So a couple weeks ago I made a thread about weather or not I should paint my spikes lower, because I wasn't sure if the "ZOmbIe" embossed design bothered me or not, and I wanted my Internet friends opinions. Some posters said they would like to see the after results

I decided to paint it. Please excuse my terrible photography.
Before:

After one can of rustoleum paint/primer combo in flat black:

It turned out better than I expected. All I did was clean the lower with alcohol. After paint, I have already got Hoppes #9 and shooters choice on it and it has stood up to the chemicals well.

When I was picking up the lower, my LGS told me they had some RRA LPK's in stock so I picked one up. I paid about $10.00 more than online, but the guys are really cool and helpful, and let me touch all their guns so I would MUCH rather keep their doors open.

Some pics with the RRA LPK - I have a UTG buffer, Magpul MOE + grip and Magpul trigger guard on the way.

Opinions? I like it much more now, but I would like to hear what you guys think.

I love that deep black on the lower!
I might just have a reason to do the same now!!!
How do you think the finish will stand?
I just use FrogLube for everything!!! so now harsh chem foe me.

Looks WAY better IMO.

So you couldn't just use thinner or acetone to get the paint out of the roll marks? If it was wax based you could have used a heat gun or hair dryer while scrubbing with a tooth brush.

the paint on the letters was nice, but on the zombie looked terrible, i have the same lower with just the letters painted, the black does look better though!

I think it will stand up fine. I am not a LEO or soldier, so it will only see range use. Plus the color matched the original black very well, so if there ever is a scratch, it will be less noticeable. If anything, a little damage is a good thing. I plan on shooting the heck out of this, it is not going to stay in the safe.

Thats a good point. I did not think to do that.

What, are you made of money? 5.56/.223 ammo is getting ridiculously expensive, my next AR build is leaning toward 9mm, just for that reason. 9mm is still reasonable cost.

Wish I could build a 7.62 x 54 AR, that stuff is still dirt cheap ;-)

You can see the Zombie much better now.

I did a color fill on my first two builds, but not my third. I think I'll stick with the traditional black in the future. I have a stripped TM15 in the safe that I'm still working on. I'll leave that one black.

Best part about your paint job is you can just touch it up with more black if the color comes back.
