your budget defintely get that and you will not be disappointed.

P226 will love you long time. It's quality is well above the SP series pistols. When you handle either, you'll notice the double-action pull on the 2022 feels like it's way too long. The P226 has a much more predictable and tuneable trigger.

If it's possible, go P226.

There both a win win. If theres a budget, theres absolutely nothing wrong with the Sig Pro 2022. Even the mags are cheap for it. If you have the budget I prefer the P226 myself.

Either way its a win win, you get a fine product.

If you've shot both and love both, then you should buy both.

I was in the same situation as you a couple months ago. Was looking for my first 9mm and it came down to the 2022 and 226. I initially went with the 2022 because of the price difference. Loved shooting it until I tried my friend's new 226 and then decided that I had to have that one as well.

Yup, can't go wrong with either one. Though if you get the 2022, that leaves you a lot more money to get goodies for it, or just a bunch of ammo to go shoot with. It is half the price!

Ya, you're really gonna get what you pay for on this one. Going for value then get the 2022. IMHO the p226 is worth every penny more, but like others have said, the 2022 leaves you lots to spend on ammo!!

This is like asking 'vette or camaro. If you can afford the 'vette, get it but camaro will still get the job done.

226, though I have both the 226 and the 2022 (and the 220).

P226s can be had in both Aluminum alloy frames (http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p226.aspx) or in a steel frame (one type (http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p226-elite-stainless.aspx), another type (http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p226-stainless-nitron.aspx)).

The "normal" P226 is the aluminum frame. The steel framed P226s are usually used for dedicated target guns and probably is not what you want in a first gun unless you want something really heavy.

I think a standard P226 in Aluminum frame is a great first gun. The SigPro Polymer guns are too "snappy" (IMHO) for a beginner.

Both are good choices, but I agree with the others that if you have the money, I'd go P226 all the way.

SigPros are know to have nicer triggers out of the box than the standard P226.

But a 226, is well, a 226. If you can find a clean West German or German you'll have a something special.

w german P226; personal preference, and having nothing bad to say about the Sig Pro series.

i have never handled a sig 2022, but I can tell you that i just bought a sig P226 combat and it feels amazing in my hands. The first time i held it i fell in love and it pretty much turned me into a sig fan because no pistol has never felt so good or pointed so naturally for me before. I am sure you would love either but if you can find some where or someone who has them and hold both to see what feels best for you. Im pretty confident when i say you would probably be happy with either one. Just try and find somewhere you can hold both types if you're not sure. Take care make sure to let us know what you decide to purchase.

Uncles got a 2022 i shoot a lot. For the price, I dont think you can beat it. Great out of the box gun.. But, if you have the money, go with the 226!

I own BOTH and here is my deal- the P226 is for home defense and playing. The SP2022 is a MID SIZED pistol and the same size as the Glock 19. So for me, one is full sized and the other is compact.

The SP2022 is my road gun and really feels like it was custom build for my hand, serious. It shoots like butter and for me looks stealth and tactical. If I had to buy and own only one pistol, it would be the SP2022 for all around purpose.

i own both and i have never looked back. both of them are excellent. if you can have both go for it...if you're pocket is tight right now and really want a sig go for the sp2022 first then save some for the p 226...
