I got a used Marlin 336Y.

Like so many (almost all?) modern Marlin rifles, the barrel is not perfectly aligned with the top of the receiver, so the scope base needs some significant shimming to align the scope base with the barrel.

Currently I have a half-a#@)(8 shim job I did with strips of coke can, but I'd much rather have a set of real shims.

Marlin makes a shim set, but although its only $5, they want another $6 for shipping! (For something that could be slipped into a padded, first-class envelope for <$1).

Does anyone know a good place to get a set of shims either:

a) In person in the east/north Bay Area (Anywhere between Berkeley and Vacaville)

b) Online where they won't gouge on shipping?

Go look in the Enco catalog, they have brass shim stock. They have free shipping with $25 order most of the time. If you start looking at the book, it's not hard to get to $25, they have a lot of stuff in there.

Best thing I have found is spark plug feeler gauges.
