Im just doing some research for a new upper build... and came across something I have not heard of before... The INTERMEDIATE LENGTH GAS SYSTEM.

Has anyone used or own one, or have any knowledge or experience with them.

It sounds pretty interesting with regards to optimal dwell times and barrel length...

Is it supposed to be for something like 18" barrels?

It is, but it seems to also apply to the 16" barrels if you reference the web link #2 that I posted in my original thread.

Im still trying to wrap my head around all of the technical data but its pretty interesting.

It seems like some manufactures like KAC and Noveske have done a little more homework than just poking holes into typically places in a barrel.

When you look at the technical data the intermediate gas system actually starts to make more sense.

Too bad its not a standard option... There is also an intermediate gas system that can be had for the 16" barrel which is a medium between the middy and rifle length systems... Similar to the 14.5" middy in terms of performance.

If a 14.5" is supposed to running a carbine gas system, but the midlength works well and had its perks.

The 16" is supposed to be running a midlength gas system, but the rifle length is too long, the intermediate then comes into play.

I'm still learning here, I could be wrong, but I'm just trying to regurgitate what I think I just learned.

Yup, KAC and Noveske use it on their rifles. KAC SR-15 for life!

Cool idea but if for any odd reason you need extra replacement intermediate gas tube, where do you get them?

From what I've read thus far in those links, it seems like you are getting it from one of three mfrs, though it also appears that KAC's tube is a bit different than the other two. Doesn't seem to be a standardized thing yet?
