View Full Version : Update: ACR on the range

I took my ACR out on the range and was very impressed. All the negativity went out the window for me. I cant speak for everyone else. Yes, I am new to the site, but not to shooting. I've been out of the game since I got of the military in 1996. I started to shoot again recently. The ACR is the best I have handled. My shot groups were 1 MOA and reaquisition was excellent. I was shooting .223 55grain and want to try 5.56 62 grain. My son shot after I did and MOA's were about the same. No disrespect to anyone but I'm very happy with this weapon. My next project is to get a SCAR 16 and compare. My son, who just returned fron Iraq, has a SCAR 17 and is a very good weapon, but I prefer the 5.56/.223. When SHTF, its more affordable and very accesible. I do appreciate all the advise from those who are willing and able. I'd like to hear from those WHO have fired the ACR and were not satisfied and why?

Most excellent. I have a scar 16 and it is an excellent rifle. Mine is topped with an eotech exps 3. I have my local gun dealer on the hunt for a bushmaster ACR basic black for me. I too am looking forward to comparing the two. The ACR's seem to ba bit hard to locate right now. Thanks for you service. Glad you like your ACR. What sight/optics are you running? I have a set of HK 416 diopters I'm going to put on mine once I get it.

Unfortunately dont have enough rounds through either to come up with a definte review, but I would have to say that its been a pleasure shooting both.

They both have their pros and cons, but one thing I did notice with the ACR when first handling it was its weight ( I havent even put on the tri rail guard yet) compared to the scar.

Both are accurate with irons, still need to put a decent magnified optic on it to do some distance shooting.

One thing I will say about the scar 16 is after you shoot it, it makes me want the scar 17 now =P

Using mag pul sites and quite impressed with groups. Like one of u said, need more rounds down range. Hoping to get the ACOG TA-31H soon. But have to get my wife an ar15 next month. Shes excited and is looking forward to getting a PINK S&W MP-15 ORC. Shes shot my other ar15 and likes it. Shes used to shooting the mini 14 at work. Getting the whole family armed and prepared. Each of my boys have ar's. My son is going to the academy next month for state police. Hes fired up. As far as when the SHTF, I meant more affordable now to have supplies and probably easier to aquire if SHTF. I was surprised with the 1-1.5 MOA also. Basic 223 55grain, Remington. Wont allow to shoot the M855 because of steel. Anyone know of a good 5.56 62-69 grain non-metallic?

If it wont shoot steel it aint worth the polymer n metal its made out of! buy the wpa 62gr its about $220 for 1k rounds.

Main difference I felt between the SCAR and the ACR while shooting was the unbalance of the ACR. It seemed much more front heavy. Beyond that, shot about the same for me.

Glad you like the ACR, I think once you get a hold of the SCAR though it will seem a little less comfortable to shoot.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to range rules.
