View Full Version : My AR-15 makes loud noises, broken?

Merc1138

So I insert a magazine, get my target in my sights, take the safety off, and every time I pull the trigger this really REALLY loud noise happens. Is it supposed to do that? When I play CoD on my home theater system it's loud, but not as loud as my AR. I haven't heard an AR or m-16 this loud in any movies at the theater either. Is there anything I can do to fix the volume? Thanks.

Oh, btw. Is there any way to cool the brass off as it ejects? Sometimes it bounces off of the partition and hits me, kinda burns a little. I could get used to it, but if there's some kinda fan or something I could attach to that nub behind the ejection port(I assume it's for attaching things, but there's no rail section there), that would be nice.

I've heard that if you buy a Piston AR-15 it solves all these problems. What you're describing are Direct-Impingement issues.

Magazine? Brass ejecting? I think you have a problem. My ARs doesn't have mags and doesn't eject hot brass either. REALLY loud noises do come out of them when I pull the triggers though.

Move to a "friendly" state, and invest in a suppressor....

This shoot pretty quiet:

If the noises coming from your ARs are as loud as the ones coming from mine, you need to seek immediate help. If you don't already have your own, I can refer you to a good mental health care proffesional and a ENT MD. You'll need both.

If you use unloaded magazines, then it doesnt do that to you when you apply pressure to the trigger with the safety off. If you rack it back and see a round being chambered then you are in for a load noise and you are doing it wrong then. You need to inform other people at the range about this, as I'm sure they will want to know too in order to keep from hurting their ears. The trigger tends to be tricky too because it doesnt really look like the buttons on the game controller.

What's the best AR for under $700 that gets 1/2 MOA and will never jam and won't scratch or ever show any wear.

97F1504RAD
05-25-2012, 12:59 PM
The first thing you must do to lower the noise is warp your entire rifle in bubble wrap. Then make sure to double wrap it at the end of the barrel As for the heat issues I would suggest that you install a methanol injection kit that can spray directly into the chamber area as the weapon is being fired this should solve all your troubles.

Since you're a gunsmith, maybe you can help my friend out. He bought an MP5, paid almost $20,000 for it, had to wait 5 months to pick it up, and it's broken. Every time you pull the trigger, it doesn't just fire one shot, it keeps shooting until you let go. I think that's unacceptable for such an expensive gun.

I think if you adjust your barrel weights a little toward the back and replace the chamber bulb with a brighter one it should fix your problem, if that doesn't completely eliminate the issue try a different butt stock lube and front sight return spring. I hear that works on almost every problem except receiver flooding. If you have receiver flooding you need to replace/adjust the float.

If your lower receiver is flooded, I'd recommend drilling a hole in it to allow the oil/liquid/hog blood to drain out of there. Make sure that you wash it with Tide afterwards to keep it smelling fresh.
