Just got my DPMS Sweet 16 back from Tom over at Firepower Depot. He did a duracoat job on it.
The free float tube was all scratched up so I decided it was time to rehab it.

Tom redid the entire rifle. The upper and lower he did in Woodland Tan and everything that is black he did in Tactical Black. It is awesome. I love how he did the A3 rail black on the upper.

how does Duracoat stand up to everyday abuse? ( dropping it on the living room floor, rubbing against carper etc )

So far everything I have had duracoated is still perfect. The longer you let it "cure" the better it withstands a beating. I put it in the safe and won't touch it for 2 weeks now.

I'm not sure what the difference in doing it all the same color and use black furniture, and what I did is? I wanted the upper and lower receiver tan, all the parts (lpk) black and my furniture is black. The A3 rail being black turned out awesome. Please elaborate.

It's a UTG grip. I love it.

No buffer just barrel

I debated painting the barrel but I think it will be too much. I think it looks cool as is.

A well done finish, but I too am unsure about two-tone rifles. It's probably just a geographics thing, or just a simple matter of taste.

"Shhh.... Abramov. Its difficult to see him in this low light, but I think if you aim at that brighter spot, you might get him Kamerad."

Just kidding. :D

This is my varmint gun and I'm going to use it in 3 gun matches so I wanted it a little different that the rest. It's shoot awesome.
Mukak, tha'ts why I took it to Tom in the first place. It was all scratched up from sitting it in the dirt while hunting.

Wow, I really just don't know how to reply to that.

I think he means it lacks a laser, flashlight, red dot, magnifier, vertical fore grip, hand stops, rail covers, BUIS, BAD lever, UBBT, sling attachments, custom dust cover, oversized CH, muzzle brake, bayonet and kegerator:p

Nah, more like showing off your perfectly restored '69 Camaro.... with the left fender painted a different color.

What part is unfinished in your eyes?

Do you have anything constructive to say about the rifle? Or are you stuck in snide mode?

He posted to show it off and get our opinions. You seem to not like mine. Tough.

The only color he put on, is the tan on the receiver...whoopie. Again, like a classic car with one fender a different color. It looks unfinished. It looks like he did not put great thought into the paint scheme. It looks like he took various pieces of rifle and pieced it together. There is no "flow" or effort here, just a painted receiver on a otherwise standard black rifle.

Paint the entire thing, or detail many more attached parts. The whole thing seems "lazy" to me.

My opinion, you don't have to like it.

The black rail on top of the tan is a nice detail.

So, ARMY, by your logic, if you put FDE furniture on a black rifle, it's unfinished? I was going for the opposite look. And BTW, I wasn't actually asking for your opinion. I couldn't give a rat patooty what you think to be honest.
Everyone else, thanks for your nice words.

Oh and BlackJack, thanks, I love the black rail. It really does make a big difference visually.

Nice rifle!

How did you decide on a Duracoat vs a Cerakote finish? I'm curious because I want to do my next AR in a different finish

socalbowhunter

Thanks bro. I like the tactical black. Duracoat says it has zero reflective qualities.

If you filled in the stag and the selector marking to be tactical black it would pop alot better and really bring the FDE paint scheme to the next level.

It looks good, but the reciever looks unfinished, you could even just fill the markings in with paint or black crayon and I guarantee it would be a game changer

I am waiting for the tan to cure for another few days and then I am going to add black to all the engraving on the lower. I'm just going to use crayon. I've done it on a few other guns and I like the look of it.
